KING'S BRUTON H EADLINES Summer Term 2021

Welcome to this edition of Headlines at the end of this very successful Summer term, in a strange year. It has been wonderful to have the School functioning pretty much as normal this term, and I am grateful to all the pupils and staff for their flexibility and the mature attitude they have shown when faced with all the changes imposed on us.

U6th Form Leavers’ Formal Dinner

You can see for yourself the many achievements and varied activities that have been highlights of this term. What you can’t see is the amazing support that the boys and girls have been given by all the King's staff. In turn we, the staff, have benefited hugely from our pupils good cheer and positive outlook throughout this term. We were very fortunate to finish the term with a wonderful U6th Form Formal Dinner in the Memorial Hall, followed by the Leavers’ Service and Prizegiving, outside in Old House Yard. It was a fitting way to say goodbye to both our U6th Form Leavers, and to Old House as a boarding house.

U6th Form leavers, becoming Old Brutonians

The summer holiday will be busy with exam samples to be sent off, exam results day and the quarantine to organise, but we all certainly deserve a rest over the coming weeks after such a busy and successful term. The

Performing Arts...

With the restrictions imposed upon rehearsals and mixing of year groups, it was decided that a Sixth Form radio play would replace the annual whole school production. The cast and crew worked incredibly hard to produce Arsenic and Old Lace

The Summer term of sport has been hugely successful with the return of inter-school sport and live games sessions, and it has been wonderful to see some level of ‘normality’ resume. Our cricket and tennis teams have enjoyed a full fixture card and it was wonderful to see a number of our athletes competing so well at the county championships. The equestrian team has, quite simply, been outstanding, becoming national champions. The term also ended with some fantastic news as Anya Evans was selected to represent Somerset in the steeplechase at the English Schools’ Athletics Championships in Manchester. We were delighted to be able to play some hockey, rugby and netball fixtures to make up for ‘lost’ seasons. We are very hopeful and excited for a full return to sport in September.

Community Service...

A busy and rewarding Mental Health Awareness Week

Well done to all the Community Service warriors who really stepped up this year to ensure we provided a service for those Bruton Residents who really needed us, in a year that has greatly challenged us all
