MININATURE FITNESS CITY
Uyen Pham, Yin Chen Lin, Qiancheng Ma Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY | Summer 2013
A Miniature Urbanized Fitness Center Design Bases On Typological Research of DUMBO’s Wind Speed and Relative Humidity
The open space, street and the intersection conditions at Dumbo create radically different regions of relative humidity and wind speed. The Miniature Fitness City is designed as a model of these three conditions. The building initially is sandwiched between recreation and fitness. Recreational spaces are placed semi-outdoor, open field condition. Fitness facilities are divided into multiple floors gradually reshaping their forms and linked together with other facilities by a running track system that inspires the street condition. Series of air wells affect by intersection condition exchanging the inside air with the nature air. The surrounding urban activities are critically analyzed at MFC acts as a city within a city.

CARVING CITY
Uyen Pham | Beijing, China Air pollution in Beijing is critical because of the growth of population and factories. “The city’s air quality is often poor, especially in winter when stagnant weather patterns combine with an increase in coal-burning to exacerbate other forms of pollution and create periods of heavy smog for days at a time.” (Daily Mail) On the west side of the city where farm, industry and residential areas are mixed together, there is an unhealthy environment and lack of public facilities. Most people live in the tall buildings with no interaction with the outside environment. To provide better living conditions for these areas I propose a Carving City. Carving City will occupy farmland to layer program and landscapes to improve local air quality and living conditions.
what if
saving micro-climate and environment eco-friendly in Beijing by combining mega block, industrial, farmland, park, and mountain into one?
Then, Carving City will become new living styles with
layer of program and landscapes that improves the local air quality and living conditions.
