As a founding member of the Class of 2029 at

KIPP STRIVE Primary, Nikirrah will be supported by her family, as well as the teachers and staff at her school, the staff on our regional team, the school

systems with which we partner, the board members who guide our growth and sustainability, and the numerous supporters who believe in our mission.

The mission of KIPP Metro Atlanta is to equip students with the

academic skills, scholarly habits, and character traits necessary to be successful in top quality colleges and the competitive world beyond.

Everyone on our team is united by our mission and by KIPP’s unique Commitment to Excellence. Before school

began, staff from KIPP STRIVE Primary met with review the pledge they would make together—

along with all KIPP Metro Atlanta teachers, staff, and board members—to ensure a successful path to college. Nikirrah committed to positive behaviors that will make her successful in school such as following the school values and doing her homework. Nikirrah’s mom committed to ensuring Nikirrah arrives at school on time each

and calls the teacher if there are problems with homework. The teachers at KIPP STRIVE Primary pledged to being fully prepared to teach their students and parents when needed. And behind the scenes, the Board of Directors, Committee members, Advisory Boards, committed funders, and dedicated staff pledged to work tirelessly to continue to drive the organization forward. At KIPP Metro Atlanta, all team members do their part to guide Nikirrah and her teammates on their climb to and through college.

Nikirrah’s climb to and through college will be a complete k-12 KIPP experience.

Nikirrah will progress through KIPP STRIVE Primary school as it adds

a grade each year, continuing to KIPP STRIVE Academy Middle School for grades five through eight, and then to KIPP Atlanta Collegiate for high school. To ensure more students have access to this seamless

KIPP education, KIPP Metro Atlanta is opening KIPP Vision Primary in 2013, and in 2014 we hope to open KIPP WAYS Primary. This primary and middle school campus model provides students a consistent

experience from kindergarten through eighth grade with an aligned curriculum and culture that will continue when they transition to high school. Along with KIPP South Fulton Academy, we will be a region of eight schools serving more than 3,300 students.

Our vision is to partner with school districts in Metro Atlanta to increase the number of college graduates and to change the mindset of what is possible in public education by investing in the growth and development of students, teachers, and school leaders.

For Nikirrah to be successful on this long-term journey, her teachers have a clear roadmap to guide their work.

One Promise.

At KIPP, we know that with structured supports to and through college, Nikirrah and her teammates will reach graduation day.

At KIPP Metro Atlanta, the promises we make to children are

sacred. We are wholly focused on ensuring that our students

will get to and through college, and ultimately be successful in life. The KIPP Through College program provides students and their families with the essential knowledge and preparation

needed for success in college. The KIPP Through College team

supports more than 600 students by developing relationships with our alumni’s high schools, providing tutoring and

homework assistance, coordinating college tours and college fairs, and hosting workshops to help our students effectively navigate the college application and selection process.

Nationally, KIPP has forged partnerships at more than a dozen colleges and universities committed to reserving spaces for

qualified KIPP students, providing financial aid assistance, as

well as counseling and guidance services. KIPP also maintains a national alumni database that tracks all of its alumni. KIPP

students can use the database to make connections with KIPP peers at their colleges and universities. 5

Tanaya Smith, Spelman College graduate, sixth grade math teacher, and grade level chair at KIPP WAYS Academy, is an alumna of KIPP Academy in the Bronx, New York.

What does this support actually look like for our students? Asha, an alumna from KIPP South Fulton Academy, endured a challenging high school experience that could have easily resulted in her dropping out of school. The KIPP Through College team supported her through that journey and will continue to support her through college.

“I lost both my mother and my grandmother during high

school. I also struggled to find a place to live and ended up

having to transfer to four high schools in four years. The KIPP

Through College team helped me through each school transfer process. They paid the fees for the online coursework I needed

to make-up missed credits. They continued to work with me as I sought and gained admission to Jackson State University in

Mississippi. They also celebrated with me when I graduated in the top 10% of my class. I am so thankful for the assistance I received over the years, and even today, from my KIPP

Through College Team and Family. The staff supports me like a family, giving me the help and strength to persevere.
