PAGE SIX Kerry Mourns Victims Of Fishing Tragedy
Valentia Lifeboat and members of the Irish Coast Guard search for the boat in which three fishermen lost their lives at Coonanna Harbour. Pic: Don MacMonagle.
The people of Kerry were in a state of shock this past week following a tragic fishing accident which claimed the lives of three men. The bodies of Jurjis Burcves, Anatolijs Teivens and Valerijs Klimentjevs were retrieved from the sea near Coonan-
na Harbour in Cahersiveen at around 7.30pm on Sunday. It is believed that they had set off from the harbour at 8.20am that morning. The trio, who were all Latvian nationals, kept a boat at Coonanna and fished on a weekly basis.
It is not yet known how the men came into difficulty but investigators believe a freak wave may have caused the small vessel to capsize. All three were wearing a lifejacket. Jurjis Burcves (30), who was married, had resided in Killarney for a number
of years and was an employee at KWD Recycling. A service was held for him at O’Shea’s Funeral Home on Wednesday night and his body was repatriated to Latvia yesterday. Anatolijs Teivens (57), a married father-of-three, also lived in Killarney. His remains are being cremated in Killarney today before being taken back to his native Latvia. The third man, Valerijs Klimentjevs (38), moved to Tralee with his wife, Inga, five years ago. They have a twoyear-old son named Daniel. In a statement, the Mayor of Kerry extended the sympathy of the people of the county to the men’s families. “The people of Kerry are shocked and saddened at this appalling tragedy,” Cllr Norma Foley said. “I want to express my condolences to the men’s families at this very sad time. There is a small but valued Latvian community in Kerry and our thoughts and prayers are with the Latvian community and the men’s friends and neighbours at this time. “I have no doubt that the people of south Kerry and beyond will do everything they can to support the bereaved through this difficult period.”
Housing
New Airbnb Laws Could Help Solve
Rent Crisis New regulations designed to address the housing issues being caused by short-term rental platforms like Airbnb are to be published in the coming week. It is believed that the new laws could see around 1,000 homes returning to the market. It is widely expected the Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy will follow the Toronto model of regulating short-term lets. Toronto city introduced new laws which ensure a person can only rent their home as a short-term let if it is their principal residence, banning the renting of “secondary suites”. This means that people who own a second property (what some call an investment property) will not be able to rent it out. The maximum rental period is for a maximum of 180-days. The rules in Toronto also stipulate that short-term rental companies and home-owners
must obtain a licence and register with the city council.
The new regulations are likely to only impact properties in Dublin at first, but Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said during the week the they will involve “restricting the use of apartments and homes in rent pressure zones for short-term lettings like Airbnb”. He said it will still be possible for people to rent out a room in their own home on a short-term basis, “but you couldn’t be using an apartment or house that you own for long-term Airbnb… and those apartments should be released into the market for people to let them to people who live in Ireland rather than people who are visiting”. Murphy said the government “cannot wait any longer” on regulations, with his own department pushing out the publication of the new rules a number of times in the last couple of weeks. The effects of the rental crisis have been
felt quite strongly in Killarney where it is currently extremely difficult to find long-term rented accommodation. As reported in the Killarney Advertiser, there are over 300 Killarney properties listed on Aribnb. Meanwhile, there are just 13 homes available for long-term rent on daft.ie. The issue is obviously affecting residents and would-be residents, but it is also proving to be a major obstacle for local businesses. Many employers are struggling to attract employees to Killarney as it is virtually impossible to find appropriate accommodation to house them. The new regulations seem to be a step in the right direction and will be music to the ears of frustrated local businesspeople and residents, who are currently at their wits end with the situation.

A stunning new exhibition aimed at educating visitors on every aspect of the town and its world-famous park has been officially unveiled at the iconic Killarney House. The new interpretative centre, Gateway to Killarney National Park, is a must-see for locals and tourists alike and offers a wonderfully immersive insight into all things Killarney. The history, the great people who lived here and our park’s unique eco-system, it’s all covered in this spectacular, high tech attraction, which is located on the upper floor of the house. Trust us: it really has to be seen to be believed. The official opening was attended by a number of notable guests, including cousins of John and Mary McShain and the Viscount de Vesci, Tom DeVessey,

Many years ago, my parents chose to spend the remainder of their lives here in this town enchanted by the natural beaut of Ireland, and the delightful spirit and humour of its people. “My father, John McShain, a dedicated and often overworked contractor, came to Killarney to relax and fins solace among the mountains and lakes. This haven, however, became more than a break from his busy life. The people of Killarney opened their doors to my parents, and they soon found a home filled with friends and family thousands of miles from America. “I wish I could be there today to see the transformation of our family home, but we are all there in spirit.”
who is a nephew of the last Earls of Kenmare. Speaking at the ceremony, General Manager of Killarney House and Gardens Pat Dawson paid tribute to the work of former Park Superintendent Dan Kelleher. “Dan was able to reassure the McShains that the State would take care of the property that they wanted to be in public ownership – including Ross Castle, Innisfallen Island, the lakes and this property here at Killarney House and Gardens,” Mr Dawson said. “Without Dan’s professional and reassuring advice to the McShains, who knows what might have transpired and we might all be on the outside of the Golden Gates looking in instead of being here to enjoy and appreciate the gift that the McShains have given us.”

He also thanked former minister Jimmy Deenihan for the role he played in redeveloping the previously disused Killarney House. “At a difficult time for our country, (Jimmy Deenihan) ring-fenced the necessary funding, with the support of the then Minister for Tourism and now our Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, to allow for the commencement and completion of a €10million restoration and refurbishment programme at Killarney House and Gardens.” Sr Pauline McShain, John and Mary McShain’s only child, was unable to attend but she passed on a message from her home in the USA. “With much joy and deep appreciation, I am writing this today to celebrate the long-awaited opening of Killarney

TOWNTALK Locals Revisit Abandoned
Coltsmann’s Castle
Roaming Deer Cause Two Separate Accidents
Roaming deer caused two road traffic accidents in Killarney this past week with the motorists involved in both incidents fortunate not to sustain significant injuries. The first collision happened last Saturday morning when a woman from Beaufort hit a deer on her way to work in Killarney. The incident occurred near Liebherr in Fossa. The driver was uninjured but shaken by the accident. Another similar collision took place on the Cork Road near Minish early Monday morning. The deer was killed in the accident but thankfully the motorist avoided injury. News of the accidents comes just a week after a significant cull of red deer was announced in Killarney National Park. The Department of Culture and Heritage has confirmed that 120 deer have been culled since the start of the year. The shootings were carried out by National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) staff.

It has been abandoned and off-limits since the 1940s but locals recently got a rare opportunity to see the inside the walls of Coltsmann’s Castle. The doors of the famous but mysterious landmark were thrown open last week as part of the inaugural Architecture Kerry Weekend and visitors were treated to an insightful tour of the protected structure. The O’Reilly family purchased the property in 2005 and significant works have already been carried out on the site. Organisers of the tour also revealed that plans are in place to completely renovate the building, which is located near Mill Road and is also
known locally as Flesk Castle. Architect Karol O’Mahony, historian John Knightly and Victoria McCarthy Conservation Officer Kerry County Council welcomed visitors to the recorded monument last weekend. “Some locals are now hugely surprised that it still exists,” Karol O’Mahony said, “and more surprised that someone plans to renovate it, with the general consensus being, ‘Not in my lifetime!’” Redevelopment is well underway, however, and O’Mahony has prepared an outline design and feasibility studies for renovation of the building as a family home.
The focus of the inaugural Architecture Kerry Festival was the county’s architectural heritage and the event, which will showcase and celebrate the best of the county’s architectural heritage, will take place from 28 to 30 September, and will feature talks, free guided tours, exhibitions, workshops and family events. The aim of the new festival, which is part of the Creative Ireland Programme, is to highlight the wide diversity of the architectural landscape in Kerry and to make some of the best-known sites of architectural significance in the county accessible to all ages.

Foot Producers at Market Square is back!
A prominent South Kerry councillor has thrown his weight behind the ambitious greenway project planned for the region, calling it the county’s “single biggest and most important tourism project ever”. Independent Cllr Michael Cahill, who hails from Glenbeigh, also backed the council’s controversial decision to use CPO’s to acquire the land necessary to complete the development as it was “the only way of getting this massive project over the line”. “I’m confident that all landowners will be adequately compensated for their lands and will get approval for any accommodation works that they request during the CPO process,” Cllr Cahill said. “The Cahersiveen/Iveragh region is an area that has suffered severely to the hands of emigration and is subject to continuous population decline. It is fair to say that Cahersiveen town is on its
knees with many closed up businesses, a trend that seems to be continuing based on recent closures. Cahersiveen and Iveragh require immediate help “I believe the South Kerry Greenway, when developed, will have the capability to halt and reverse these trends. I believe this is a lifeline for this area as it is extremely difficult to envisage any large company/factory setting up in the region. This multi-million euro project will also benefit the Glenbeigh, Killorglin, Mid Kerry and South Kerry region. In fact, I believe it will benefit the entire county for generations to come.” The 32km greenway will run between Glenbeigh and Renard. The development is expected to prove a major boost for tourism in the Iveragh Peninsula, which would naturally have positive knock-on effects for the town of Killarney.

