An Activities Convention will be held on Wednesday 4th September 2019 at 4.30pm in the Memorial Hall for pupils to sign up to their chosen activity/activities.

TRINITY COLLEGE SPEECH & DRAMA COACHING 4.30 - 5.25pm, Drama Studio Sessions are delivered to individuals, pairs or small groups in half hour blocks. Ms Grasby arranges times throughout the week to suit each individual. UCAS points are accrued for Grade 6 and above. A charge is made dependent upon the size of the group. (If you want an hourly rate please check with the Bursary how much is charged). Ms Grasby

TENNIS LESSON Tennis Courts Lessons are available every day with Mr Cahill the professional Tennis coach. Lessons can be individual or in pairs and a charge is made dependent upon the number in the group. (If you want an hourly rate please check with the Bursary how much is charged). MODEL UNITED NATIONS 4.30 - 5.30pm, Room H5 No charge. Interested in solving international crises, and the inner workings of geopolitical decisions? At Model UN, we quantum leap into the bodies and minds of delegates from across the world, and debate issues such as the environmental crisis, world terrorism, and human rights abuse as if we were the delegate for the UN. Open to pupils in the 4th Form to 6th Form. PAH

JUNIOR RUGBY

5.45 – 6.45pm, Music School Priority Activity. No charge. The Big Band is one of King’s show case ensembles performing just about anything you can dance to! The band has raised money for both local and national charities, recorded 3 CDs and toured Spain twice. Any pupils who are interested in joining the Big Band should see the Director of Music. OMH

4.30 – 5.30pm, Abbey Playing Fields No charge. For 4th and 5th Form. A chance for another rugby session. BGH

CHAPEL CHOIR

BRASS ENSEMBLE 1.15 - 1.45pm, Music School No charge. This ensemble is open to all brass players. It covers a wide repertoire from Renaissance to present day. Mr Bertie

NETBALL 3.45 – 4.45pm, Abbey Courts No charge. 4th and 5th Form aimed at squad players preparing for the county tournament. BG/AI

4.30 – 5.25pm, Music School No charge. Both the Chapel Choir and Chamber Choir are open to pupils who are successful at audition. Any pupils who are interested in joining should see the Director of Choral Music. AJM

GIRLS’ CHAMBER CHOIR 3.45 – 4.15pm, Music School No charge. To develop the choral skills for those who may wish to join the Chapel and Chamber Choirs in the future. The repertoire will predominantly be light-hearted, i.e pop songs. It is open to any lower school girl, even if they do not have singing lessons. IRB


TUESDAY OULTONIAN SOCIETY 5.45 – 6.45pm, Clubroom @ The Chapel No charge. This is for keen students of English Literature in the 5th and 6th Form. We discuss a wide range of fantastic texts that go beyond the curriculum, enriching and broadening literary horizons. Named in honour of CHM Oulton. This activity will run every other week. RMH

SILVER DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD WALKING AND CYCLING 4.30 - 5.25pm, Room O1 Pupils may look to pursue their Duke of Edinburgh Award. A weekly activity slot in school gives pupils the required time to plan and review expeditions and to make progress with their online profiles. Places on Duke of Edinburgh are limited due to logistical limitations. Open to 5th Form pupils. TEAL

FLUTE ENSEMBLE 10.30 – 11.00pm, Music School No charge. This ensemble is open to all flautists. Mrs Arcoleo

MUSIC THEORY 1.15 – 1.45pm, Music School £50 per term. Any pupils who wish to take music theory should see the Director of Music. Mrs Jenkinson

TOUCH TYPING 4.30 – 5.30pm, Room S2 £20.00 per term. Maximum 10 pupils. Come and learn to touch - type using the multisensory Touch Type Read and Spell programme, as endorsed by the British Dyslexia Association. Use these sessions to develop your typing speed and accuracy so that you can type more quickly and efficiently. EKP

4.30 – 5.25pm, Fitzjames Theatre No charge. Film Club is for those who have a passion for film – pure and simple. We meet in the theatre and watch films on the big screen. All welcome. Film Club is the perfect balance from all that hard brain and body work; come along relax and let yourself be transported into the wonderful, magical, world of film. MSK

WINTER CRICKET PROGRAMME 5.30 – 6.30pm, Sports Hall No charge. Junior session. LCOG

CHAMBER CHOIR 4.30 - 5.20pm, Music Department No charge. An auditioned choir of the best singers at King’s who perform a variety of music and have taken part in regional competitions. AJM

