I am thrilled to share with you that King’s School is thriving and well-prepared to face any challenges that may come our way. Our exceptional academic, co-curricular, and pastoral programmes are deeply woven into the fabric of our Foundation community, giving us strength and resilience.
We are proud to receive consistent recognition and prestigious accolades. For the third consecutive year, The Sunday Times’ Parent Power Schools Guide has listed us among the Top Ten Independent Secondary Schools in the West Midlands. Additionally, our outstanding co-educational provision has been recognised as finalists in the Independent SchoolAwards for the second year in a row. However, far more important than these accolades are the trust and confidence shown by the parents and grandparents of our OV community, who choose to entrust their children to King’s.
We were delighted by the achievements of our A-level students last summer, with an impressive 93% achieving grades A*-C and over 85% securing their first-choice university. We also celebrate the successes of our Fifth Formers at GCSE, with 62% of entries receiving grades 9-7 and 40% achieving grades 9 or 8. We eagerly look forward to this summer’s results with great optimism.
King’s lays the foundation for future careers, and we are very grateful for the overwhelming generosity of our OV community for their support with this. Many OVs offer their time and advice at events like our Careers Extravaganza, visit the School, and provide one-on-one support to help our current pupils move on into the world of work.
It has been a wonderful experience to meet so many OVs at events and reunions, including those abroad. We strongly believe that the OV family should never be limited by geographical boundaries.
Those OVs and Friends of the School who regularly contribute to the School’s bursary programme make an indelible impact on the wider Vigornian community, for which we are incredibly grateful. We have also received news of several legacies to King’s included in individuals’ wills this year, and I extend my sincere gratitude to those who choose to remember King’s in this way. Without the generous support of all those who contribute to King’s in various capacities, we would not be able to continue to provide bursarial opportunities for pupils to attend our exceptional school.
I would similarly like to express my deepest gratitude to the King’s School Worcester Development Trust and the Trustees for their unwavering commitment and careful management of every donation. I extend my thanks to all the Trustees, who dedicate their valuable time and expertise at our termly Trust meetings, especially the Trust Chair, Nick Clark, Hannah Edwards, the Chair of the Investment Committee, and Lewis Bryer, the Chair of the Nominations Committee. Despite these challenging economic times, our investments are prudently managed, and the bursaries funded through the Trust remain a vital focus, providing life-changing opportunities for the young individuals who benefit from the generosity of others.
My thanks also to the Alumni Relations team, Hannah, Amanda and Trish, for their invaluable contribution and dedication in engaging with our Vigornian community. Through them, our former pupils keep connected with their School and each other, as well as showcasing the incredible achievements of our Old Vigornians.
Lastly, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all those who give back to the Foundation family by donating their time, expertise, hosting events, and supporting bursaries. Each contribution makes an immense difference in the lives of all Vigornians and strengthens our network further.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support and commitment to our mission. As we look back on the past year, I am pleased to share with you the significant impact your donations have made, and to convey our sincerest appreciation for your continued patronage.
The education of several King’s pupils has been greatly enriched by the remarkable generosity of US-based OV Abbas Kazerooni and others. Their unstinting support has made a lasting impact on the lives of these pupils. We are also grateful for the enduring commitment of OVs John Weston and John Foley and The Kildare Trust, whose promise to fund bursaries at King’s has provided invaluable opportunities.
Your contributions have played a vital role in enabling us to provide bursaries to bright and talented pupils, ensuring that they have access to the exceptional education and opportunities offered at King’s. We take immense pride in the achievements of these pupils, whose lives have been positively transformed because of your generosity.
Your ongoing support is invaluable to us, especially considering the challenges faced by the Independent Schools Sector and the growing demand for bursaries. Your dedication in giving regularly or through one-time donations has made a tangible impact on our ability to provide educational opportunities for local children.
We are also deeply grateful to those who have chosen to leave a lasting legacy through bequests. Your thoughtful and enduring gifts will continue to transform lives for generations to come. Your generosity ensures that King’s remains a beacon of educational excellence, where every aspiring child can thrive, regardless of their financial circumstances. Together, we are making a difference, and opening doors to a brighter future for eligible young individuals.
I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the tireless efforts of the King’s Alumni and Business Development Team in maintaining and nurturing connections with our alumni and friends of the School. Without their dedication, these valuable contributions might have been much more challenging to secure.
Furthermore, I extend my sincere thanks to all my fellow trustees for their commitment and hard work on behalf of The Trust. We are delighted to welcome John Attwater, Tom Dupernex, and Laurie Green as new trustees, while expressing our gratitude to Linton Connell and Leanne Sheen, who having served for several years, have decided to step down. The continued success of the Development Trust relies on the selfless and dedicated stewardship of its trustees, as well as the generosity and enthusiasm of all its donors, and we are truly grateful to each and every one of them.