Columnist Anne Lucey gives her take on happenings in Killarney, Kerry and beyond
The State Of Our Courts I was in Killarney District Court on Tuesday of last week, and in Tralee DC on Wednesday. They are horrible filthy depressing places and I don’t like being there. To start with, if there were any real respect for people, men or women, there would be nice consultation rooms, and the courts would be nice, comfortable buildings where the public can come to look and understand, as well as be dealt with. Killarney DC does not even have a toilet for the public and only about two of the seats in the press area can be sat upon. More women are in the body of the
Killarney DC does not even have a toilet for the public and only about two of the seats in the press area can be sat upon.
courts in Kerry. There has always been a female presence at this level, supporting sons and husbands. But increasingly women themselves are on the lists, up for things like shop theft and drunken fights and drink driving and speeding summonses. But I had a look around Killarney on Tuesday at the main actors in the drama to see if it reflected the female side of society and the growing female clientele.
Well, it does not, is the answer. The judge was a man. All nine solicitors on the legal benches that morning were men. Eight of the nine gardaí were male. The uniformed officials in the speed vans giving evidence in the prosecution of motorists, whether women or men, were all men. Only what might be called the secretariat – the lone court clerk - as well as the Polish interpreter, were female. Next day in Tralee, it was little better. In other words the majority of the players in our own lower courts, in our own justice system locally, let alone the highest courts in the US are still overwhelmingly male and it is still the same system no matter how vocal the ‘me too’ and the women’s movement may be. Women have different approaches – providing they do not have to operate in a male world - but their approach is not being reflected. The problem with the court of public opinion and public affirmation is it has no real power. The revelations, if that is what they are, may be dismissed too easily. They may well be true, they may well shock and be debated and mulled over, but that does not mean they will influence or affect real change, which is in the hands of a few like-minded people. Public representatives, who are also mostly male, by the way, far from rocking that power-encrusted boat, steady it. Look at what happened to Alan Shatter who sought to bring change in the legal system! Whether political or judicial or administrative, or medical, the bodies with the real power have become power-encrusted, layered with protective laws and each has its own jargon, and over the years they seem to care less and
they listen less to the court of public opinion. In fact, I have increasingly found that freedom of speech is largely scoffed at and dismissed because, of course, it need not be listened to! Women who are the most vocal in the
court of public opinion are not being reflected, there is no doubt. But you know what, in the real courts, 21st century Joe Soap is not being reflected either. And I have a feeling that a lot of men are on the same side as the women, have the same experiences of the health and other systems, but they are just not talking about it. I watch both young men and wome trying to represent themselves to save on solicitors fees for simple things like speed offences. It is a waste of time. They may or may not get a polite hearing. But nine out of ten times, these young people are made to feel at sea. The jargon is impossible for them to understand, as is the formality of the system on a simple summons! It is past time for an overhaul of the whole thing.
I do think now we are at a crossroads in the western world. Even placid Ireland is taking to the streets ten years after the crash and they are doing so because sensible, practical solutions are not being arrived at in housing or in health when the solutions are staring you in the face. The court of public opinion, which is often a very sensible court, needs not just to be heard, but taken seriously once more. Perhaps we need an altogether new forum, along the lines of the Citizens Assembly, and a political class willing to take on board the views of the people who elected them and set up structures and get the civil service and local authorities and judicial systems to affect those views. You see there is still this “paternalistic” attitude to the public – they are looked upon as the mob to be spoken down to and manipulated - when in fact most people are sensible but too afraid, too outside the loop, and perhaps too busy to speak out. There is a huge political lesson to be learned from the result of the repeal of the Eighth Amendment in this county where only one of the five TDs anticipated or reflected the will of the silent majority, male and female. Meanwhile, and on that note, the suggestion by Cllr Michael O’Shea to bring back a public Kerry County Health Forum, for health managers to answer locally, as in the days when the county council ran St Catherine’s and other hospitals, to the mayors is an excellent one. . “The forums are not working and they have failed people,” the councillor said of the current (health) structures. Amen to that!
vocal, do women get justice? Does aggressive predator behaviour change? Are women even properly reflected in the adversarial justice system abroad or here? Are they even properly catered for in this adversarial, largely
male, world of entitlement? We’ve had the Belfast rape trial 32 years after we had the Kerry babies inquisition, and has anything really changed? Attacking and scoring points is still the way, it seems.
In fact, I have increasingly found that freedom of speech is largely scoffed at and dismissed because, of course, it need not be listened to!
Women Are Being More Vocal, But Do Women Get Justice? Meanwhile, the dominance of Irish white Catholic men in Trump’s inner circles and now in the highest courts in the US is getting an airing in the press, there and here. Brett Kavanaugh (I wonder if he has links to west Kerry or Tyrone) played Gaelic football when he was young. He is set to replace a judge called Anthony Kennedy, also a west Kerry name. It all seems so close to home. His nomination by President Donald Trump would be something to be celebrated and we would all be clamouring his Irish origins - were it not for the court of public opinion. But the court of public opinion is coming more and more into focus. This is because women are more vocal now,
they have found their voice and their voice is being aired. Whether it makes any real difference is yet to be seen, though. And whether the drunken (alleged) antics of Brett the brash, well-heeled, teenage college student should deprive Brett the mature judge of the highest office, is another matter and one on which the jury may well be out. And I have some reservations about it myself. But in a week in which three fresher female students were raped in UCC, and two of them have given up their college place and gone home, the airing of the allegation about brash Brett the younger cornering a female student has a curious Irish resonance. The question is, while women are more

SmallTalk with Colm Adam Moynihan talks to Dr Crokes and Kerry legend Colm Cooper, the man considered by many to be the greatest Gaelic footballer of all time Well Colm. Thanks for talking to me. No hassle.
This conversation isn’t coming at a great time for me considering what happened on Sunday… Everything went wrong for Legion, but what went right for Crokes? Ah look, that’s sport. You have days where things work for you and days where they don’t. For us, so much went right and it went the opposite way for Legion. I think our intensity was much better the last day. We tackled really well and our work rate in general was much better than it has been in the past few weeks. That made all the difference. When you have some of the talented guys we have up front, they have the ability to put teams to the sword and that’s just how it turned on Sunday. Everything we touched turned to gold. It was just one of those days.
Tony Brosnan is turning a lot of heads with his performances of late. Some people are even saying that he might start for Kerry next year. Do you think he has the tools to make it at the next level?
It’s hard to argue with his form at the moment. To be fair to him, he was excellent for us all year. He broke his hand during the summer which set him back a small little bit but he has come back really strong again. His form has been excellent. He’s a real scoring forward. In the current game, many teams look for hard-working forwards but Tony - while he is hard-working - is a scorer first and foremost. That’s what I like about him. I suppose I would’ve felt that I was that type of player as well, particularly when I was Tony’s age. So yeah, he has been really good for us and I just hope he can continue his form. He’s gone to a new level for us this year, which is great.
Crokes will face Rahilly’s in the county semi-final next weekend. Do you feel like you owe them one after what happened a few weeks back?
You could look at it that way but, at the end of the day, it’s a county semi-final and we’ll be going out to beat them. I wouldn’t worry too much about the revenge factor. The prize for us is to get back into a county final and that has been the aim all year. However we do it and whoever we beat, we don’t really mind. We were disappointed with how the match finished against them the last time but to say it’s a “revenge mission”… I wouldn’t go that far. They’re a good team. We’ve played against these guys in quarter-finals and semi-finals - they’re always knocking around so they have a lot of experience built up. We played them in the Club Championship earlier in the year and it was a really close match so they don’t fear Crokes, that’s for sure. We’ll have to be at our best and playing in Tralee is a boost for them. Hopefully we’ll be ready. I don’t think we’re carrying any injuries from the Legion game, which is important.
Let’s talk about work. You were recently appointed Assistant Manager at AIB here in Killarney. I believe you were in Dublin for a couple of years prior to that. Are you happy to be back in your hometown?
It’s great. I started here back in 2005 so it has kind of gone full circle. I’ve been here, I’ve been in Tralee and
different parts of Kerry and I also had a stint in Dublin. To get back to Killarney and East Kerry, and to be dealing with a lot of people I know from Killarney and the surrounding areas, is great. Everybody has financial needs, whether it’s mortgages or whatever, so it’s a busy branch. But we have a good team of people here and it’s fun.
And the punditry seems to be going well with RTÉ. Are you enjoying it?
I am. I probably enjoyed this year more. The first year was difficult because I was still close to the Kerry lads and I probably had the Kerry hat on a little bit. But I felt that this year I was a bit more detached. I was really retired and gone from the set-up, which allows you to be more honest and more frank - particularly about Kerry because people naturally have an interest in how I feel Kerry are going. People maybe feel as though I have an inside track, which isn’t the case. I think GAA people by and large are very educated people and if you’re not telling the truth, they’ll see right through you. The way I’ve approached it in studio is that you’re having a conversation with guys who know the GAA backwards, and that’s the way to treat it. The beauty of it is we don’t always agree, but it has been good. I’ve enjoyed it. Is it going to be a long-term thing? I don’t know. But I certainly enjoyed it this year.
You touched on it there, and it’s something I’ve had to deal with myself, speaking about your own club or your own county. Do you find that difficult? Do you think there are expectations on you to “look after your own”, so to speak?
Yeah, like I said, I found it more difficult last year because I retired in April and I was on the television in May, and I was writing for the Examiner as well. What I found out very quickly is that if you’re not being honest, you won’t be writing the best articles. Chatting to guys who had done it before me, I learned I had to be myself, be honest and be frank. People might not always like what you write but the way I played throughout my career, I always set high standards. I was critical of myself when I didn’t meet them and I asked a lot of my teammates as well. You’d be hopeful, particularly in Kerry with the standards the county has set for such a long time, that they meet the high standards. And when they don’t, you have to call it out. I think if players and people around are fair about it, they understand that as well.
I have a few quick questions about your teammates. A nice easy one to start with: who’s the best player you’ve ever played with?
Ah Jesus… A nice easy one is right. You could toss a coin between Séamus Moynihan and Darragh Ó Sé. I learned from those guys what it meant to play for Kerry, the responsibility that it brought and what winning is all about. I enjoyed playing with those two guys and I learned more from them than anyone else in my career.
Who’s the best athlete you’ve ever played with?
We had a lot of them. Thinking back to my early days with Kerry we had Seán O’Sullivan, Eoin Brosnan,
Donnchadh Walsh was like a marathon runner, Darran had the speed, Tomás Ó Sé was just up and down the field all day… I would probably say Seán and Eoin. They were just specimens. They were well-built, strong, they could cover ground and they could score.
Which of your teammates, past or present, would you least like to get stuck in a lift with?
Galvin. God only knows where that conversation would go!
Who has the worst dress sense?
Well Paul is obviously a bit out there but I’ll say Kieran O’Leary.
Who spends the most time in the gym? Darran O’Sullivan.
Really, yeah?
Yeah. Every time I talk to him it’s, “I’m just out of the gym” or “I’m on my way to the gym”. I don’t know what he’s doing in there - I don’t know is he just looking in the mirror or what. But he is in good shape in fairness.
This is a tricky one. Who’s the best at Tinder?
Oh… I don’t even know who’s on Tinder. Maybe some of the young Crokes lads in college?
A lot of the Crokes boys have girlfriends I suppose…
Yeah. We better be careful with this question! Probably some of the younger lads but I don’t know. Maybe that tells its own story. I’m so far removed from the younger generation that I don’t even know who’s on it!
Who was your toughest ever opponent?
I’d have to name a few. Marc Ó Sé in club matches, Ryan McMenamin from Tyrone – we had big battles – and Philly McMahon in more recent years with the Dubs. Anthony Lynch in my earlier days with Kerry as well. He was a fella I found it hard against. But Marc was probably as tough a draw as any of them. If I was going well in training against Marc, I knew I was ready for big games in Croke Park. That was always a fairly accurate assessment.
What’s your proudest sporting memory?
There are two that stand out. My first All-Ireland med-

