KING'S BRUTON H EADLINES Easter Term 2022

“A small historical bastion of a school that is absolutely booming in the 21st century” (The Good Schools Guide)

This has been the first normal school term for two years, and it has been poignant that it was straight after the Spring Concert in 2020 that we all went into the first lockdown and, as I write, we are preparing to welcome parents to the Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall for our 2022 Spring Concert.

Lyon House won the Inter-House Debating Competition

The Easter Term is always very busy, and it has been great to get the rhythm of the School back to normality. Exam pupils have been focusing on their mock exams with the realisation that external exams, albeit slightly modified, will very likely take place next term. Besides all the outstanding extra-curricular activities, the boys and girls are working very hard with their teachers to ensure that they reach their academic potential. It has been veryThe good to resume musical concerts, with a thoroughly enjoyable Headmaster’s Swing into Spring evening in the Memorial Hall, which followed on Reflections from an excellent black tie Sixth Form Formal Dinner. Our two Ten Tors teams have practised effectively on Dartmoor, while the silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh groups have resumed practices for their summer expeditions. The final assembly of this Easter Term will be busy giving out prizes and colours, and this outstanding sporting year, across all ages, continues with excellent hockey, netball, cross-country and equestrian performances.

Sixth Form pupils enjoyed a wonderful Formal Dinner

I am delighted with the generous response from the whole school community to the Ukrainian School in a Bag charity appeal, but I know we all hope that over Easter, peace will prevail in that troubled corner of Europe. Best wishes to the whole King's community for a safe and restful Easter holidays. Ian Wilmshurst - Headmaster. Exciting times for the King's Foundation... Bruton School for Girls has joined King's Bruton and Hazlegrove Prep School as a third school in our Foundation.

Sports News... It has been another successful term for our sports teams, both in terms of performance levels, and also the huge numbers of pupils participating and representing the School. I continue to feel proud of the way that our pupils conduct themselves on the field of play and the excellent leadership and guidance they receive from their sports coaches. We are very fortunate to have a staff common room who fully buy into the sports programme and the results are clear to see. We have hockey teams reaching the latter stages of National competitions, our netballers consistently punch well above their weight and have produced some sensational performances and results. Our rugby 7s team performed fantastically at the Mount Kelly 10s, whilst our crosscountry runners saw individuals compete at the Somerset, South West and English Schools’ Championships. Our health related fitness programme goes from strength to strength with a large number of pupils engaging and taking a genuine interest in their physical conditioning. It has also been wonderful to see our table tennis players have the opportunity to represent the School, whilst football was offered as a games option to the senior girls. As much as our success is evident in the results of our high performing teams, the inclusivity of our sports programme is an equally important success criteria. Henry Eriksson - Director of Sport
