French Inspired

Welcome There is a certain refinement and flavour that French Country styling exudes. Rustic earthy colours, rolling country fields filled with the scent of lavender and bright sunshine. These, and the blue, white and red are synonymous with French traditions. Exquisite and interesting fabrics ranging from textural printed linens, to the quintessential toiles, checks and stripes, together with bold and beautiful florals, all reflect a feeling of tradition and functionality. With needle, thread and fibre, we have combined some of these elements to bring together a stunning collection of projects so that you too can create a French Inspired home.

Warmly Lenna & Janice

La maison est le meilleur sanctuaire de l'amour et du bonheur. There is no sanctuary of love and joy like home.

Scandinavian design stands for simplicity and function with a minimalistic undertone—“this captures how we like our designs to feel for the crafter who takes on any of our kits” Anette Eriksson

Designer Profile

Anette Eriksson of

Anette Eriksson Design

Born in Sweden, I moved to Melbourne, Australia in 1992 where I stayed for twenty years. My husband and I moved back to Sweden and lived there for five years. Now we are back in Melbourne, spending half a year in Melbourne and half the year in Borås, a small town in the south of Sweden. Borås is famous for its Textile and Fashion Centres. Growing up, homemade was a way of life. Taking an early interest in craft, I mainly knitted and crocheted, did a little painting and textile dip dye. During my teens I sewed, creating my

own clothes as I wanted to become a fashion designer. I have mainly worked as a design manager for various textile and fashion companies and following that was a Group Buying Manager of a Swedish textile chain store company called Hemtex. I love everything about craft and DIY, but my passion is for stitching, particularly cross stitch, needlepoint and embroidery. Seeing the design/ graph slowly transforming from paper to textile is so rewarding.

“My job is my passion as I get to design and stitch everyday”. As I am focussing on Scandinavian design and my maiden name is Eriksson, it was natural for me to use my name, Anette Eriksson for my business name. My branded product sells globally, mainly through distributors, with my biggest customer being John Lewis in the United Kingdom. I also have an online shop and an Etsy store. Recently I signed up with a new distributor for Australia and New Zealand. My goal is to become a global brand for needlecraft. At present I am working on my new collection for ‘Dip Dye’ and some new pieces for my ‘Scandinavian Christmas Collection’.

Stitching home décor items, such as decorative pillows and textile art, are my favourites. My colour preference is working with black and white on hessian and linen fabrics. They are classic yet contemporary. A second colour preference would be working with shades of blue. The ‘French Collection’ are my favourite designs - mainly stitched in simple black and white on hessian, together with my ‘Scandinavian Collection’ mainly stitched with simple Back stitch embroidery on calico cotton. I prefer stitching half cross stich on hessian with a 4—5 ply yarn. Our home is decorated with some of my hand stitched designs. They focus more on lifestyle aspects rather than trends. My job is my passion as I get to design and stitch every day. However, there is never enough time to do al the designs that continually pop into my mind!

French Inspired Toile Quilt n m Designed by Janice Kellaway Approximate Size 47” x 58” (120cm x 148cm) NB a ¼” seam allowance has been used throughout this pattern Length is based on fabric 44” (112cm) wide

Make this stunning quilt for your home. Toile de Jouy is a decorative fabric that originated in France in the late 18th century. It means ‘canvas’ or ‘linen cloth’. Usually depicting complex scenes from rural or pastoral setting, it has a repeat pattern throughout the cloth. This quilt is made up of two blocks that have been repeated alternatively throughout the quilt. The finished size of each block is 9”. The two blocks are a snowball version and an album block. Instructions to make each block are given using plain red fabric and the feature toile. The toile fabric has been fussy cut for the centre of the snowball block. A 6½” quilters square is an advantage when fussy cutting your fabric, as you can see through the square and line up the selected pattern to be cut. You will need to make 15 of each block to complete the quilt top.

Decorate your kitchen with some French Country flare. Embellish good quality, striped cotton tea towels with an exquisite crocheted edge. Hang them from a rustic hook or drape them for all to admire. Both crocheted edgings are worked to the width of the tea towel then sewn onto the edge after completion. When the tea towel becomes soiled or worn, remove the edging and sew to a fresh new one.

Handy Hint

Sew this charming cushion in less than an hour using some exquisite lace trim and a French inspired tea towel. So quick and easy that you will be able to make a collection of coordinating cushions for your home in an afternoon.

Handy Hint ~ This project is very quick and easy to make because there is no cutting or hemming of raw edges required. Choose a good quality cotton tea towel, an inferior product may not be a true rectangle in size and will make sewing more difficult.