al with Kerry in ’04 when we beat Mayo is one. I got Man of the Match and when you win your first one, you never forget it. Well, I don’t know do you remember the partying or do you forget it, but we had a good few weeks after that! The Crokes as well on Paddy’s Day in Croke Park. I had been very open about the fact that I wanted to win the All-Ireland Club and it took around 20 years to do it, so there was a lot of satisfaction in that one. The odd time at home you walk past the photos and you take another look and I probably showed more emotion that evening than I did for any of the other big ones.
right in your headspace.
Is there an app on your phone you couldn’t live without? I think I could live without Twitter but it’s where I get my news now. WhatsApp as well. That’s where we have our group chat with Crokes and to be honest you get more news there than anywhere else.
What’s your most-used emoji?
And the most embarrassing?
Just the usual ones. Shorts falling down and walking around in my underpants, and missing 14-yard frees.
What are your favourite sports outside of the GAA?
I play golf and I enjoy it, although I’m not playing as much as I thought I would be. I’m a member in Killarney so I’ve no excuse. I watch soccer as well and I’m a big Liverpool fan, and I watch a lot of horse racing too.
Have you been to see the Lakers yet this season?
No, I haven’t, but it’s on my to-do list. I think that could be the winter routine now, to get to the Lakers matches on Saturday nights. There’s a great buzz above there. Is Botty on the microphone?
He was for the first game, yeah.
That’s a reason that I maybe wouldn’t go, because Botty would take the p*** out of me!
He would. He went straight for Cliffy the last day.
Yeah. I’ll have to find out if Botty is doing the match before I go.
Do you have any superstitions?
Just stupid ones that don’t make sense. I put my left sock on first because I’m left-footed.
Same, actually.
I just do it naturally now. I see some guys doing extraordinary things. They’d be walking around in circles in the dressing room. Do you know what? The reason footballers are superstitious is because when you’re preparing for a big match, you become nervous. You go to a default setting and it’s whatever relaxes you and gives you confidence, so that you’re
Your man swinging a golf club, to see if I can get any few soldiers to go golfing at the weekend.
What’s the last show you binge-watched? Are you a Netflix person?
I go through phases. I love Suits and I was big into Narcos. If I had a few hours spare I could definitely do a Sunday evening binge on those. Particularly when you’re playing football at this time of the year, we don’t be out that much so there’s plenty of time for Netflix. That’s my guilty pleasure.
Who’s your favourite band/artist?
I listen to anyone, really. I like Coldplay.
What about karaoke? What would you sing? I’m a good man to join in at karaoke but not when I’m taking the lead role!
And last one… Can you tell me a joke?
What did the left eye say to the right eye?
I don’t know.
Between you and me, something smells.
Good one, Gooch!

“I Don’t Just Look At Where The Pain Is, I Look At Where The Pain Is Coming From” Killarney native Gary Moynihan first developed an interest in therapy when recovering from his own sports injuries and now he couldn’t see himself doing anything else. “I love what I’m doing now,” he says. “I’m helping people and there’s great satisfaction in it.” Gary, who holds a National Qualification in Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) from the National Training Centre, specialises in the treatment of soft
tissue injuries, chronic pain and injury. But what exactly is NMT, and how does it differ from standard injury treatment? “NMT incorporates techniques like muscle energy technique, deep tissue massage, positional release and soft tissue release to treat a range of injuries, conditions and chronic pain,” Gary explains. “Basically what I do is deal with more chronic issues. For example, if you have trigger points or
muscle imbalances, I won’t just look at where the pain is, I’ll look at where the pain is coming from. I want to find where the problem originates and then try to solve it.” “My clients can also avail of trigger point dry needling, electro-dry needling and lymphatic drainage.” Gary’s budding business, which is based in Minish, is just a couple of weeks old but already the feedback has been extremely positive.
If you have trigger points, shoulder pain, back pain, knee pain, nerve entrapment, postural imbalances, sciatica, headaches, tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome, Gary can help. For more information or to book an appointment today, call Gary on 087 653 3531. Facebook: @garymoynihannmt Instagram: @garymoynihannmt LinkedIn: Gary Moynihan Neuromuscular Therapy

Launching the Triple Threat Basketball Camp were Rian Weldon, Tania Salvado and Ava Weldon with camp director James Weldon, Josh O’Sullivan and Seán O’Brien (Scotts Lakers). Pic: Eamonn Keogh.
Several high profile basketball coaches will be sharing their knowledge and skills at a Halloween basketball camp that will take place at Killarney Sports Centre from Tuesday, October 30 to Thursday, November 1. The annual Triple Threat Basketball Camp is the brainchild of well-known Killarney basketball coach James Weldon and it presents a great opportunity for budding young basketballers to work with and learn from some top coaches. The three-day Halloween camp is open to boys and girls from age 6 to 17. It will be divided into two sections. The junior camp is for 6 to 11-year-olds and runs from 10am to 1pm on each of the three days. The senior camp is for 12 to 17-year-olds and will run from 2pm to 5pm each day. The young players in attendance will be learning from some of the best Irish and international coaches. James Weldon is joined by Irish U-18 Women’s Head Coach Tommy O’Mahony, Irish internationals Claire Rockall and Louise Galvin, Scotts Lakers’ star player Seán O’Brien and Rathmore’s Jim Hughes, while Portugal senior national team Head Coach Ricardo Vasconcelos is an exciting addition to the camp this year. James Weldon is a FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) approved basketball coach and one of Europe’s most qualified youth coaches. He is a former Super League player with St Paul’s Killarney and coached the St Paul’s ladies team through an impressive stint in the top flight, before going on to enjoy incredible success with the all-conquering UL Huskies Super League and National Cup-winning team. He coached UL to 10 national titles in four seasons and was honoured with the Irish Basketball Coach of the Year award on three different occasions. His talents have also been recognised with his appointment as Head Coach of a number of Irish teams. These coaches will guide all participants through some challenging and very beneficial skills sessions. Young players will learn new skills and drills and gain huge insight into the fundamentals of basketball that will help them improve their overall game. Triple Threat is a basketball term where a player is in position to pass, dribble and shoot on offense. The Triple Threat Basketball Camp will have daily stations covering all the passing, shooting, dribbling and rebounding skills. Participants will also enjoy 3 versus 3 games and 5 versus 5 games and an NBA skills challenge. A novel attraction at the camp will be the use of the latest basketball technology, including the Blast App and the 94Fifty Smart Sensor Basketball. This is a regulation basketball with sensors inside. The sensors make use of point-of-force technology to record data about your shot and your dribble and then provide data which can be instantly analysed and provide feedback in real time. Participants will enjoy the magnificent facilities at Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre, which boasts two full size indoor basketball courts. The wonderful indoor playing arena is sure to guarantee an enjoyable experience no matter what the weather is like outside. Places at the camp are limited and have already been filling up very quickly in recent weeks. Further information about registration is available by emailing weldonjames7@hotmail.com, checking out the Triple Threat Basketball Facebook page or calling or texting 087 2907455.

