Level 2 Floor Plan

Level 3 Floor Plan METa is a design arts university located in Detroit, Michigan. The proposed project inhabits the historic Dry Docks Complex, an abandoned former ship manufacturing and storage warehouse. METa intends to take advantage of one of many inexpensive, abandoned properties and cultivate growth within the city’s population, a few decades after an economicrelated mass exodus. Detroit is a well-renowned artist and musician hotspot, making it an ideal location for an educational design institute. Ideally the students and faculty at METa would draw inspiration from the culturally and artistically rich city, and use their design education to help improve and facilitate the growth of Detroit.

METa Metropolitan School of Design Arts || Prof. Linda Zimmer || Fall 2018 - Spring 2019

METa is designed to be an accessible and inclusive academic institution that focuses on collaboration and exposure between different design fields. By emphasizing large, shared spaces and creating a central core circulation, the atmosphere and culture of social hierarchy and elitism between students of different design fields, as well as between students and faculty, is greatly reduced. The spaces that are meant to be shared by all students and faculty are: the student designer store, gallery, cafe, pin-up rooms, printing facilities, labs, and workshops. The utilization of these shared facilities is meant to create a positive, collaborative studio culture where everyone feels passionate, motivated, and heard.

VINYL Boutique Hotel and Bar is located at 322 Main St., in Springfield, Oregon, neighboring the Washburne Cafe. The design concept for this boutique hotel remodel is to explore the different levels of social intimacy and interactions. It is a modern take on some of the design ideas and styles from the 1970’s, with a focus on simple, honest expression of sustainable materials, and custom-designed furnishings and light fixtures inspired by pieces of the past.

12th Floor: Management

LNDBRG

Apparel made to inherit. || Prof. Cem Kayatekin || Fall 2017

11th Floor: Production

LNDBRG by Darla Lindberg is a high-end clothing brand that focuses on timeless fashion, long-term wear and use of garments, and silhouettes from vintage fashion design. The proposed garment factory is located on the 11th and 12th floor of 38 W 15th Ave in Manhattan, NY, located in the historical garment district. The workspace can hold from 20-45 employees, and can be used for both assembly line work and piecework. The 11th floor is dedicated to production, prototyping, shipping, and subletting space. The 12th floor holds a flexible workspace for

Darla and her team, a conference space, a kitchen and lounge for the whole factory, and can easily be transformed into an event space. Located on the 1st floor is the pop-up shop, to be used by LNDBRG for various pop-up events, as well as a rental space for other pop-ups. Like LNDBRG fashion designs, the factory space is minimalistic, influenced by timeless European styles and furnishings, with durable and environmentally friendly materials. The space itself is meant to reflect, but not overwhelm, the simplicity and quality of LNDBRG clothing.
