Healthcare Courses

There is a global shortage of staff in the healthcare industry. Around the world registered nurses are in short supply and as a result many healthcare providers are offering high rates of pay.

Registered nurses in most Asian countries are able to convert their qualifications and experience to enable them to work as registered nurses in New Zealand and other countries such as Australia, USA and the United Kingdom.

This course is designed for foreign registered nurses who would like to work* as a registered nurse in New Zealand or overseas (e.g. Australia, USA, United Kingdom). Primarily the course is an intensive IELTS and Occuptational English Test (OET) course designed to assist foreign nurses to meet the New Zealand Nursing Council’s English language requirements for registration. (7.0 in all skill areas; speaking, listening, writing and reading for IELTS or a B band in all skill areas for OET) • The course also provides foreign nurses with an orientation to the New Zealand Healthcare system. • There is an opportunity to gain part time work of up to 20 hours per week as a Healthcare Assistant while they are studying. • A 12 week course is available for those at an English level of IELTS 6.5 - 7.0.

King’s unique method of

Assessment & Reporting

...see your improvements week-by-week

• King’s unique method of English assessment and reporting is called King’s English Assessments (KEA). This helps you prepare for the IELTS and OET tests. • Using testing methods similar to IELTS, you will receive an equivalent IELTS type score.

Step 4 English Language Profiles

• At the end of your course you will receive a detailed description of your English level (IELTS equivalent) in the skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. • For ENR you must reach an IELTS of 7.0 or B band in OET. • For ACE you must reach an IELTS of 5.5.

Step 3 Monthly Progress Reports

Step 2 Weekly Assessment & Feedback

Step 1 Entrance Assessment

• You will receive a breakdown of your competencies within each skill area, e.g speaking fluency & topic relevance, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammatical range and accuracy. • This will help you to work out which specific skills you need to improve on.

• Every student is assessed in one skill area each week. • Week 1 - speaking • Week 3 - reading

• Week 2 - listening • Week 4 - writing

• Weekly one-on-one feedback from your teacher who will suggest ways to improve your English in areas that need extra attention.

• A full assessment is provided to determine your level in each skill area. • This helps you decide how long you need to study. • Part of this can be carried out before you come to King’s Education.