HOME INSURANCE – ADEQUATE COVER The majority of us hold Home Insurance in the event of something occurring to our family homes. However, regularly we do not consider what exactly is covered by our Home Policy and what could potentially occur in the event of a claim having to be made. Most Financial Institutions will require the property to be insured before loans are facilitated on foot of security of property. This usually requires a basic Insurance Policy to be taken out on a property. Home Insurance will cover the building structure in the event of loss or damage being caused or occasioned such as fire damage, water damage etc. It is very important to check the individual terms and conditions of each individual Policy to find out what exactly is covered under the terms of every individual Policy. Furthermore, contents home may be covered.
of
a
Both parts of the Policy will be up to a certain value and the Premium is usually determined having regard to this. Regularly however Insurance
Companies have deemed properties to be under valued. In the event that this occurs, then an Insurance Company will deduct a percentage from any claim made in accordance with the undervaluation which occurred at the time of taking out the Premium. It is therefore very important to regularly check what exactly is covered and to what value and to check does this cover the purchase of new contents in the event of losses occurring and it is important to regularly revise and review terms of Policy from time to time to ensure that a home-owner has adequate cover in place. Advice should be sought if necessary at the time of taking out of a Policy or renewal of same to ensure that adequate cover is in place. What Does Budget 2019 Have In Store For Your Business?
Marcus Treacy, Director of OCKT Ltd.
OCKT Ltd, a leading Kerry Chartered Accountancy firm, will hold a Budget Briefing at 1pm on Wednesday, October 10 at The Great Southern Hotel, Killarney to examine the implications of the budget for businesses in Kerry. In conjunction with Killarney Chamber of Commerce, OCKT Ltd is hosting the briefing to share its thinking on the key developments from Budget 2019 with clients and members of the Kerry business community. The briefing will explain the salient points from the Budget in direct relation to businesses, as opposed to individuals, and will outline tax planning initiatives that can be taken prior to December 31, so businesses are primed to tackle the budgetary changes as they are introduced. Speaking at the briefing will be Director of OCKT Ltd, Marcus Treacy, who specialises in corporate finance
and corporate recovery. “This briefing will be a good opportunity for businesses to stay ahead of the budgetary measures, no matter what the outcome on October 9,” he said. “We are holding this forum to discuss the implications for businesses specifically, as historically media coverage comprehensively documents implications for individuals and not always those for SMEs themselves. “We are anticipating changes to various reliefs in capital taxes which could have an impact on businesses, so we are keen to analyse the Budget for attendees of the event and to explain practical measures they can take to protect their businesses, their employees and their livelihoods.” The event is open to all business owners and employees and bookings can be made by emailing info@ockt.ie or phoning on 064 66 33444.

Over 2,000 People To Descend On Killarney For Quest This Saturday (October 6), Quest Killarney will take place, starting and finishing at the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney. More than 2,000 participants will take part in the event, which is in its seventh year, traversing hills, pathways and the lakes of Killarney. An event expo will take place today (Friday) from 5 to 9pm, with stalls, samples and talks taking place. Oliver Kirwan, Director, said: “We are delighted to end the Quest Series for the year in Killarney. It’s our biggest and best event and we’re very excited to be able to welcome more than 2,000 adventure racers to town. It’s a great event for Killarney as many of the participants bring friends and family that support local businesses throughout the weekend. “We couldn’t carry off the event without the support of our local stakeholders, residents, the gardaí and the National Parks. I’d like to thank them all for their ongoing support. The whole team at Quest is looking forward to welcoming all those taking part and we want to wish them the best of luck. Enjoy the day and the craic at the after-party!” Road users are asked to be aware of large groups of cyclists travelling between the Gleneagle Hotel and the Gap of Dunloe from 7.30am to 11am. Please note the Muckross and Dinis Trail will be closed from 11am to 1.30pm and Lord Brandon’s Cottage to N71 on the Kerry Way track will be closed from 8am to 1pm. Dates for all the Quest events in 2019 have been released with most going on sale on Saturday, October 6 for those who want to start planning their year ahead. Dates for 2019 are: Quest Kenmare – March 2 Quest Glendalough – April 6 Quest Wales – June 8 (already open for registration) Quest 12/24 - August 31 (to open for registration in late October) Quest Achill - September 14 (TBC) Quest Killarney - October 12 “We’ve had a really great year in 2018 with two new events getting off the ground and proving both popular and very enjoyable events,” Oliver added. “Quest Kenmare is coming back with some new routes and Quest 12/24 returns next summer too. Despite being quite a niche, tough event, the feedback we’ve had is so positive we’ll certainly be bringing another cohort of endurance athletes to Sneem in August. “Our other long-standing events are coming back too - Killarney October is staying in place and we’ll be bringing back Achill and Glendalough too - really different, but also really exciting and popular events. We’re really looking forward to 2019. We’re working on other new events too so it’s shaping up to be a great year.” For more information contact at kelly@eliteevents.ie or 087 2026679. Osaka cuts ties with San Fran over WWII statue
Netflix eating up 15% of world’s data
Japan’s Osaka city has ended its “sister city” ties with San Francisco over the display of a statue depicting women forced to work as sex slaves for Japanese soldiers during World War Two. Osaka mayor Hirofumi Yoshimura said the “comfort women” monument “destroyed the two sides’ relationship of trust”. The work depicts three young women - from Korea, China and the Philippines - standing in a circle holding hands. It is estimated that some 200,000 women were kept in these military brothels. The statue on display in San Francisco, which was initially set up privately but officially accepted by the US city last November, is entitled the “Women’s Column of Strength”. It represents the women who worked in the
brothels at the time, including some who were reportedly lured with the offer of paid work as cooks or cleaners, according to a UN report. Mr Yoshimura’s decision to end Osaka’s sisterhood with the city, which dates back to 1957, was first announced in November, but the move was delayed following the death of San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee in December. Lee was later replaced by London Breed, the city’s first female black mayor. Mr Yoshimura set out the reasons for his decision in a 10-page letter to Ms Breed, saying that part of the “problem” was the monument’s inscription, which he said “presents uncertain and one-sided claims as historical facts”.
Trump Corner Is Trump Guilty Of “Outright Fraud”? New York state tax authorities are investigating after the New York Times reported that Donald Trump engaged in “dubious tax schemes during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud”, as he and his siblings took control of a real estate empire built by Fred C Trump, the president’s late father. “The tax department is reviewing the allegations in the NYT article and is vigorously pursuing all appropriate avenues of investigation,” the New York state taxation authority told the Washington Post. In a blockbuster investigative report built on interviews with the elder Trump’s former employees and more than 100,000 pages of documents including tens of thousands of pages of confidential records, the New York Times unfolds the story of how Trump “received the equivalent today of at least
Never fails to entertain
$413m from his father’s real estate empire, starting when he was a toddler and continuing to this day”. Little of the information had previously come to light. Its publication, which was subject to blanket denials by a lawyer for the president and by the White House but which was not refuted in detail, fundamentally alters the visible facts establishing the centerpoint of Trump’s identity: his wealth. However, Trump himself hit back on Wednesday morning with a bizarre tweet. “The Failing New York Times did something I have never seen done before. They used the concept of “time value of money” in doing a very old, boring and often told hit piece on me. Added up, this means that 97% of their stories on me are bad. Never recovered from bad election call!” he wrote. The investigation drew on Fred Trump’s tax documents but did not unearth the president’s personal tax filings, which Donald Trump has refused to disclose.
Video streaming service Netflix is the world’s most data-hungry application, consuming 15% of global net traffic, according to research from bandwidth management company Sandvine. Video in general accounts for more than half of net traffic, it suggests. Other media streaming such as embedded video on websites accounts for 13.1%, YouTube, 11.4% and web browsing, 7.8%. The report also found that gaming and file-sharing are becoming a significant force in traffic volume. Video accounts for 58% of the total volume of downstream traffic on the internet, followed by web browsing (17%), gaming (7.8%) and social media (5.1%), according to the
report. That is putting huge pressure on networks around the world and that pressure is likely to get worse, according to Sandvine’s Global Internet Phenomena Report. “The numbers for video are going to get higher as more and more content goes high definition and users turn more to 4K,” said vice-president of marketing Cam Cullen. During peak evening hours, when networks are under “the most stress”, Netflix can be accounting for 40% of all download traffic in the US, according to the report. However, the encoding technology used by the video streaming service makes it the most efficient video provider on the net.
Keane set for Kerry manager’s role
Peter Keane will be announced as the new Kerry senior football manager on Monday night. Several media outlets are reporting that the Kingdom’s minor manager will be confirmed as Eamonn Fitzmaurice’s successor after Monday’s meeting of the County Board. Maurice Fitzgerald, Donie Buckley and Tommy Griffin are expected to be named as his selectors. Kerry County Board Chairman Tim Murphy said, however, that there will be no announcement until after Monday. Keane (47) took over the minors from Jack O’Connor in 2016 and went on to win three All-Irelands on
the bounce. Fitzmaurice stepped away from the role in August, saying at the time that hoped the next manager would be afforded “time and space” to achieve success after what he called a “negative atmosphere” surrounding the players. “With a new man in charge, it will hopefully afford him a bit of time and space, a bit of patience within our own county to allow them to develop to their full potential,” he said. “I genuinely think they will benefit from a change of voice. A new scene and a new energy.”

