Blundell’s School and Blundell’s Preparatory School are co-educational throughout and situated on the outskirts of the small market town of Tiverton. They occupy two adjoining sites covering 90 acres, with some shared facilities (e.g. swimming pool, astro-turf pitches and theatre). The Preparatory School caters for day pupils whereas Blundell’s Senior School is a boarding school that provides places for day pupils, flexi, weekly and full boarders. Blundell’s is committed to the boarding ethos and each pupil is assigned to a House. The Preparatory School at Milestones consists of a Nursery, Kindergarten and Pre-Prep (3 – 7 years) and Prep (7-11 years). Blundell’s Senior School is academically organised as 11 to 18 education with a Junior department of School House (11-13 years). There are 215 pupils in the Preparatory School and 575 in the Senior School. Both schools have been inspected in the last twelve months and each was recognised as a school providing an outstanding education. Blundell’s Senior School was graded by OFSTED Inspectors as outstanding in all six categories, a fantastic achievement, the inspectors were told by many pupils and staff how proud they were of their school. At the Blundell’s Preparatory School the ISI Inspectors saw the pupils “enjoying a rich educational experience”. The School was recognised as providing an outstanding education which is a testament to the hard 8

work of the staff and pupils and the support given by the parent body. At the Preparatory School the Nursery builds the essential foundations of a child’s learning and each stage thereafter is a stepping stone onto the Senior School. Pupils learn and flourish in small classes lead by highly motivated teachers. The site has been completely redeveloped and has twelve acres of beautiful grounds for the pupils to use for play and for outdoor educational opportunities. To help working parents there are a huge variety of after school clubs. Andrew Southgate, the Head Master of the Preparatory School, believes that the traditional values of family life are firmly embraced along with a strong academic ethos. These provide a tangible sense of community and a passionate approach towards the development of every child.

Welcome to Blundell’s Ian Davenport
Why is Blundell’s special? Ian Davenport, the Head Master of Blundell’s explains, “At Blundell’s, friendships and relationships formed in our community are at the heart of what is undoubtedly a special school. Strong and supportive relationships, often unheard and unsung, make community life very rewarding here; as W B Yeats reminds us, friendship is extremely important. We work very hard together to ensure strong academic success and good qualifications, but we also believe in a sense of wholeness. Kindness and excellence are not mutually incompatible qualities. Courtesy, humility and good manners are very important values which have proved to be deeply rooted in Blundellians, enriching daily life here whilst also ensuring that visitors and new members of the community feel welcome and at ease. For young people in the 21st century, Blundell’s is also a gateway to a broader national and international perspective. We are continually engaging our pupils with the many exciting initiatives in the dynamic wider educational environment and in so doing, enabling their successful transition into an increasingly complex world.”
Blundell’s is one of the oldest and most significant schools in the West Country, where pupils are exposed to the traditional values and experiences associated with an entire education. The Preparatory School and Senior School are co-educational throughout and situated in 90 acres of rolling Devon countryside.

OYSTER PERPETUAL YACHT-MASTER II As the start draws near, the skipper’s pulse quickens. Already visualizing the action of the race, he manoeuvres as close as possible to the line. The Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master II embodies all of the intense emotion a regatta arouses. By its impressive size, evocative power and sleek design, this unique regatta chronograph echoes directly the Maxi Yachts built to brave the oceans. The new version is the first Professional watch in the Oyster collection to be available in EVEROSE ROLESOR – an exclusive combination of the 904L steel superalloy and 18 ct EVEROSE gold. Sights on the horizon Equipped with a programmable countdown with a mechanical memory, the Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master II is an innovative and pioneering watchmaking complication, based on interaction between the movement and the bezel. It allows the skipper to programme a regatta countdown sequence from 1 to 10 minutes. Once the countdown has been launched, the skipper can, if necessary, synchronize his chronograph to the official race countdown. Thanks to the Yacht-Master II, experienced sailors and yachting enthusiasts have at their disposal an efficient tool to assist in crossing the starting line at the very moment the horn sounds. Regatta meets watchmaking technology With its numerous innovative watchmaking features, the Yacht-Master II model, launched in 2007, is the epitome of the brand’s creative force and technology. Its functions depend on a major innovation: the exclusive RING COMMAND bezel, designed and developed by Rolex. Rotatable through 90° and interacting with the movement, it serves to initialize and then lock the countdown programming.
The model’s 4160 movement, entirely designed and developed by Rolex, is fitted with a PARACHROM hairspring, 10 times more resistant to shocks and insensitive to magnetic fields. The countdown is operated by a column wheel and a vertical clutch. A number of microcomponents in this unique movement are produced by UV-LiGA – a new technology, entirely mastered in-house by Rolex, which enables the production of components whose fineness or geometry makes them impossible to manufacture by traditional means. The Yacht-Master II’s case, stamped from a block of 904L steel extremely resistant to corrosion, offers all the qualities of waterproofness that have made the reputation of Oyster watches. Not least thanks to its TRIPLOCK winding crown, which screws down tightly against the case like the hatch of a submarine. The pink gold of the bezel and the bracelet’s centre links are 18 ct EVEROSE gold, an exclusive alloy developed by Rolex and manufactured in its own foundry. The blue CERACHROM bezel insert, virtually impervious to scratches, corrosion-resistant and nonfading, is also patented and manufactured by Rolex. The excellent legibility of the Yacht-Master II’s dial demonstrates the constant attention to functionality in the Oyster Professional collection. The red countdown minute and seconds hands are readable at a glance against the graduations on the dial or bezel. The bracelet, in 904L steel and 18 ct EVEROSE, is fitted with an EASYLINK 5 mm comfort extension link and an OYSTERLOCK clasp with a safety catch, two further Rolex innovations.
The horn has sounded. The course is set. The Yacht-Master II forges ever forward, sailing towards new horizons.