SKATEBOARDING AND SCOOTERING 4.30 – 6.00pm, Local Skate Parks No charge. A fun activity getting the pupils outside and taking part in something that is a physical and at times, strenuous. Pupils will have to provide a skateboard or scooter and a helmet is absolutely compulsory. Parental permission will be required to take part in this activity. Please note there may be an occasional late return. MKJ

KARATE 4.45 – 5.45pm, John Davie Room £5.00 per session. We study a form of Karate called Washinkai which is based on the form of Wado Ryu. Pupils will learn a variety of techniques including kicks, punches, locks, holds and throws. Karate is not and has never been about violence and pupils learn how Karate can be used in self-defence. We will also be entering pupils into competitions and hopefully in the future sending pupils to England Squad training. PE kit is more than adequate to start with; Karate suits, membership and grading fees are extra. Mr Hacker

GOLF 5.00 – 6.30pm £8 For 9 Holes. A twilight 9 holes at the unique Bullpits Golf Club, Wincanton (until half term). For experienced golfers. Mr Cahill

TEN TORS 4.30 – 5.25pm, DT Department No charge. For pupils in the 4th Form who are to preparing for this fantastic team challenge. IRB


WEDNESDAY WIND QUINTET

ORCHESTRA

1.40 – 2.15pm, Music School No charge. The Wind Quintet is aimed for the more advanced pupils and is by invitation only. IRB

5.45 – 6.45pm, Music School Priority Activity. No charge. The Orchestra tackles a variety of works. Any pupils who are interested in joining the orchestra should see the Director of Music. OMH

CLARINET ENSEMBLE 10.00 - 11.00am, Music School No charge. This ensemble is open to all clarinettists. Mr Lambton

SOCCER 4.45 – 5.45pm, Abbey Field No charge. Come and improve your soccer skills, open to all years (to start after half term). Mr Cahill

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE 1.40 – 2.15pm, Caroline Corr Percussion Room No charge. This ensemble is open to all percussionists. Mr Jobbins

MILITARY BAND 4.30 – 5.30pm, Music School No charge. The Military Band is both a marching band and also a very competent concert band. Sounding the Retreat and marching through Bruton on Remembrance Sunday are some of the band’s highlights and in the past has performed for Royalty and marched in the Lord Mayor’s Show. Any pupils who are interested in joining the Band should see the Director of Music. Mr Lambton

CERAMICS 4.30 – 5.30pm, Art Department £20.00 per term. For 3rd Form to join a ceramics club. SMH

FITZJAMES FORUM 4.30 – 5.30pm, History Department No charge. Films, debates, lectures, historical food plus trips to local historical sites. 4th Form upwards. TF/GCB

JUDO 6.00 – 7.00pm, Hazlegrove £10 per session. An introduction to this popular martial art. Pupils will be taught in small groups and will be paired with a partner of similar standard. Beginners welcome. Experienced pupils have the opportunity to compete in the National Schools’ Championships. (Transport will be provided). Mr Gleeson

SAXOPHONE ENSEMBLE 10.30 – 11.00am, Music School No charge. This ensemble is open to all saxophonists. Mr Lambton

4.30 – 5.25pm, JCR No charge. Snacks, fun and engaging thought over the biggest questions of life. GCB

TEMPERANCE 7 1.45 - 2.15pm, Music School No charge. This ensemble is in a New Orleans style of Jazz, any pupils in the 4th – 6th Form who wish to join should see the Director of Music. AJM

4.30 – 5.25pm, Fitzjames Hall £10 per term. An exciting programme of activities to introduce pupils to CCF; pupils commit to join for the academic year. Activities include shooting, climbing, obstacle courses, orienteering, escape and evasion, raft building techniques and numerous team activities amongst others. CAB

THE DOLPHIN SCHOOL CHOIR 5.45 – 6.45pm, Music School Priority activity. No charge. A choir for all who enjoy singing a variety of music from pop and jazz to sacred music. The Choir is open to any pupil who enjoys singing and that’s about 20% of the pupils at King’s! A wide variety of repertoire is performed. Any pupils who are interested in joining the Choir should see the Director of Music. AJM

INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE 4.30 – 5.20pm, John Davie Room No charge. The international pupils will have the opportunity to actively contribute to international pupil life at King's, publish their own newsletter and share and exchange cultural experiences. NCC

4.00 - 5.00pm, Dining Room No charge. An opportunity for 6th Form pupils to be involved with publishing the school magazine. NW