Nike “deeply concerned” by Ronaldo rape allegations
Nike has told the Associated Press that it’s “deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations” facing soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo. The emailed statement Thursday from the media department for the US sportswear firm follows the filing of a lawsuit in Las Vegas by a woman who alleges that she was raped by Ronaldo in 2009. Ronaldo has denied “accusations being issued against” him and called rape an “abominable crime.” “I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me,” he tweeted Wednesday. In the email, Nike says, “we are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the
situation.” Nike has had a contract with Ronaldo, 33, one of the wealthiest and most famous soccer players in the world, since 2003. A Portuguese citizen, he went from Manchester United to Spain’s Real Madrid in 2009 for a then-record sum of €94 million. He now plays for the Italian club Juventus. The woman’s lawsuit, filed last week, seeks unspecified damages of at least $200,000. The suit alleges Ronaldo raped the woman when she was 24, in his penthouse suite at a Las Vegas hotel, and hired a team of what the document called “fixers” to shape a monetary settlement, obstruct a police criminal investigation and trick her into taking $375,000 to keep quiet.
Tralee Advertiser Apologises For Racist Joke The Tralee Advertiser was forced to issue an apology this week after publishing a racist “joke” about a “black Jewish boy”. The offensive joke, which was printed in the magazine’s ‘It’s Only a Joke’ section, was shared widely on social media my outraged readers, and was later condemned by the Director of Amnesty Ireland, Colm O’Gorman. The Tralee Advertiser subse-
quently apologised for the offending material, saying it had been published in error. “This joke was not intended to be included in our magazine as we deemed it to be of an offensive nature. We know that our ‘It’s Only a Joke’ page is read by both young and old and endeavour to ensure that content on this page will continue to do what a good joke does, which is to make us laugh, not be offensive.”
Higgins to return €200k balance Incumbent President Michael D Higgins has said he will return the balance in the Áras account at the end of his presidency. There has been recent scrutiny around the finances of the office of the President, particularly after it emerged that there is a €317,000 annual allowance which has no State oversight. “He said that he intends to return the balance in the account at the end of his first seven-year term,” a spokesperson for Higgins commented. “He estimated that the balance would be in the region of €200,000.” At the launch of his campaign last week, Higgins said he had no issues with transparency with regard to his expenses. He pointed out that the €317,000 fund had been in place since
1938 and said it was used for entertainment such as tea parties, events like Bloomsday and those commemorating the victims of the Magdalene Laundries. At the time he had also referenced the fact that Mary McAleese had returned about €450,000 at the end of her two terms as President. “It is a fund I never see, but I emphasise, it if voted for by the Oireachtas, it is within its gift to rescind it, but that would put a severe restriction on (Presidential) hospitality.” He was also asked last week about being accommodated in expensive hotels during foreign trips. “I couldn’t care less if I stay in a tent,” he told reporters.
Police shooting suspect is disabled veteran
A man suspected of shooting seven US police officers during a stand-off on Wednesday has been identified as a disabled military veteran. Frederick Hopkins is alleged to have killed one police officer and injured six more in Florence, South Carolina. The 74-yearold was injured during the Vietnam War and was also a disbarred lawyer, the Associated Press reports. He was arrested at the scene but is being treated for head injuries in hospital after reportedly falling. Police say the two-hour confrontation happened after police tried to serve a search warrant at Mr Hopkins’ home at about 4pm local time (8pm GMT). Florence County Chief Deputy Glenn Kirby said police were trying to investigate an accusation that a 27-year-old had sex-
ually assaulted a foster child in the house when the suspect opened fire at about 4.30pm. “Officers went there unknowing the firepower the suspect had,” Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone said at a news conference. “Fire was being shot all over. The way this suspect was positioned, his view of fire was several hundred yards. So he had an advantage. The officers couldn’t get to the ones who were down.” Children were among those held inside during the stand-off, according to officials. A 20-year-old was also found shot and injured inside, local CBS affiliate WBTW-TV reports. The officers shot at the scene had to be rescued from the area in an operation using an armoured personnel carrier.

Why There Should Be A Spot For Heather In Your Garden Words: Debby Looney
Garden Magic Nothing provides colour better throughout the winter months than heathers. A forgotten about group of plants, they have gotten a bad rep for overgrowing their welcome. It is true that if not looked after, they become lanky, woody, brown, straggly and unsightly. The only reason heathers become ugly is because they need a severe trim after flowering every year. Miss a year and things start going wrong. After flowering, cut back all heathers to the point at which they started flowering. This does not really have to be done carefully, you can take a shears or even a hedge trimmer to them. This is the only attention they will need all year! Heathers fall into two groups, Calluna and Erica. Callunas are lime tolerant and recognisable as such by their leaves and structure. The leaves are smooth and soft, and their growth is upright. Ericas do not tolerate lime, and their leaves are more like needles. They do not grow as tall as Calluna types, and their growth is horizontal more so than vertical. I think heathers look best in a designated bed as they compliment eachother. Having said that, they also work really well as a border edging, especially Erica varieties, as they tend to stay lower and have a nice round growth habit. I have Erica ‘Kramer’s Red’ along the driveway, in winter it blazes purple and in summer it is a nice dark green. Perfect! Some varieties to try are: Calluna ‘Silver Knight’, beautiful mauve flowers on silver foliage. C. ‘Dark Beauty’ – the
deepest of burgundy flowers on rich green foliage, the most striking of all the dark flowered ones. C. ‘Wickwar Flame’, lavender flowers on golden foliage, good contrast. C. ‘Theresa’, pink buds on golden foliage – looks like it glows! C. ‘Helena’ white buds on bright green foliage, a welcome break from the pink colours. C. ‘Bonita’ has crimson buds on amber foliage, very pretty. Erica varieties: E. ‘St. Keverne’ has bright pink flowers early in the autumn, compact growth habit. E. ‘Darley Dale’ pink, but foliage has white tips in the spring. E. ‘Eva Gold’ pink flowers, golden foliage. E. ‘Furzey’ dark pink flowers, pink tips in spring. There is a relatively new trend in Calluna types emerging, one of which sells under ‘the Girls’ range. These are usually two or three different colours in one pot. They are different plants put in together, and I have noticed in the garden one colour usually takes over from the others. They are great for pots, however. Also painted heathers are popular for pots. They come in bright, unnatural colours such as yellow, blue, red or purple. Appa-
rantly it is a harmless food dye which is used, but many of the plants die eventually. I think it is a crime against nature, but cannot deny their cheeriness! Most heathers work best if you plant them in groups of three. They look very well in combination with dwarf conifers, such as Pinus pumila, Podocarpus ‘Golden Dwarf’ or ‘Young Rusty’, Picea ‘Daisy’s white’ or Cryptomeria ‘Globosa nana’. They also look well with grasses, such as Carex ‘Evergold’, Carex buchananii, Ophiopogon nigrescens or Festuca ‘Intense blue’. More structural plants, such as Phormiums and Astelia also look well in a heather bed. Alternatively heathers can be used as underplanting for trees. All heathers are excellent for pollinators. They provide much needed pollen in winter and spring, and it is a great idea to plant them near your apple trees and other fruit plants in order to get pollinators into the habit of visiting a certain area of your garden. All in all, there should be a spot for heather in anyone’s garden!

Organising the perfect
Christmas party DON’T be daunted by the prospect of organising a Christmas party. Whether you have been tasked with co-ordinating your work do, or want to organise a get-together for friends or family, now is the ideal time to get out that pen and paper and start planning. Early birds will also avoid the disappointment of unavailable venues and the prospect of leading a lessthan-merry band of revellers around the streets in search of party central! First off, nail down the date. Consult everyone involved as to which dates they are available and, if it is a work function, try to find out the optimum day of the week for the event. For instance, Friday nights might work best because colleagues won’t have work the next day or alternatively this might be a no go as it eats into their weekend. Finalise a total budget for the event and confirm the number of guests – have in mind a minimum and maximum number of guests who will attend. The right venue is key – consider what type of venue most suits your team; a hotel, unique venue, marquee, bar or nightclub?
Location is also crucial – would you like the venue walking distance from your office or are you willing to travel slightly further? It is also important to consider where most people will be travelling back to at the end of the night to make sure the location is convenient and ensure maximum attendance.
The party atmosphere is another crucial consideration – do you require a formal sit-down dinner followed by dancing or maybe more of a party atmosphere focusing on drinking and dancing? It is important to be realistic with your budget here, in particular think about what food and drink you would like included in your Christmas party package.

WE HAVE it sussed when it comes to dazzling in party-perfect makeup! We got tips from the top in the form of makeup maestro Bobbi Brown. The best canvas is of course your natural complexion and Bobbi advises you to begin by gently smoothing on moisturiser to soften and refresh your skin. Next, use a concealer brush to apply corrector and then concealer under the eye area and use fingers to pat and blend both products into the skin. They’ll help conceal any darkness and brighten up your face. Finally, use foundation that matches skin exactly to even out areas where skin is red or uneven. Using an Eye Shadow Brush, apply eyeshadow all over the lid. Then, with a Cream Shadow Brush, apply a creaseproof eyeshadow, such as Bobbi Brown Sand Dollar Long-Wear Cream Shadow, onto the lower lid up to the crease. Use an ultra-fine eyeliner brush to make eyes stand out with Bobbi Black Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. For long-lasting, romantic lashes that won’t smear or fade brush two coats of Bobbi Brown Black No Smudge Mascara on the lashes. For a pretty glow use two shades of blush–a neutral and a brighter ‘pop’ shade. Smile and apply onto cheeks. Blend the colour upward towards the hairline and then downward to keep colour light and blended. For a final touch, dab a pop of pale pink blush onto the apples of the cheeks. Powder blush is long-lasting, but we also love cream varieties. The Bobbi Brown Pot Rouges are just the ticket and also ideal for saving space in that teeny tiny party clutch bag as you can use them for both lips and cheeks!

