Numbers of Activities for each year group:

3rd Form pupils choose a minimum of three activities per week.

4th Form pupils choose a minimum of three activities per week.

5th Form pupils choose a minimum of one activity per week.

6th Form pupils are encouraged to choose a minimum of one activity per week.

Choices will be made at the Activities Convention on Tuesday 3rd September 2024

Bruton Bimbles

An opportunity to explore the local area finding out about the History and Geography of Bruton.

Textiles Club

An opportunity to learn how to use a sewing machine and learn various Textile techniques such as gathering, free-hand embroidering and appliqué. Small mini outcomes will be produced for pupils to take away with them.

Enterprise Activity - Charity Fundraiser (Open to all but Maximum 3 teams and no more than one per year group)

Design, run and manage a stall at the King’s Bruton Christmas Fayre in December. Not only will it be yuletide fun and raise money for charity but it will also enhance your CV/uni applications.

Ten Tors

This is the training activity for the selected group of 4th Form pupils to develop their skills and work towards making the team and taking part in the Ten Tors 35-mile challenge in May 2025. Pupils must be doing CCF on Friday afternoons. CAB

3D Printing Club

Learn, develop and grow your Fusion 360 software skills and with it your 3D printing knowledge and ability. Tuition, help and the freedom to design and 3D print your own creations and ideas.

An opportunity to share ideas and give direction to the equality, diversity and inclusion work at King’s Bruton. Meeting fortnightly on a Tuesday Week B.

Chapel Choir

The Chapel Choir sing at the weekly School Service and perform in a Cathedral or Abbey Church once a term. The Chapel Choir is open to all pupils who are successful at audition. Any pupils interested in joining the Chapel Choir should see the Director of Music AJM

Netball Training

Open to all age groups – any keen netball players welcome. Excellent opportunity for those who are training in preparation for the U14 and U16 counties or just those who wish to get back on the court before our season begins after Christmas. As we will be on the courts this Tuesday activity will only run for half a term (until the clocks go back and we lose the light).

Come along to the LS department and practise your study/revision skills so you can do your best in tests and exams. By invitation, only, the activity will include games and snacks.

Oultonian Society

This is for keen pupils of English Literature in the 5th & 6th Form. We discuss a wide range of fantastic texts that go beyond the curriculum, enriching and broadening literary horizons. This activity will be run every other week.

Pupils will be looking into different building techniques as well as glazes and slips. SMH

ISPC Action Air Target Activity

An introduction to competitive, dynamic target shooting. Over the term you will learn the necessary skills to be able to enter national and international competitions in this challenging form of target shooting. Numbers are limited.

A comfortable, girls-only session that offers an opportunity for girls to build their confidence in the gym. This activity is open to experienced gym goers, beginners and everyone in between. An opportunity to explore the medium of Photography, open to all abilities. Pupils will be able to develop their photography skills both in and out of the studio, be introduced to the darkroom. We will begin to build a digital portfolio and respond to the theme of ‘Identity & Disguise’.

Eco-Committee

The Eco-Committee is a group of individuals that work towards environmental projects around the school. Building on being awarded the Eco-School Green Flag award in 2022, we have continued to develop a greener and more caring landscape at King’s. As well as rewilding areas of the school campus and campaigning to reduce the food waste produced in the Dining Room, the Eco-Committee are committed to making the school as green as possible.

Mindfulness

Would you like to have an hour in your week when you are able to stop, relax and reflect on what has happened during your day? Each week we will be looking at different ways that we can practice being mindful, from bullet journaling to colouring, crafting to nature walks and mindful breathing. A yummy snack and good music are also provided each week. All welcome however the activity will take place in year groups. RGL

Beginners’ Silversmithing

Pupils will learn the basic silversmithing skills to be able to create some beautiful pieces of work. We will be working with a variety of metals to start off with, moving on quickly to real sterling silver (.925). Projects include making bangles, rings, pendants, earrings, dog tags and more. Pupils will learn how to use the tools needed to work with silver including using the piercing saw, texturing hammer, letter stamps and how to file and polish. Open to 3rd, 4th and 5th Form pupils. Max 10 pupils. NW
