Introduction

Whilst we all enjoy a trip to the cinema, it takes an understanding of the academic discipline of film studies to truly appreciate the cinema as an art form. In each session, you will be introduced to a different aspect of the discipline of film studies, such as considerations of mise-en-scene, auteur theory, montage and genre, each supported with relevant clips from the world’s most influential films. Every session will combine both lecture and debate as we work to gain a better appreciation of the art of film.