Skoda Vision RS Hot Hatch Concept Busts Out
Volkswagen’s Czech-based budget brand appears to have found its visual groove after showing off this edgy new concept car, the Skoda VISION RS, alongside the its new hero SUV, the Kodiaq RS, at the 2018 Paris Motor Show recently. Previewing a fresh and futuristic Skoda design language with more angles than a refracted parallelogram, and the first RS to feature a plug-in hybrid system, the Skoda VISION RS is a 180kW
compact hot hatch widely expected to inspire the next Skoda Rapid hatch. There’s plenty of exterior eye candy on this Skoda, starting with an assertive front-end design with a low front spoiler and Audi-esque air-dams. The rearend has even more visual drama with a bold roof spoiler and rear diffuser, tied together with large 20-inch alloy wheels.
Porsche Cars To Employ
Video Game Tech The world’s greatest driving instructor could be a standard feature on every single Porsche in the near future. That appears to be the objective at Porsche, which has just bought a sizable share of a Swiss start-up that specialises in augmented-reality projectors that could turn a Porsche windscreen into a video game like Gran Turismo. The multi million euro investment
in Zurich-based company WayRay could lead to holographic displays showing the ideal apex and perfect line through a corner at any race track in the world. Indeed, if you thought that race line guidance in Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport video games were akin to ‘cheating’, you may have strong opinions about Porsche’s proposed augmented reality tech as well.
BMW Planning Reborn M1 Supercar
BMW could have a 450kW-plus successor to the iconic M1 supercar of the late 1970s on sale by early next decade. The project is the lovechild of BMW Group’s development chief Klaus Frohlich, who confirmed his desire to build a new-generation BMW supercar to Australian media during an interview at the Paris motor show overnight. Frohlich revealed his supercar plan hinged around using the carbon-fibre
structure of the current i8 coupe and an all-wheel drive petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain. But while the current i8 makes 275kW from its combination of front-mounted electric motor and rear-mounted 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, Frohlich said the supercar would make 600hp (447kW) or more. And that spells supercar or even hypercar performance levels.

Natural, Lighter And Stronger Nails With Polygel Polygel opens up the opportunity for Killarney Toning and Beauty Studio to offer nail enhancement services to their clients that have no odour due to it being monomer free, and the filings are heavier so they just fall to the table and don’t hang in the air. Polygel is also very light, much lighter than acrylics, so you would hardly notice that you’re wearing it! This doesn’t mean that it’s not as strong. In fact, it’s stronger than hard gels and much more flexible than acrylics and it’s not going to lift. Polygel basically takes the best qualities of both liquid and powder acrylics and LED hard gels in a new patent-pending formula that’s so easy to use. Nails look so much more natural with Polygel and they feel much lighter to wear. It’s stronger, more flexible, won’t lift and it lasts longer plus there’s no odour or airborne dust so it’s a much more pleasant experience. A big bonus is that it takes less time to complete a set of Polygel nails so your client won’t have to take as much time
out of their day. Any colour can be applied on top of your nail enhancement for the perfect finish with a high gloss shine. They last 3-4 weeks depending how hard wearing you are in your nails. With Christmas only around the corner, appointments are filling up fast. Book early to avoid disappointment. Call Jill to book on 064 66 32966.

Netflix - Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father - Season 2
Review: Cher - Dancing Queen Cher Lovingly Updates ABBA’s Hits on ‘Dancing Queen’. Dancing Queen, Cher’s 26th album. Working with producer Mark Taylor who helped seal Cher’s legacy with the game-changing “Believe” in the late Nineties, she finds subtle changes that update ABBA classics without totally stripping them of the catchiness that made those songs beloved
hits well beyond their heyday. “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” “SOS” and “Mamma Mia” are given just enough of a knob turn that they’re transformed from upbeat FM radio pop into club bangers, pulsating with every beat. Cher covers an incredibly expansive representation of ABBA’s music in only 10 songs.

With Season 2 now on Netflix, the British comedian returns for a whole new batch of adventures across Eastern Europe with his Debbie Downer daddy. While Jack tried to take his father on a gap year type trip in Season 1, the new episodes give the elder Whitehall more control of the itinerary, but the bickering remains the same.

and she reveals Bake Off co-stars made her 12 cakes for the occasion
Una Healy Looks Happy With ‘New Man’ While In LA
Last week, Candice shocked fans when she revealed on Twitter that she’d secretly tied the knot with her tree surgeon beau Liam Macaulay in France just days earlier. The Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown has shared the first glimpse of the breathtaking Monique Lhuillier satin gown she wore as she married her longtime love at Château de Varennes in Burgundy on September 22. Speaking with HELLO!, Candice said of her strapless duchess dress, which she teamed with a tartan Vivienne Westwood bag and red embellished Alexander McQueen shoes: ‘There was no way I was going conservative on my wedding day.’ Candice’s Bake Off competitors were on hand to

help the happy couple celebrate and all eyes were on the wedding cake which turned out to be 12 separate masterpieces created by the bakers. ‘There will never be another wedding-cake table like that – there was enough to feed about 300 people,’ said Candice, whose two pet dogs were also special guests at the romantic ceremony. ‘They reflected each of them and me. Val [Stones] made a pug bride and groom, while Selasi [Gbormittah] biked over handmade chocolate from Switzerland.’ Turning her attention to her new husband, Candice gushed: ‘We have always said we work better together than we do apart. Being able to say we are now husband and wife is such a lovely thing.’
Take That To Celebrate 30th Anniversary With A New BBC Documentary Una Healy is showing estranged husband Ben Foden what he’s missing on her LA trip. Una split from her husband of six years, Ben Foden, in July after finding out he had allegedly cheated on her. Una looked stunning in a bright red Ivy Park bodysuit while posing with model Kenneth ‘KP’ Guidroz on Malibu beach. Showcasing her sensational new blonde locks. Una tagged K.P. Guidroz in one of her pictures. The model posted photos with the mum of two of his Instagram page. Speaking to Hello! Magazine recently Una said: ‘My life has been turned upside down and I’m trying to figure it out. I’m taking each day as it comes and just being there for my children.’

One of the biggest boybands in the world are planning their 30th anniversary celebrations and want help from their fans. Alongside a planned world tour, Take That are calling on members of the public to upload their own Take That memories and experiences to www.mytakethatstory.com. The band will then be filmed reacting to the stories and sharing some of their own favourites. The deadline is October 31st. The documentary will be called ‘Take That and Us’. The singers said: “Has it really been 30 years? There’s only one way to find out we said, as we accepted the offer
of taking a closer look at our three decades in music. “We’ve handed over our own personal camcorders from the 90s, we’ve asked fans to share their stories from over the years and we’re bringing the story up to date by sharing some behind the scenes from our lives today as we prepare for the launch of our Greatest Hits record.” Kate Phillips, controller of entertainment commissioning at the BBC, said: “This entertaining programme will shine a light on how everything changes as we celebrate the band and the music they’ve created over an incredible career.”

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT & 1ST ANNIVERSARY FOLEY
In loving memory of our granddaughter Lorna Brosnan (Looney), Late of 82 Gallowsfield Tralee, Who died on the 7th of October 2012.
In loving memory of Lorna Brosnan (Looney), Late of 82 Gallowsfield Tralee, Who died on the 7th of October 2012.
Life goes on we know that’s true But it’s not the same since we lost you We keep your memories one by one The things you said the things you did They bring a smile and many a tear And always a wish that you were here In God’s care you rest above And in our hearts you rest with love.
No words we write can ever say, How much we miss you everyday, No one knows the grief we bear, When the family gather And you’re not there, We laugh, we talk, we play the part, But beyond the sorrow is a broken heart. The sorrow we feel, We can never explain, And the ache in our hearts Will always remain.
Sadly missed and always remembered by Nana Nuala and Granda Tim Looney.
A Nana is blessing She’s thoughtful and caring The finest and most precious gift Know she’ll always be there Skies be blue or grey, She will always lend a hand or two She will never turn away Each selfless thing about her is special To recall today A Nana is a blessing The most precious of all.
Always remembered by Joanne and Tony.
Our Shining and Guiding Star above.

In loving memory of Jeremy and Mary Joe O’Neill, Late of 22 Muckross View, Killarney Whose anniversaries occur on October 2 and August 19 Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away To the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, That, we still are. Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way Which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity Or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed At the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me. Let my name be ever the Household word That it always was. Let it be spoken without effect. Without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same that it ever was. There is absolute unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind Because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you. For an interval. Somewhere. Very near. Just around the corner. All is well.

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interest and desires. O St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. O, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in our arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls pray for me. This prayer was found in the fiftieth year of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In 1505 it was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle. Who ever shall read this prayer or hear it or keep it about themselves, shall never die a sudden death, or be drowned, nor shall be burned in any fire or shall be overpowered in battle. Say for nine mornings for anything you desire. It has never been known to fail, so be sure you really want what you ask for. In thanks for request granted. B.L.