Naomi Cleaver,
the face of Britannia Lanes Changing Homes campaign
48
Autumn 2011 • Home From Home
Course detail Britannia’s Interior Design Day with Naomi Cleaver will deliver a well-balanced, comprehensive overview of the interior design process, beginning with the best way to plan a project, to thoroughly developing a concept, space planning to selecting fixtures and finishes, electrical plans and plumbing, as well as a short section on building regulations and planning permission. The day will close with Naomi’s ‘top tips’ on how to get the best out of the professions, a lesson never too late to learn – and with daily dealings with trades people, Naomi is well placed to deliver this. “ The day will be interactive with students tasked with ‘mini-projects’ where they will immediately be able to put their newly learned skills to the test,” adds Naomi. Britannia Lanes clients will also have the chance to discuss any ongoing or imminent building and design projects in detail with Naomi on the day.
Chance To Win
At the end of the day students will leave with a signed copy of Naomi Cleaver’s recently published book ‘The Joy of Home’.
Celebrity Interior Design Day with Britannia Lanes Having recently relocated from London to Devon, Naomi has teamed-up with a leading West Country removals and storage company, Britannia Lanes, to be the face of its Changing Homes campaign. During this, Britannia Lanes will offer its customers an interior design master class with Naomi at a prestigious venue – great timing as the South West gets into the full swing of one of the busiest house moving periods of the year. Best known as a television presenter on popular shows such as Grand Designs: Trade Secrets, ‘Honey, I Ruined the House’ and ‘Other People’s Houses’, Naomi Cleaver has been an interior design icon and much loved TV personality for over a decade. Britannia Lanes is offering one customer per depot the chance to gain a place on Naomi’s first ever intimate interior design day – and with spaces limited to only 12 in total, it will be a rare and exclusive treat for the people selected. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be starting my latest venture in the West Country, my new home, and look forward to giving a few of Britannia Lanes customer’s an insight into the compelling world of interior design. As well as looking at the softer side of things, such as colour palettes and materials,
we’ll also be examining practical aspects of planning and building too,” said Naomi. Quite simply, people using one of Britannia Lanes three services – removals, self storage or self drive van hire – during July to September will be in with a chance of winning a master class with Naomi. Guests will also be treated to a two course lunch and cream tea at the luxury hotel. Also, anyone who uses Britannia Lanes online removal price calculator or purchases a home shredding bag online will have the opportunity to get a signed copy of Naomi’s latest book ‘The Joy of Home’. Held at an award-winning Devon hotel, the day will be extra special as it officially launches Naomi’s nationwide series of interior design courses which will run throughout the UK in a variety of locations, from the Design Museum in London to village halls, with occasional ‘gala days’ in beautiful hotels. And with countless successfully completed renovation projects, her recent labour of love a property in East Devon, Naomi has plenty of relevant advice to share on a host of topics – guidance nine out of ten ‘movers’ would welcome, according to a recent poll carried out by the South West based removals and storage firm.
The course is on Saturday 15 October. The winner will be announced on 01 October. For more information please visit www.britannialanes.co.uk.
