Our award-winning Global Internships Programme is a key part of the International Strategy, developing highly employable graduates who are insightful, globally aware, confident and self-directed learners. Since 2016 we have expanded our capacity to provide hundreds of students each year with access to international internships hosted by dynamic and engaging employers, creating a costeffective way for our partners to meet human resource needs while developing a talent pipeline.

Global Internships Programme

Internships are a great way to trial-run prospective employees

Our global partnerships are a defining characteristic of the King’s Experience.

Since the founding of the Global Internships Programme, our international internships have helped King’s students grow and flourish worldwide. King’s is passionate about connecting students with employers on a global scale, and we have developed an award-winning model* that allows you to bring talented and productive students into your workplace with ease and efficiency.

The Global Internships Programme provides: • A free of charge service for employers to access motivated and ambitious students who are willing and able to travel internationally and explore careers outside the UK • Interns available to start anytime between the first week of June and the first week of July, lasting 2-3 months in total • A large talent pool of undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a wide range of skills and language abilities • A globally aware team, who are focused on your hiring needs and familiar with your culture and visa requirements

• Administrative support and assurance that nominated candidates have the required skills and capabilities as prescribed by you • Application management, screening and shortlisting service for all potential candidates • Promotion of your internship by our internal marketing team to a target audience based on your needs • Comprehensive support and guidance for students in advance of their departure, ensuring they are sufficiently equipped for their internship overseas

International Partners

Many of our internships are offered by alumni or recruiters who find it rewarding to maintain a relationship with King’s. We also welcome large multinationals, world-leading organisations and charities to the programme, due to the recruitment opportunities they facilitate, as well as smaller organisations who are keen to experience the kind of dynamic cultural, academic, and professional exchange that a student intern can provide.

Suitable internships

Although every internship offers a unique experience, it is expected that they will comprise the following common elements:

Key Stages

Our selection process works in two stages. Firstly, to assist in the shortlisting process, you will define your selection criteria through close collaboration, taking your business needs into consideration. Our team will then shortlist applications against the criteria you have provided and pass the strongest candidates on to you to interview and offer. The vacancy will be advertised across King’s, ensuring maximum exposure for your organisation to our internationally minded cohort.

All students should receive a short induction, ensuring they are able to effectively integrate into your working culture.

We are passionate about the creation and impact of our knowledge and how, in partnership, we can apply this to real challenges. Global Internships Programme Employer Interactions As an employer, there are many ways that you can reach King’s body of over 30,000 students and an even larger alumni network. There are activities to increase awareness of your employer brand and promote opportunities to join your organisation. Posting Job Adverts Post free job adverts on King’s CareerConnect, our online careers portal used by students and recent graduates. Plasma Screens Reach around 3,000 students every day by advertising on our plasma screens. Targeted Emails Target specific groups of students by faculty, nationality or other criteria to inform them about an upcoming event or opportunity.

Virtual Presentations International employers based overseas can interact with our students 1-on-1 or in a webinar. On Campus Engagement Engage with King’s students in person at large events such as Careers Fairs, Employer Presentations and Discover Insights Panels. Smaller group activities such as Career Cafés and Employer Promotions provide an informal setting where employers are able to network with prospective applicants.

Global Employer Relations

Our staff will work with you to develop your internship specification, helping to define the internship offer and assist in the management, administration and recruitment of the application process.

You will be asked to complete a short application, which will be used to ensure we get the best possible applicant pool for your opportunity. We will then serve as the first line of your recruiting team, accepting applications and answering initial questions on your behalf. After the closing date, we give you access to the shortlisted applicants to enable you to select your ideal candidate(s) and make an offer.