NOVENA TO ST. ANTHONY O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and charity for his creatures made you worthy when on earth to possess miraculous powers. The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even though you are the Saint of Miracles, O gentle and loving St. Anthony whose heart was ever full of human sympathy. Kerry SFC 1/4 Final | Dr Crokes 1-20 Killarney Legion 0-9
All the hype leading up to last Sunday’s derby turned out to be completely unjustified as favourites Dr Crokes coasted to a comprehensive 14-point victory over Legion in the Fitzgerald Stadium. I was genuinely confident going into the game, and I think the boys were as well, so to lose in that manner was beyond disappointing. After the game someone asked me what went wrong and I didn’t really know what to say. Everything? It was just a disaster. You obviously have to give the opposition a lot of credit and I thought it was a really good performance by the Crokes. They were solid from 1 to 15 and the majority of their players won their individual battles. Tony Brosnan kicked nine points, Johnny Buckley put in a serious shift and Shane Murphy’s kick-outs were A1. Pat O’Shea’s side had been inconsistent at best in recent weeks but they just seemed to click into gear for this one, which I suppose is typical from our perspective. I know from speaking to a couple of their players that they were a bit worried about us coming into the game and that probably focussed them. They were on it from the very first minute. They’re well used to performing on the big stage as well. It’s second nature to them by this point and I think that was a factor on the day. I doubt there are
any players in the country who have played more championship games than the likes of John Payne, Mike Moloney, Brian Looney, Kieran O’Leary and Gooch. That experience is priceless. It looks like the three-in-a-row is a real possibility now, although you’d imagine that Rahilly’s and East Kerry/Dingle will run them closer than we managed last weekend. For our part, I know Jamesie O’Sullivan will be making preparations for the O’Donoghue Cup and the players will obviously do their best, but it might be hard for guys to find the motivation to attack the East Kerry championship with any real vigour. Sunday’s defeat was another cruel blow for this group of players and fellas are bound to be demoralised. Winning the county championship is the ultimate goal and to get knocked out by your neighbours makes it even more painful. As a club, it seems to be false dawn after false dawn and being the poor cousins certainly isn’t easy. It’s a source of great frustration for everyone involved. We were in a similar position with Killarney Athletic. We had gone 50 years without winning a league title and we always seemed to come up short against our biggest rivals, Celtic. There were guys who had played for Athletic for years but had never beaten them. It had reached the stage where there was virtually no belief within the club that we could actually go and do it.
2015/16 was a low. We came within inches of finally beating Celtic only to concede an own goal with the last kick of the game. In the end, we only barely stayed up. We were rubbish and the season was an unmitigated disaster. But as the saying goes, it’s not how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up. We came back stronger and more determined the following season, and we won the first derby 3-2 with two late goals. That was a real monkey off our back and it gave us huge amount of confidence. We pushed on and made the league final (against Celtic, obviously) and eventually took the lead 85 minutes into the replay. When the final whistle went, it was like nothing I’ve ever experienced. It was a moment I had played out in my head all year but when it actually happened, it was infinitely better than I had ever imagined. All the years of failure, the hard work going unrewarded, the hard luck stories, being the butt of the jokes, having to put up with the whole town (including people from our own club) talking s*** about us, being told that we’d never win anything… It was actually all worth it in the end because it made the victory so much sweeter. It will be the same for Legion when we get over the line. It’s just a matter of getting back up and going again.

Roche Catches The Eye With Deadly Finishing
X

Kerry SFC 1/4 Final East Kerry 4-12 | South Kerry 2-10
KERRY SFC SEMI-FINALS Sunday, October 14, Austin Stack Park 2pm
East Kerry v Dingle
3:45pm Dr Crokes v Kerins O’Rahilly’s One question invariably crops up after East Kerry games these days: “Is he worth a lookin?” The East have been rampant in this year’s championship to date and the exploits of their young guns have left many observers wondering if a few might be good enough to play for the Kerry seniors in 2019. Based on the previous three games you could have already made compelling arguments for guys like Seán O’Leary, Kieran Murphy, Jack Sherwood, Dara Moynihan, Paudie Clifford and Evan Cronin and on Sunday another man caught the eye. Glenflesk sharpshooter Darragh Roche bagged 2-3 in a brilliant display of finishing and he also provided the assist of the day when his improvised pass sent David Clifford clean through on goal. Roche led his club to the intermediate final earlier this year and although Glenflesk lost, the free-scoring forward showed he was a man for the big occasion by notching 2-5. Senior intercounty football is obviously a big step up but performances like the one he gave on Sunday will do his chances no harm at all. (Not sure about the celebration though…) It took East Kerry a while to get going against South Kerry but you always felt they had another
Dara Moynihan tries to keep his feet under pressure from an opponent.
couple of gears in them. When they eventually started rolling, there was really only going to be one winner and Oran Clifford’s foolish red card obviously played right into their hands. Influential midfielder Kieran Murphy was out through injury but experienced clubmate Shane McSweeney had a fine game in his stead, while the versatile Jack Sherwood once again showed his intercounty credentials with another superb performance. Industrious half-forward Dara Moynihan was at his swashbuckling best and David Clifford scored 1-4 in his first ever Kerry SFC Quarter-Final. The future is undoubtedly bright for the district but there is a slight caveat. Kilcummin will be a senior club in 2019 so a good chunk of East Kerry’s current squad will be unavailable for
selection next year, including no fewer than six regular starters (Brendan Kealy, Philip Casey, Seán O’Leary, Kieran Murphy, Kevin Gorman and Kevin McCarthy) plus two fringe players (Shane McSweeney and Noel Duggan) who have started a game each. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it’s do-or-die for East Kerry, but this is certainly a wonderful opportunity to clinch their first Kerry SFC since 1999. Standing in their way in the next round will be Dingle, against whom they racked up 6-16 as recently as September 9. Crokes will be looking for revenge against Kerins O’Rahilly’s in the other semi and from a local’s perspective, the dream final would be East Kerry v Crokes up in the Park on October 28. On last weekend’s form, you certainly wouldn’t bet against that happening.

“Legion Made It All So Easy For Crokes” Words: Eamonn Fitzgerald This much looked forward to Kerry quarter-final clash between Killarney town rivals Dr Crokes and Legion never materialised as Crokes were complete masters over a disappointing Legion side at the Park on Sunday last. I had expected Legion to be very competitive in this game, especially after two great away wins over Rathmore and Mid Kerry in the earlier rounds. Legion lined out as per programme as Podge O’Connor was ineligible to play after his sojourn in the USA. Crokes had three changes from the programme list: Shane Doolan started at centre back instead of Alan O Sullivan, and corner forwards Tony Brosnan and David Shaw came in for Colm Cooper and Jordan Kiely. Legion started well. Midfielder Billy McGuire cut through the middle from the throw-in and sent over a point. They had the aid of a strong breeze playing down into the dressing room end but they made poor use of it. It was their only score in the first half. Brian Looney equalised in the fifth minute and then Tony Brosnan stole the show with the first of his nine points. Four of these were frees and he added five delightful points from play. Legion could make no hand of curbing Brosnan and they were outplayed in most positions. In those recent wins they were able to get the ball from midfield into the full forward line but they struggled to do this against Crokes. Daithí Casey did very well at midfield and even when Legion got the ball into the Crokes defensive areas they made no progress. Full credit to Dr Crokes’ defence as they snuffed out the infrequent attacks. James O’Donoghue was Legion’s best bet to score but he was crowded out so often. He did end with six points. Three of these were frees. Apart from the elegant top scorer Tony Brosnan, other scorers in that magnificent first half display by Crokes were Brian Looney, Micheál Burns, David Shaw and Kieran O’Leary. Legion were 13 points to 1 adrift at half-time and faced a mountain in the second half playing into the strong breeze. They started well with points from captain Danny Sheahan and two from James O’Donoghue and Crokes’ lead was cut to nine by the 35th minute as Legion made some impact. Remember Crokes lost a similar lead to Kerins O’Rahilly’s in an earlier round. Could it be the same again? Brian Looney answered any such doubt when he made the most of a mix-up between two Legion defenders by nipping in for the only goal of the game. By the 36th minute the score stood at Crokes 1-13 to Legion’s 0-4. That was as good as it got for Legion as Crokes drove on to copperfasten victory. Legion added five points in the final quarter, but they needed goals to make any impression. The Crokes defence gave good protection to Shane Murphy and went on to win by that big margin.
Dr Crokes back John Payne is challenged by Legion’s Conor Keane. Pic: Don MacMonagle.
It was a disappointing display by the Legion who made it all so easy for their opponents. They now go on to meet Kerins O’Rahilly’s in the county semi-final next weekend. This will be a stiff test and Crokes will remember that they had a 10-point lead in the 50th minute in their recent match but were beaten by a late flurry of scores by the Tralee side. East Kerry 4-12 South Kerry 2-10 Before this year’s championship started I picked East Kerry as the most likely team to win it out and everything they have done so far points that way. They have very good scoring forwards, a good solid midfield and a defence which is improving all the time. There is still room for improvement in the defence: they conceded two goals on Sunday last. East Kerry showed one change from the team listed in the match programme. Darragh Roche came on for corner back DJ Murphy, but he played up in the forwards where he made his usual presence felt in the scoring stakes. He scored 2-1 from play and added two more points from frees. He notched up a similar score in his previous outing. The Glenflesk man opened the scoring after two minutes with a point. David Clifford, listed at full forward but playing in the right corner, added a point after five minutes. The superstar had a quiet enough game, but he still contributed 1-4 and of this tally 1-1 was from play. Niall O’Shea opened the scoring for South Kerry with a point in the seventh minute. East Kerry had four wides while South Kerry had three balls that dropped short.
Evan Cronin made it 3 points to 1 after 15 minutes before former Kerry star Bryan Sheehan landed the first of his frees. He was operating at midfield and South Kerry were relying on him to do most of the scoring. He scored 1-6 in total and 5 of these were frees. He was very ambitious with several frees from outside the 45 metre line and missed five, but they were all long distance efforts. He was on hand following up in the 24th minute making the most of a ball close to goal which should have been cleared to safety. This gave South Kerry the lead but it was short lived. Enter opportunist Darragh Roche to score two goals. Former Kerry minor Sean O’Leary was very impressive as an an attacking right half-back while up front I was very impressed by left half-forward Jack Sherwood who showed his county class. Once they got in front before at the break, East Kerry looked like real masters. David Clifford brought the game to half-time with a bullet of a point which could just as easily have gone under. At half-time East Kerry led 2-7 to 1-4. East Kerry dominated the second half as the goals came via David Clifford and substitute Noel Duggan. I was delighted to see Liam Kearney come on. He has been out injured for a long time. With the last kick of the game in the 63rd minute, Ciarán Keating shot through a packed East Kerry goalmouth to raise a green flag. It was too little, too late for South Kerry. East Kerry now march on to meet Dingle in the semi-final in 10 days time. The two semi-finals will probably be a double-header to be fixed by the Kerry CCC.

