Fall Brush & Limb Pick Up! Don’t forget: the City’s Fall Brush and Limb Pick-Up is scheduled for October 4 through 8, 2021!

Get your flu shot at the annual Drive Through Flu Clinic!

Annual Drive Through Flu Clinic In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to get your annual flu shot. The 2021 Drive Through Flu Clinic has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the NEMO Fairgrounds. The Drive Through Flu Clinic is a quick and easy way to get your flu shot for the 2021-2022 influenza season to protect yourself, your loved ones, and to help ensure our local healthcare system is not overwhelmed during the second winter of this pandemic. The Drive Through Flu Clinic is for people ages three years and older. The clinic— sponsored by the Adair County Health Department—is provided at no cost to Adair County residents. However, please bring your Medicare and Medicaid cards, if applicable. Short or loose-fitting sleeves are recommended, and don’t forget to wear your mask! City crews will begin picking up tree limbs and large brush on Monday, October 4, 2021. Although the work is expected to take the entire week, to guarantee pick-up, your brush must be placed curbside by 7:00 am, Monday, October 4, 2021. Help beautify our community! Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety! Do you know what to do when you hear an alarm in your home? Do you know the different sounds your alarms can make? Knowing what to do when an alarm sounds will keep you and your family safe. When an alarm makes noises – a beeping sound or a chirping sound – you must take action. Fire Prevention Week is October 3 to 9, 2021, and this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety!”, works to educate everyone about the different sounds the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make. City Budget Process Underway The City has begun planning for the 2022 Budget. The City’s fiscal year runs from January 1 through December 31. The budget process includes ensuring City obligations are paid, projects underway are funded, and services are provided that residents expect and the law requires. The 2022 Budget is challenging, but not impossible. Throughout the budget process, the City will continue to focus on our vision to be the best city to the citizens we serve, meeting their needs and expectations both today and tomorrow, with a focus on Economic Development, Quality of Life, Fiscal Responsibility, Efficiency in Government, and Protection of City-owned assets.

The annual Adopt-a-Child Christmas Program is designed to provide a special Christmas gift for more than 300 children in Adair County, 0 to 16 years of age, who otherwise might not receive a gift. Sign up for Adopt-A-Child begins on October 1, 2021, through November 30, 2021, at the Salvation Army, 1005 W. Gardner St., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, by calling 660.665.7885, or via Facebook Messenger at facebook.com/TSAkirksville! Only the child’s legal guardian may apply. Please provide proof of address, income, and ID, which are required for eligibility.
