Seax, Dedon, 2011 2013 Milan Furniture Fair

Achille, MDF, 2011

Product info CONCEPT A soft, ethereal structure. An elegant and enveloping sofa that promises pure relaxation. Large, generous cushions. Rich padding and a soft leather cover. Jean-Marie Massaud revisits the enveloping elegance of the John-John, amplifies it and designs the Antohn, a sofa that is both imposing and light in terms of its structure. In fact, it almost appears to hover in the air thanks to its thin T-shaped titanium colour feet which, located in the central section of the structure, are completely invisible. The sofa’s most distinctive feature is its high backrest, which also functions as a headrest. It is decorated and lightened by the horizontal line that runs right across its surface obtained thanks to the straightforward and elegant folding of the leather. The armrest-cushions, padded with goose down and polyester wadding, are impossibly soft and are attached to the structure via the Pelle Frau® cover with micro perforated internal surface. Every detail of the sofa exudes comfort. The seat structure is in solid beech whilst the central crosspiece is made of iron, and the padding is in polyurethane foam and polyester wadding. The structure of the armrests and backrests is made of solid beech and poplar with plywood panels in birch and poplar. The backrest is padded with polyurethane foam and the front quilt is in goose down and polyester wadding. The spring system is produced using elastic belts. Anthon comes in a two-seater, a two-seater large and a three-seater version. Cover in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System, Pelle Frau® Nest or Pelle Frau® Soul.

Product info CONCEPT

It enters the bedroom almost on tiptoe, evoking the airy grace of a classical ballerina, before enticing with its soft, generous and imposing headboard. Giselle, a bed that steals the limelight, almost theatrical yet at the same time unassuming. The four conical feet form part of the frame and taper off towards the floor, evoking a sensation of extreme lightness. It was as if the Giselle had entered the room on tiptoes, almost weightless. It then reveals its generous, imposing and richly padded headboard, embellished with simple, austere stitching that divides it up into four cushioned areas. Lightly inclined, it is the ideal support for reading, working and conversing, as well as for resting, in a versatile night zone with a contemporary feel. The frame is completely enveloped by a high-impact cover that combines leather with hide. There is no visible stitching, emphasising the intrinsic beauty of the materials. The different possible colour combinations make the Giselle a personal and unique piece of furniture. The headboard frame is in solid tulip wood and poplar with padding in polyurethane foam and dacron. The frame, in solid beech and tulip wood with padding in polyurethane foam, is integrated with the staves in curved beech plywood. The cover is in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System, also available with the bottom surface of the frame and the feet in Cuoio Saddle® or Cuoio Saddle® Extra, or completely in Pelle Frau® Nest or Pelle Frau® Soul.

Product info CONCEPT

An armchair for reading, dreaming, meditating. As enveloping and sensual as a song. The bèrgere as interpreted by Roberto Lazzeroni. Sensual and sinuous. Designed, with its high and welcoming back, for relaxation and reading. For thinking and listening to music. Its round and agile forms recall the dynamic and sophisticated designs of Carlo Mollino. Lazzeroni enhances them with the expert use of materials. The combination of leather and hide, as experimented with in the “Ginger” and the “Fred”, makes a return. The internal part of the shell is covered in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System, Nest and Soul, while the exterior is in Cuoio Saddle® Extra. A combination further exalted by the elegant visible stitching. The back structure is in moulded polyurethane foam. The springing of the seasoned beech-wood consists of doublecone steel springs that are individually tied and attached to jute webbing. The base is in wengé-stained ash wood. The “Mamy Blue” sits elegantly alongside the “Montera” chair, the “Bolero” table and the “Fiorile” side tables, all by Roberto Lazzeroni for Poltrona Frau.

Product info CONCEPT

Light stitching that traces out a smile. Clean cuts that bring out the tactile quality of the hide and leather. After “Ginger” and “Fred”, a new project by Roberto Lazzeroni, for Poltrona Frau. The “Montera” chair. The common denominator in the designer’s work is the lightness of form and, above all, the sensory charm of leather.

The internal part of the shell is covered in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System. In elegant contrast the external surface is in Cuoio Saddle® Extra. Two different materials that enhance each other when sewed together with clean-cut edges. On the back of the seat the visible stitching traces a delicate motif and hides the zipper which, like an impeccable tailor-made suit, is used to close the cover. The seat is also available in a version completely covered in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System. Shell in moulded curved beech plywood. Padding in polyurethane foam. Four-leg base in Wengé-stained solid ash wood. The “Montera” is a perfect visual match for the new “Bolero” table, also by Roberto Lazzeroni.

Designer’s profile NAME Gastone Rinaldi

ADDITIONAL WORKS Sedia DU 68 1954

ORIGINS Italy BIOGRAPHY Gastone Rinaldi was born in Padua on 16 November 1920. In 1916 his father Mario had established RIMA, a company for the production of metal furniture. Gastone enrolled in the Faculty of Economics, but he was passionate about design and sport (as a footballer, he went as far as playing with Cremona, at the time very strong, and as a racing car driver, he took part in the legendary Thousand Mile race). In 1948, together with his brother Giorgio, he took over from his father in managing the business. He met Gio Ponti and in 1950 he designed the chairs (DU10 and DU11) for the Hospital Section of the IX Milan Triennial. At the same Triennial, the DU9 chair was also presented. Domus published his creations regularly. In 1952, he attended the XXX Milano Fair in the section curated by Alberto Rosselli, Ettore Sottsass and Marco Zanuso. The armchairs for the Piccolo theatre of Milan followed, with Zanuso. In 1954, he won the Compasso d’Oro for the chair DU30. He participated with Ponti, Parisi, De Carli and Gardella in the American adventure of Altamira, one of the first companies across the ocean to call Italian designers. He therefore worked with Carlo Mollino on the chairs for the Molinette Hospital of Turin. In 1957, the armchair DU41 won the silver medal at the XI Triennial. However the internal relations within RIMA became complex and in 1974 Rinaldi established Thema. In 1978, he obtained a nomination for the Compasso d’Oro for the armchair Arianna and in 1981 another for the folding chair Dafne. Product info CONCEPT

