CONSERVATION OF MOMBASA OLD TOWN The character of Mombasa city is often shaped not only by the physical attributes but also by the social and historical influences. This character often manifests into built form that is unique for every given urban setting which then translates into architectural heritage. It is therefore of paramount importance to ensure that this architectural heritage is conserved.

The Mji wa Kale Cultural centre is equipped with training classes and workshops. Shops, residentials and a Swahili Restaurant owners will rent the facilities out to obtain revenue for maintainance.

The Swahili Restaurant With a capacity of 50 people, the restaurant not only boasts of having the best Swahili dishes in Mombasa Old town but also provides for jobs for the growing youth population.

MIXED URBAN DEVELOPMENT The Mombasa Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (MOWASCO) is the owner of a vacant plot currently being used as a rubbish dump. MOWASCO is to develop the site to accommodate an urban project with mixed use including shops, foodcourts, restautrants, offices and residentials.

NOTES GENERAL: 1. All dimensions to be checked on site before commencement of any work. Use figured dimensions only. Any discrepancies should be reported to the Architect immediately. 2. All dimensions are in milimetres unless otherwise specified and should be read off from the drawing and not measured. 3. P.V denotes permanent ventilation and must be provided above all windows and doors where indicated or shown.

CIVIL WORKS: 1. Damper proof course to be provided under all external walls at grade. D.P.C to be a minimum of 150mm above ground level. All vegetable soil to be removed from under slab and all paved surfaces. 2. All soils under slabs and around external foundations to be treated for termite control. 3. All soils on cut embarkments to be stabilized. Any slope not to exceed the natural angle of repose. 4. All slabs at ground level to be poured over 1000 gauge polythene sheeting on 50mm stone blinding on hardcore.

STRUCTURAL WORKS: 1. Refer to structural Engineers details for all r.c works. 2. Foundation depth to be determined on site to structural Engineer's approval. 3. All walls less than 200mm thick to be reinforced with hoop irons at every alternate course. 4. All adjacent r.c works and masonry walls to be tied with strap irons at every course.

MECHANICAL WORKS: 1. All sanitry fittings, doors, windows and lifts to schedules. 2. All plumbing and drainage to comply with MOWASCO regulations. 3. All service ducts to be accessible from every floor. 4. SVP denotes sewer vent pipe to be provided at the head of drainage. 5. With a 90x30m plot, the design concept revolves around networking and connection between the spaces. The structure forms an urban community with all necesities in their reach. The guests in the facility could easily make a move from the public spaces, private spaces and offices without necessarily leaving the structure.

CHANGAMWE RESIDENTIAL BLOCKS The Mombasa County in line with the national Big Four agenda on housing intends to undertake an aggressive programme aimed to regenerate old estates within Mombasa. This will ensure that the residents will access affordable modern housing with upgraded and greatly renewed support infrastructure.

Located in Changamwe, Mombasa, is affordable housing project aimed to maximise space utilization while maintaining a livable and attractive conditions for the middle class. With public spaces, parking silos and different housing typologies ranging from 1-3 bedroom and studio apartements.

To reduce costs and ensure the apartments are affordable to the target market, material selection will be key and the buildings will also not exceed 5 storeys to reduce lift installation costs.

INTERIOR DESIGN LOBBY AND OFFICE Located in the 5th floor of the MOWASCO offices, is one of the best Law firms in Mombasa. The project is to design an adequate lobby and ofice for the managing partner in the law firm. The office will clearly describes the works of the advocate, leaving the guests feeling well represented by the firm.
