KING'S BRUTON H EADLINES “A small historical bastion of a school that is absolutely booming in the 21st century” (The Good Schools Guide)
Merry Christmas from King's Bruton
Christmas Term 2022
I am delighted that trying to summarise into a few words, the highlights of this Christmas Term is so challenging, given how busy and successful the pupils have been. From the Headmaster’s Essay Society to rugby matches, from the amazing school musical ‘Six: Teen Edition’ to fun House nights, from Ten Tors training to the CCF Dinner, from nineteen pupils being confirmed by the new Bishop of Bath and Wells, to hockey success, the variety and quality on offer for the pupils, only made possible by our dedicated staff, has been extraordinary. I was honoured to be invited to address the Old Brutonian London Lunch at Apothecaries’ Hall last week. The interest and affection from the 130 OBs present for King's was evident, and I outlined the successes and developments taking place at the School. It is with great sadness that we heard of the tragic deaths of Peter Jenkins OB (New 2014-19) and his father Mark, in a light airplane crash in Kenya. The School is a tight-knit community, and this loss affects us deeply and our thoughts and prayers are with Peter’s mother Clare, and Peter’s brother, Myles (New 2013-18).
The School community came together for the whole school photograph
I wish everyone in the School community a peaceful, safe, and enjoyable Christmas, and I look forward to welcoming the pupils and staff back in January for an exciting 2023.

Sports News... It has been a highly successful term of sport at King's, both from a performance and participation perspective. The rugby teams have produced some excellent performances and the 1st XV were named team of the term following their impressive season, which included them using a large pool of players to cope with injuries along the way. It was also great to see the U15As embark on an exciting cup run. On the hockey front, it was another pleasing season, which also saw the U16 girls prove themselves to be one of the best in the country, both indoor and outdoor. Our football has also taken another step in the right direction with some muchimproved performances and results, as well as playing in the correct manner. Equally, the badminton players keep improving and it was wonderful to see them enjoy many fixtures this term, and there remains the positive foundation on which to continue to build upon. Finally, the Health-Related Fitness Programme continues to engage pupils with physical activity, and it has been fantastic to see the progress that so many pupils have made with their fitness this term. As well as the games programme, we have seen competitive and exciting inter-house competitions in Badminton, Football, Hockey as well as the inclusive and enjoyable swimming gala. None of the above would be possible without the commitment, enthusiasm and energy of the fantastic staff who all continue to give so much to sport at King's Bruton.
