PROPER CONTEXT Understanding God’s Word is foundational
“LET THE WEAK SAY “I AM STONG!” Joel 3:10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. Introduction to our text. The writer is the son of Pethuel, Joel, who is one of the Minor Prophets. His name means “YWH is God” and the overall theme of the book is the reality of their current situation, a call to repentance and Judgement of the enemies of God’s people. The people of God were experiencing a famine physically and spiritually. There was no worship in the Temple of God. God told them to call a solemn fast and bring everyone to the Temple. God’s judgement was about to come upon them swiftly for the error of their ways. God gave them a wakeup call. God told them to blow the horn, giving everyone a warning of the coming judgement. It was time for the people of God, to not only change their clothes but their life.
God desired true religion pure and undefiled. If the children would turn their face to God then God would restore everything they lost. He not only would give them natural restoration but spiritual restoration. The Spirit would be poured out in the last days according to Joel 2:28-29. God was giving them double for all of their trouble. What is the surrounding context? Before our text, God is gathering together all of the enemies of His people, who spoiled His land, persecuted His people and scattered them abroad. Even though God allowed this for judgment on His people, God is not going to let your enemies rest safely. This takes place for Israel but there
will be another battle called the battle of Armageddon which is the final war between human government and God. God renders vengeance. What does this text mean to the original audience? This verse is a verse of encouragement. Though the children of Israel were disobedient God would once again turn His face toward them and give vengeance to their enemies. Instead of the people fearing their enemies, God is telling them, “I got you.” Give me the worship and I’ll give you the victory. In Joel 3:10, God is saying “enemies gather yourselves with your best armor. “Come out to war, I’m ready!” Because you are mere mortals, you are weak, though you say “I am strong!” The weak can say I am strong all they want, but when you come to war, know that you are coming against the true and living God. None of your feeble weapons can stand against me. The original audience was able to gain strength from the fact that God was going to bring vengeance on their enemies.
Study this verse yourself. How is this text to be applied in 2016? There’s only a certain period of time, which God is going to let your enemies get by. Sometimes we are in a time of correction or chastisement, but it’s not there to disown us, but to show us we are sons of God. (Hebrews 12:6, Proverbs 3:12) Everyone who was a part of our chastisement or contributed to our tears and pain will not go unpunished. There’s a time coming when God will render swift justice on our enemies. Your enemy may say “I am strong” but against the almighty God, they are weak. THE GIFT AND THE OFFICE The office of the Prophet and the gift of prophecy are two distinct things.
Prophetess Kimberly M. Fleming
T
he office of the Prophet and the gift of prophecy are two very distinct things. The gift of prophecy is just that. The Bible talks about how God gave several gifts. God gives the gift of prophecy to certain people in the body of Christ. It’s not a gift to bring down anybody or talk about anybody but to edify, exhort and to comfort. The office of the Prophet is given to certain people in the body of Christ. It’s not something you can sign up for, you are born into this office. It’s an extension of the gift of prophecy. You operate out of the grace
God has given you. It’s a higher dimension and the highest office of prophecy. People who operate in the office of a Prophet are people who prophecy out of the revelation God gives them. He gives you grace to prophecy beyond the words of exhortation, edification and comfort. He gives you grace to prophecy out of revelatory gifting’s that God will deposit into your life.
Prophecy should always point to Jesus Prophecy should always line up with scripture. You should never go beyond the realm that God has called you to. The Prophet has a certain revelatory word that God downloads. Everything should always point to Jesus. View the full length interview at www.kdcmag.com

orship is your one on one time with God. Whether you are on your face or in your prayer closet. It’s also a lifestyle. You have to live what you sing about and what you pray about. Thanking God daily, for everything that he does for you. Many people think that you should only thank God when you are on the mountain top, but we also need to praise God when we are in our valley experience. I remember when I was the Minister of music and I had to deal with my mother being diagnosed with stage four cancer. I still had to
worship and tell God thank you. Yes, I had questions about the plan of God such as, “why my mother?” “why now?” Through this time I was in an angry place, but all through this season God was saying, “Just trust me.” During this time my faith increased. I prayed and worshiped more. Now its 2015 and my mom still has cancer but she says she doesn’t have cancer. What you speak over your life is what your body will react too. “THIS MIND” Philippians 2:5
M
y interpretations from the Holy Spirit of Philippians 2:5 is we have to have the mind of Christ. The way that Christ looks and thinks about our lives and other people, is how we have to look at ourselves and other people. We have to take on the perspective of Christ. When you have time, look through the Word of God and anywhere that you see “in Christ, in Him or with Him,” look at what’s being said before or after that and know that, that’s a piece of your identity. Take what you find and write it on a sticky note with the words “I am” in front of it. For example, “I am more than a conqueror.” Post them in a place
where you will see them. I often say them in the mirror, allowing myself to hear the Word of God. The more you tell yourself the Word of God you begin to find your identity in Christ and you will think differently. Thinking different causes us to feel different. Many of us are waiting on the next touch but God has given us His word to apply and be a benefit to our lives. View the full length interview at www.kdcmag.com

RESPONSIBLY
You have been gifted with purpose, on purpose.
T
he great Apostle of Jesus, who goes by the name of Paul, made this statement to a Church in the city of Ephesus saying; “After Jesus was raised from the dead, He gave gifts to the people. Some people think their abilities/giftings are reserved for use solely in a church setting, but they are for use in broader places, not just the Church. This means that even in the work place, the people of God have the responsibility to fulfill the will of God, and our abilities/giftings are given to help us achieve our purpose.
A good leader will recognize the gift that is in you. This recognition will be a confirmation to what you already have a sense of. At this point you can begin the process of cultivating a resource that will allow you to do great things to the glory of God. Remember, you must identify your gift, cultivate your gift, and use your gift, for this is the will of God in Jesus Christ concerning each and every one of us. -Minister Monterol Johnson

Passion
Entrepreneur Success Success comes from passion. Find your passion, find your success.
My background is medical claims adjuster. I love to help people. I was a caregiver for my mother and I also worked different aspects of the insurance business. One day I thought, why not start a business caring for the elderly? I love my business. It’s like they’re my adopted parents. It’s fun to be with them. In 2011 I decided to make it an official business. It was time to start, and I have been very fulfilled and successful. Is finding support important? Yes, it’s always nice to have that support. I really am doing something great for people. I began to hear my family say, “Yes, this is a great business,” and that was very helpful. My goals for 2016 is to receive more clients. I’m
very happy with what I’m doing right now but more clients would be good. What services do you offer? Helping with insurance, organizing paperwork, running errands, taking individuals to the doctor. View the full length interview at www.kdcmag.com
