KING'S BRUTON HEADLINES Christmas Term 2020
King's Bruton paused to remember the former pupils and masters of the School who served and gave their lives during WWI, WWII, the Korean War and Afghanistan War. Jeevan (3rd Form, Blackford House) laid a wreath.
150 years ago, the Headmaster of King's, D.E. Norton, presented a book at Speech Day to Clement Newsham Trotman, a prize for Mathematics. This book has recently turned up in a bookshop in Saratoga Springs, USA, bought by Alexander Apicella for a member of his family.
The U6th Form bubble sang Christmas carols under the Christmas Tree on the Memorial Hall Lawn.
King's is an ancient institution of learning, with a strong community, where lifelong friends and memories are made. This is evident in the number of current pupils who are descendents of Old Brutonians, with some being third generation Brutonians.

News from the Theatre...
The School Play became a radio play with the cast being the Sixth Form bubble. Rehearsals for ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ were in the recording studio, and pupils enjoyed experimenting with accents and characterisation, with the focus being on their voice rather than dramatic movement.
School Concerts have been livestreamed and recorded this term. Pupils have performed in their year group bubbles. The 4th Form Concert, the A-Level Musicians Teatime Concert, the New Musicians’ and Award Holders’ Concert, the Winter Concert and the Carol Service. Pupils gave wonderful performances at all of these.

Sports News...
Despite the restrictions in place and difficulties surrounding sport in general, it has been a hugely successful term of sport with pupils showing outstanding enthusiasm, skill levels, effort and overall engagement with the opportunities on offer. In July, we enjoyed a socially distant cricket match with 25 local current King's Bruton pupils, future pupils and a few others to who also wished to play. At the start of term we were able to have cricket and hockey fixtures vs Warminster, Marlborough and Millfield. This all contributed to an enjoyable term of sport at King's and a huge well done to both pupils and staff alike.

Life in the Houses...
Despite having to live in bubbles, wear masks and having matches and trips cancelled, pupils have had a great term in their Houses. There are always lots of activities on offer including go-karting and zorbing, and the Houses even opened their own Tuck Shops when access to the High Street was curtailed during lockdown 2.0.
