Living in Thompson Hall puts you in the heart of the action. Students enjoy single rooms connected to their neighbors with a pocket door. If you want to have the chummy roommate experience, you can, and if you never want to open that door, you can do that, too. Don’t like going out in the rain? Get-up, get breakfast in our dining hall and go to class without ever going outside. Our underground tunnel makes year-round flip-flops a possibility.

Co-op & Experiential Learning
professional STRENGTH LEARNING: THE KETTERING ADVANTAGE Kettering University is devoted to the concepts of innovation, entrepreneurship, and educating for the future. To this end, Kettering’s educational focus is on cooperative education and experiential learning. Research shows that hands-on experience combined with theory is the best way to learn. Students who participate in co-op or internship programs are better problem solvers and more technically knowledgeable than their peers. Kettering students will earn up to two and a half years of experience working at corporations that connect to their studies and interests. Our students have done everything from testing ballistic systems to reengineering amusement park crowd management. Under the Kettering academic calendar, students rotate between three month terms of on-campus study with three month terms of co-op employment or other approved experiential work experience. A Kettering student may earn experiential education credit for any approved experiences during work terms which involve the equivalent of a minimum of six weeks of full-time effort.

THESIS...FROM PROBLEM TO SOLUTION Problem: A seating systems company lacked a mechanism to safely and efficiently transport seats between conveyors. Solution: Joseph Meyer designed a universal ergonomic lifting device; resulting in a savings of $1.2 million. Problem: Traditional methods have proven problematic in the search and recovery of missing persons and human remains. Solution: Sarah Kokosa utilized infrared red spectroscopy to analyze skin, bone and hair air for tracking and locating live humans as well as detecting human remains. Problem: A communications company y was experiencing reliability y and efficiency issues with employee time documentation. Solution: Benjamin Banks created a database to facilitate fast, accurate management of time documentation. Information n ed can be searched and recalled for payroll and customer invoices more efficiently, resulting esulting in cost savings of $18,720 per year.