Once again, thank you for your incredible support. Your belief in our mission and your steadfast commitment are truly inspiring. Together, we are making a profound impact on the lives of deserving individuals and shaping a brighter future for generations of Vigornians to come.

The previous year has once again demonstrated the incredible involvement and enthusiasm of our OV community. The Alumni Team has been delighted to welcome numerous OVs back to the School, and their support has been invaluable in various career and mentoring activities. It has also been a pleasure to see so many OVs attending events such as the New OV BBQ, the 119th Annual OV Reunion Weekend, and gatherings for different year groups.
We are immensely grateful for the support we receive from OVs, parents, and other members of the Vigornian community. Their volunteering, advice, time, and financial contributions make a significant difference. The primary focus of fundraising for the King’s School Development Trust has always been and continues to be providing bursaries for pupils. In our ever evolving and diverse world, it is crucial to open the doors of King’s to support talented and capable young individuals. Just imagine the collective impact we can make by investing in the education of these future leaders, innovators, and changemakers.
Thanks to the generous donations of individuals, we were able to support thirteen bursaries during the year leading up to July 2023. We were also delighted to welcome two pupils to King’s whose places were funded by the generous donation from the Kildare Trust. Each Kildare Bursary provides seven years of fully funded education, offering a remarkable opportunity for these children to benefit from everything King’s has to offer.
The King’s Foundation is dedicated to promoting social inclusivity and social mobility. We strive to be a school that any capable and ambitious child can attend, regardless of their financial circumstances. To achieve this, we rely on the generous support of our Foundation community. Unfortunately, in the past three years, we have had to decline
one out of every three bursary applications due to insufficient funds. Considering the current economic situation and the anticipated challenges in the Independent Schools Sector, we expect the demand for bursaries to continue to exceed the financial support we can currently provide. It is our goal to address this imbalance.
Regular giving is an affordable way to contribute to the Bursary Fund. Small, regular donations quickly accumulate, and your contribution, combined with others, can fund a bursary place. We also welcome one-time donations, and every gift, regardless of its size, is greatly appreciated and goes towards the Bursary Fund. Your gift is an investment in future generations which will reap rewards for many years to come.
We understand that not everyone may be able to donate to the Bursary Fund during their lifetime. Legacy donations are a meaningful and lasting gift. Every bequest, regardless of its size, helps provide access to King’s for future generations.
We need your support to realise our vision. Together, we can open the doors of King’s to future generations.

In 2021, The King’s School Worcester received a generous donation from The Kildare Trust. This donation supports a bursary programme to provide full bursaries for two children in perpetuity. The Kildare Trust, established by farmers and philanthropists Jim and Phyllis Richards – Jim himself was a pupil at The King’s School in the 1920s – supports various local charities which were close to their hearts.
The Partnerships and Outreach Team at King’s works to strengthen the School’s relationships with its local community, focusing on the need to increase social cohesion and integration. The King’s Foundation is committed to enhancing its links with Maintained Schools across the county to create significant relationships for collaborative working and support.
To ensure that the Kildare Trust bursaries were awarded in line with the Trust’s objectives, an extensive outreach programme was implemented. The programme aimed to identify children and families who may not have been aware of potential support. Primary Schools in a specific area were contacted, and information about the bursaries was shared. Local sporting and community organisations were also contacted, asking for their assistance in identifying eligible candidates. The criteria included academic capability, coming from a lowincome family or being a Looked After Child, and residing in Worcestershire, preferably in a rural area.
Numerous responses were received from Headteachers of local schools and parents. In-depth discussions were held with these individuals to assess potential candidates.
Those who met the criteria were invited to participate in the School’s admissions procedure, which included visiting the School, attending Open Days, and taking the entrance exam. Additionally, families were supported through the School’s means-testing process to ensure that they met the financial conditions for bursarial support.
We are pleased to announce that, as a result of the positive response from the local community, two young people from the Worcestershire community were offered places to start in September 2023. These academically capable children will have the opportunity to nurture their interests in drawing, dancing, and music through the School’s extensive cocurricular programme. They will undoubtedly embody the School’s vision to be curious, to be caring and to be confident.
We are grateful to everyone who has supported The King’s School Worcester, whether through volunteering their time, expertise, advice or by donating to the Development Trust. The following people made a gift to the Trust since 1st August 2022. A number of people have asked to remain anonymous. Whilst all care and attention has been taken in drawing up this list, we apologise for any errors or omissions.