For Undefeated Lakers Portlaoise Panthers 77 | Scotts Lakers St Paul’s 94 Words: Eamonn Keogh
It has been the best possible start to the new season and a super September for the Scotts Lakers, who recorded their fifth win on the trot in St Mary’s Sports Hall in Portlaoise last Saturday night. After a close first half, the Killarney side broke away and opened up a 22-point gap that effectively put the game out of reach. The Lakers’ 100% unbeaten record was also matched by Ballincollig last weekend and it sets up a mouth-watering top of the table clash in Killarney Sports Centre this Saturday night. In Portlaoise last Saturday, Scotts Lakers started brightly with Papito Hersisia and Dailian Mason leading the way. American Mike Pierre kept the home side in touch but the Lakers enjoyed a slender 23-21 lead at the end of the first quarter. Scotts Lakers maintained their advantage throughout the second quarter with Papito Hersisia dominating in all sectors, while Seán O’Brien was also a very influential figure. Dylan O’Sullivan featured prominently as well and the Lakers led 46-41 at half-time. The visitors started the second half in convincing fashion and opened up a commanding lead that
eventually helped to secure victory. Seán O’Brien continued to impress while Andrew Fitzgerald and Dailian Mason were also outstanding and the Killarney side were 75-53 in front as the game entered the final quarter. The closing period was a mere formality and the Lakers’ lead was never really threatened. It was a match where coach Cormac O’Donoghue made full use of his bench as all ten players on duty saw game time. James Murphy added the final basket of the night with the Lakers having 17 points to spare in the end. The Killarney side scored ten three-pointers with Papito Hersisia hitting five in his 28-point total. The big Dutch power forward was also a colossus under the boards, grabbing 20 rebounds which included 18 on the defensive end. Scotts Lakers: Papito Hersisa (28), Seán O’Brien (23), Dailian Mason (20), Andrew Fitzgerald (10), Dylan O’Sullivan (4), Shane McCarthy (3), Mark Greene (2), Justin Tuason (2), James Murphy (2) and Marko Bencic. Portlaoise Panthers top scorers: Mike Pierre (28), Mantas Vilimas (14), Jack Dooley (9) and Seán Condon (6).

Top Of The Table Clash
Killarney Sports Centre will host the highly anticipated top of the table clash between joint leaders Scotts Lakers and Tradehouse Central Ballincollig this Saturday night, October 6 at 7.30pm. Both sides are undefeated so far this season with five victories each and this match could be a significant factor in deciding the southern conference title at the end of the season. Ballincollig haven’t really been troubled by any team yet and have enjoyed comprehensive wins over Fr Mathews, Waterford Vikings, Carlow IT, Limerick IT and Limerick Celtics. Their American Andre Nation is regarded as an outstanding player, clocking up 45 points in one match and hitting over 40 in three games so far. The Cork side can also call on talented Irish players Ciarán O’Sullivan, Dylan Corkery and Ian McLoughlin, who played with Killorglin last season. Ballincollig were too strong for Scotts Lakers on two occasions last season. They won 98-75 in a league match in Cork in November and cruised to a 98-74 victory in the cup semi-final in January before going on to clinch the cup title. In both matches their pressurising full-court press forced a succession of turnovers from the Lakers, while their aggressive
defence completely frustrated and limited the threat of the Lakers’ foreign player Antuan Bootle. However, Ballincollig will come up against a much stronger Scotts Lakers team this Saturday night. While the visitors may have a great player in Andre Nation, Lakers have an exceptional American in Seán O’Brien and he won’t be beaten too easily. He is averaging 28 points per game and his tremendous all-round play is the main reason why the Scotts Lakers are unbeaten and a more formidable force this season. The addition of power forward Papito Hersisia is another big plus for the Lakers and he has the potential to dominate any battle under the boards. Having already enjoyed victories over Limerick IT, Fr Mathews, Waterford Vikings, UL Eagles and Portlaoise, the Lakers will be hoping to go one step
further to take that top spot on their own. O’Brien and Hersisia will command close attention from the visitors and Coach Cormac O’Donogue will be looking for all his squad players to step up with a big performance. Team captain Mark Greene, Dailian Mason, Andrew Fitzgerald, Shane McCarthy and Justin Tuason are just some of the Lakers squad who are all capable of making a big difference while the home side may also welcome back big Pádraig Lucey for this encounter. Killarney basketball supporters are expected to come out in force for this top of the table clash and the prospect of watching the two best Americans in the league is an added attraction. Tip-off in Killarney Sports Centre is at 7.30pm and doors will be open from 6.30pm.

Mercedes tightens noose on Ferrari
Mercedes has crushed Ferrari further into submission in Formula 1’s World Championships, maintaining its perfect victory record at the fifth Russian Grand Prix and scoring its third one-two at Sochi. Valtteri Bottas handed the win under team orders to Lewis Hamilton, who stretched his lead over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to 50 points, 306-256, with five races – and a maximum 125 points – remaining. But the drive of the day was by Max Verstappen on his 21st birthday. From the last row of the grid, because of Red Bull taking penalties for reverting to Renault’s B-spec engine, Verstappen immediately made up six places, was fifth by the eighth lap, took the lead as the Mercs and Ferraris pitted for fresh tyres, and led most of the race. Verstappen drove 43 scintillating laps on Pirelli’s soft-compound tyres but, after his sole pitstop to switch to the ultrasoft rubber, ended up fifth. The Ferrari has looked the quicker car for most of the season but has now been trounced by Mercedes in Italy, Singapore and Russia. Vettel finished almost 7.5 seconds behind Hamilton and 2.5 seconds behind Bottas, and said he understood the Merc team orders, calling them “a no-brainer”.
Ogier: Title Bid Over If I Don’t Beat Neuville & Tanak In Gb
Sebastien Ogier believes his World Rally Championship title streak will end if he cannot beat rivals Thierry Neuville and Ott Tanak on Rally GB this weekend. The five-time WRC champion is down to third in the standings after his crash in Turkey last month, and trails leader Neuville by 23 points and Tanak by 10. “If I want to keep my chance alive, I need to beat them this weekend,” explains Ogier. “In Spain and Australia, anything can happen. But this is a rally I like. It’s a tricky rally with tricky conditions, but those conditions bring possibilities with them.” Ogier has won four of the last five Rally GBs, tying him with Petter Solberg and Hannu Mikkola as the event’s most successful driver. He insisted he is the title contender with the least pressure. “I am aware it’s a very important event for me, but I don’t feel extra pressure,” said Ogier. “I believe the pressure is more on my contenders - they are fighting for their first championship and it’s never easy to lead or hold the lead.” Last year Ogier won a fifth title with just two wins, whereas this year he has already won three times but is faring worse in the championship battle.

More Consistency Needed From Munster
Words: Liam Murphy Last weekend, Munster took on provincial rivals Ulster in the PRO14 at Thomond Park and absolutely destroyed the visitors by 64 point to 7, a complete change and vast improvement from the weekend before against Cardiff. Munster came into this match with a 50% win rate and in the end scored nine tries, however Leinster await the men in red at the Aviva next weekend. The big positive was watching Munster close out the game in style when down to 14 men for the final few minutes and watching the subs all make a difference. However, I would dearly give up 50 of those points and a closer win for some consistency in the Munster side! We can have all the big boys back but will learn very little from a weakened Ulster team ahead of a brutal encounter next weekend. To win any silverware is surely a priority, but consistent displays are needed at a minimum. Let’s see how the lads get on against Leinster. Closer to home, the Munster Junior League continued last weekend, but Killarney were not in action having played Tralee the previous weekend. Local sides Killorglin and Corcha Dhuibhne were in action with Killorglin losing to Dungarvan by four points and Corca Dhuibhne walloping Dunmanway by six tries to one. In a league with four Kerry sides competing, this season promises to be an absolute cracker. Every bonus point will be well earned and will be very valuable. This weekend Killarney make the long trip to Dunmanway and this promises to be a great match, while Ennis host Corca Dhuibhne, Scariff host Killorglin and Tralee are the only Kerry side with a home match as they host Douglas-Carrigaline. All in all, some fantastic local rugby action taking place.
Congratulations to the Spa ladies who recently won the coveted Junior A Championship. They now go on to meet the winners of Cork in the Munster semi-final.

We are awaiting confirmation from the county board but think that it takes place this Saturday at 5pm in Farranfore. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for confirmation, wear your club colours and come support the girls.
