Obituary
Mrs. Willie Lee Hardin Roberts was born on July 20, 1916 in Travis County, the first child of Henry and Beulah Thompson Hardin. She departed this life on September 15, 2015. She was the oldest child born to this union which also produced a younger sister, Henrietta, who died as a baby. She lost her father at a young age, due to an illness, and her mother later remarried Smith Overton Sr. To this union, sisters – Norris and Alice Jean, and brothers – Smith Jr. and John C., were born. She grew up in the Creedmoor area and attended Pleasant Valley Schools. She was united in marriage to Louis Vincent Roberts, Sr. on December 26, 1935 and six children were born to this union. At a young age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully and was the Mother of the Church. Although Willie Lee worked various jobs, she spent much of her life as a devoted and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked tirelessly supporting her family by: acting as a taxi driver (picking up grandchildren from school); taking her grandchildren to doctor’s appointments; caring for grandchildren during summers; providing a place to stay when there was a need; keeping a stock of ice cream and watermelon for anybody passing through; providing a listening ear, and most importantlypraying for her family. One of Willie Lee’s most notable achievements was her drive and ambition to return to school and receive her G.E.D. from Reagan High School in 1979. She served as an inspiration to all and illustrated the importance of an education, no matter what your age. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister – Norris Overton Darby, brothers – Smith Overton Jr. and John C. Overton, stepsisters – Lillian Overton Dallas and Myrtle Overton Burse, stepbrothers – Wilke Overton, Eric Overton, and Chester Overton, son – Louis Vincent Roberts Jr., daughter – Mary Alice Roberts Hargrove and grandson – Anthony Louis Roberts.
