Home Sweet
Welcome
Home represents so much more than the physical structure of a house, the place we live. When you ask a variety of people what home means to them, they all say something different. These definitions include everything from a place you can feel comfortable cooking breakfast in your pajamas, to a place of love and comfort that always welcomes you with open arms, a gathering place of family and friends. Many associate home with their sense of smell, recalling their mother's perfume, a freshly cooked batch of biscuits or the lemon scent of a newly cleaned lounge room. For others the mention of home conjured the warmth of a husband's embrace, the boundless joy of a pet and the infectious sound of laughter. A place that evokes a sigh of relief as you walk in the door. Home isn’t a place; it’s a feeling.
Our meaning of home will be unique, it is connected to our experiences and embedded within our heart. Some people move throughout their lives allowing home to be rediscovered over and over again, while others feel tied to one place and choose never to leave the location they call home. Houses get bought and sold; a home stays with us always. Whatever home means to you, we hope that you can reflect on your own ‘Home Sweet’ as you ponder over this issue. Inspired by heart felt sayings, cute little cottages and much loved pets, we are sure you will find a special something to add to your own home, or to the home of another.
Warmly Lenna & Janice

Designed by Kelly Fletcher Approximate Size 8” (20cm) round This stunning stitchery says it all. The power of the word ‘home’ reaches out to our hearts and thoughts, and to the place where we feel safe, warm and loved. Designed by Kelly Fletcher of Kelly Fletcher Designs, this hoop stitchery will be the perfect addition to your private sanctuary.
Needle guide ~ Embroidery crewel #7 (for three to four strands of thread). Embroidery crewel #9 (for two strands of thread). Milliner #8 (for French knots).
Step 1
Prepare your project ~ Cut a 12” (30cm) square of white cotton fabric and another the same size from the cotton voile if you plan to back your ground fabric. Centre the design on the right side of the ground fabric and transfer it using your preferred transfer method. Use a water soluble marker or sharp lead pencil and a lightbox or well lit window.
Tack or overlock the voile to the back of your ground fabric if using. Embroidery stitches used ~ Chain stitch, Detached Chain stitch, French Knots, Raised Stem stitch, Satin stitch, Stem stitch, Straight stitch and Twisted Chain stitch. Handy Hint: Pay particular attention when embroidering the outline of each letter as this will determine the finished shape.