1950’s elegance and style. A style icon. A project that catalyses and revisits the creative ferment of an era. “Letizia”, an armchair designed in 1954 by Gastone Rinaldi, who christened it the DU 55 P, and now rereleased by Poltrona Frau. Encapsulating the visual and formal style of the 1950’s, “Letizia” is the product of a genuinely organicistic approach adopted by the designer. Gastone Rinaldi experiments with new formal solutions, works on full and empty spaces, on sensual and soft lines. And in the end everything fits together in an original and perfect harmony, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality. The seat is welcoming and comfortable. The backrest acquires new elasticity. The supports, thin and sleek, fit perfectly with the shell. Poltrona Frau explores the less familiar history of design and brings a small masterpiece of style and thought back to life. An icon that has retained the power of its designer’s successful intuition over time. And which even in a contemporary setting exudes style, elegance and balance. A universal design and, at the same time, the expression of a precise cultural breeding ground. Steel structure with moulded polyurethane foam padding. Elastic belts for the springs of the seat and the backrest. Feet in three different finishes: ash veneer with endpins in antique-finish brass, black or chrome. Cover in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System, Pelle Frau® Nest, Pelle Frau® Soul or removable fabric.

Product info CONCEPT

The perfection of form, manufacturing intelligence. The expression of an era, a timeless icon. The DU 55 armchair, designed by Gastone Rinaldi in 1954, today in a faithful reproduction by Poltrona Frau, which revisits the work of a forgotten genius of design and to introduce a 1950’s icon to the contemporary panorama. An emblematic piece from a period that stood out for its great formal, functional and aesthetic innovation. The rounded geometries, the study of the thicknesses and padding, and the relationship between full and empty spaces led Gastone Rinaldi to design a chair with a strong personality. DU 55 is an icon in the true sense of the word. It communicates coherence, completeness and elegance straight away, and it combines the originality of its form with manufacturing intelligence. The curved shell and sleek feet are a guarantee of the stability and comfort of this relaxing and welcoming chair. Steel structure with moulded polyurethane foam padding. Elastic belts for the springs of the seat and the backrest. Feet in three different finishes: ash veneer with endpins in antique-finish brass, black or chrome. Thema closed in 1989, Gastone Rinaldi died in Padua on 02 March 2006. 2013 Milan Furniture Fair

Product info CONCEPT

Curved tubular steel and wood. Painstakingly designed. A minimalist project. Gastone Rinaldi was one of the biggest experts and fans of curved tubular technology in Italy. The T 904 bench, a historic piece revisited by Poltrona Frau, is a fine example. The structure is painstakingly designed in tubular steel with a black finish. The seat is minimalist, comprising of a board of poplar plywood with teak-stained ash wood veneer, which can be completed with three cushions placed simply on the wooden surface if desired. A piece of furniture which, with its clean lines and use of tubular steel, evokes 1950’s design and the work of Le Corbusier, but with its own originality. In the Poltrona Frau world, the T 904 can be combined, with great versatility and harmony, with classical or more contemporary pieces alike. The cushions are padded with polyurethane foam and dacron. The cover is in Pelle FrauŽ leather from the Color System, Pelle Frau Nest, Pelle Frau Soul or removable fabric.

Product info CONCEPT

Sleek, light lines and wooden inlays on the surface with different patterns each time. Roberto Lazzeroni has designed the “Bolero” table for Poltrona Frau. A minimalist and sleek addition to the living room. An original new interpretation of the poetic lightness of “Ginger” and “Fred”. The surface, attached to the supports using a spacer, almost appears to float in space. Its faintly trapeze-like shape accentuates the visual perception of a thickness reduced to the minimum. The original tapered triangular section gives the supports greater dynamism. The overall effect is one of subtle, airy elegance. In this painstaking economy of elements, the inlay work on the Wengéstained ash veneered surface is particularly notable. Macro wooden tesserae combine to create a pattern of horizontal and vertical grains that is different each time. The surface is produced from wood fibre which is trimmed, around the edge, in solid ash wood. Legs in Wengé-stained solid ash wood. Mounting plates and spacers in black lacquered steel. The “Bolero” table is a perfect match for the new “Montera” chair, also by Roberto Lazzeroni for Poltrona Frau.

Product info CONCEPT

Soft, rounded geometries. Different shapes and sizes that can be mixed and matched according to taste. A triangle. A square. A rectangle. The smoothed corners, the soft, understated, almost organic lines. Roberto Lazzeroni follows up “Ginger” and “Fred” with “Fiorile”. A family of tables of different designs and heights that can be used in different ways and combined according to taste. In the living-room your favourite table can be freely combined with the armchair in the corner or can add the finishing touch to a sofa, whilst in the bedroom it can be used as a minimalist bedside table. When combined, the tables create geometries that are different every time thanks also to their different heights, adding dynamism and elegance to the space in the process. The supports, in wengé-tinted solid ash, take their cue from the base of the new “Montera” chair in terms of their materials and sleek design. The inlay work that is a feature of the new “Bolero” table can also be seen on the surfaces of all of the “Fiorile” tables, produced from birch plywood with an ash veneer. And according to the geometries of the table, the grain changes to form a different design each time.
