ACTIVITIES CHOICES Summer Term 2021 Key 3rd Form pupils should choose a minimum of three activities per week. 4th Form pupils should choose a minimum of three activities per week. 5th Form pupils should choose a minimum of one activity per week. 6th Form pupils are encouraged to choose a minimum of one activity per week. An Activities Convention will be held on Wednesday 21st April 2021 from 4.15pm in the Memorial Hall for pupils to sign up to their chosen activity/activities. 3rd Form 4.15pm, 4th Form 4.45pm & 5th Form 5.10pm, 6th Form 5.30pm.

Drama Studio

To encourage and develop performance and communication skills for all levels and year groups. Coaching is delivered by Ms Grasby at a convenient time during the week, sessions can be individual, in pairs or small groups in half hour blocks. UCAS points are accrued for Grade 6 and above. A charge is made dependent upon the size of the group. Ms Grasby

Lessons are available every day with Mr Forder, the professional Tennis coach. Lessons can be individual or in pairs and a charge is made dependent upon the number in the group. Monologue and Duologue Evening Priority Activity Two evenings of monologue and duologue performances. Choose your own monologue or duologue, to rehearse and perform at the end of term. There will be help provided to choose a piece for you if required. We will work through rehearsal techniques each week in separate groups to ensure social distancing can be maintained. Diversity Discussions Every Monday the 6th Form can gather in the social area of the 6FC to discuss different and difficult topics which relate to diversity in the world, from racism, gender, pro-life and much more. It will give you an opportunity to have informed conversations and discussion whilst being respectful of other people’s views. Anyone is welcome to sign up or drop in. KRH

Forum & Focus Cakes, chocolate and cans of drink alongside fun games and time thinking through some of life’s biggest questions from the Bible. Everyone welcome (from believers to atheists). You can be as involved or uninvolved as you want. You will not be asked to do anything or say anything. Open to 6th Form. GCB

The Microscopic World Around Us Have you ever wondered what lives in the cracks and crevices of your life? Can you imagine what that stuff under your nails looks like? What does a bee’s toe, or a butterfly’s scales look like? This (and anything else you can think of!) can be examined up to 1000 times larger than life in this workshop. You will learn how to use a range of digital and optical light microscopes and how to prepare samples of natural and synthetic nature. Priority will be given to GCSE scientists with an interest in microbiology or medicine and places are limited to 6 pupils. TAB

Italian Open to anybody who may consider an extra GCSE - no prior knowledge of the language necessary. NCC

Horse Riding At Pevlings Farm Riding and Livery Stables. Beginners and experienced riders welcome. Individual and group lessons available. Hard hats are generally not being lent but can be on the understanding the rider acknowledges that they do this at their own risk. Maximum group size 5 riders. AJG

Oultonian Society This is for keen students of English Literature in the 5th and 6th Form. We discuss a wide range of fantastic texts that go beyond the curriculum, enriching and broadening literary horizons. Named in honour of CHM Oulton. This activity will run in week B only. MSJH/GM

19th Century Literature Broaden your understanding of English through intense discussion of some of its most influential and important texts. Classic tomes such as Frankenstein, War and Peace and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn can be daunting at first glance, but incredibly rewarding once mastered. A reading group can be just the motivating force necessary to help you conquer these several-hundred-page behemoths, so challenge yourself with this activity and see what all the fuss is about. Open to 6th Form, this activity will run in week A only. DJE

Beginners Silversmithing Pupils will learn the basic silversmithing skills to be able to create some beautiful pieces of work. We will be working with a variety of metals to start off with, moving on quickly to real sterling silver (.925). Projects could be bangles, rings, pendants, earrings, dog tags and more. Pupils will learn how to use the tools needed to work with silver including using the piercing saw, texturing hammer, letter stamps and how to file and polish. Open to 3rd Form pupils. NW

Girls’ Chamber Choir (4th Form) To develop choral skills for those who may wish to join the Chapel and Chamber Choirs in the future. The repertoire will predominantly be lighthearted, i.e pop songs. It is open to any 4th Form girl, even if they do not have singing lessons. IRB

Chapel Choir (4th and 5th Form) The Chapel Choir sing at the weekly School Service and perform in a Cathedral or Abbey Church once a term. The Chapel Choir is open to 5th Form pupils who are successful at audition. Any pupils who are interested in joining the Chapel Choir should see the Director of Music. AJM

Big Band - PRIORITY ACTIVITY The Big Band is one of King’s show case ensembles performing just about anything you can dance to! The band has raised money for both local and national charities, recorded 3 CDs and toured Spain twice. Any 5th or 6th Form pupils who are interested in joining the Big Band should see Mr Higgs.

Art Enrichment All creative abilities welcome… Art Enrichment is an inclusive and collaborative series of workshops exploring a wide range of environmental topics and sustainable practices. We will be exploring the theme of ‘Water’ and looking to experiment with a wide range of media such as: light projections, photography, sound recordings, printing, casting, etc. Our aim will be to create collaborative artworks for a Summer Term exhibition to celebrate all creative endeavours. Also, trips to Hauser & Wirth, Sturminster Newton Heritage Trust, and a range of dynamic workshops from leading contemporary artists will provide alternative voices, ideas, and an opportunity to learn new skills. Open to 4th & 5th Form.

Meditation For beginners and more experienced meditators this is an opportunity to learn, practise and explore the topic of Meditation in depth. There will be full instruction in two classic and ancient meditation techniques. The sessions will involve teaching the practices, as well as exploring topics such as what hinders meditation and the effect of a regular meditation practice on our general well-being. There will be some instruction followed by a chance to practise in the session. Finally, we will discuss, explore, and share ideas and experiences, over a cup of Green Tea. MSK

Rock Band (6th Form) For any pupils who want to play in a band and learn more about the industry. Pupils will enjoy jamming together as much as possible and will be introduced to recording in a studio. Mr Tupman
