NADVORI Boutique Hotel 15 weeks - Spring 2019 - 20,000 SF 1 of 4 selected to be displayed at Graduation Exhibit

Nádvorí, a boutique hotel in Prague, Czech Republic, uses sustainable design to improve quality of life for the duration of your stay and aims to encourage visitors to continue living a green-lifestyle upon their return home. The design for the hotel draws inspiration from the urban planning of Prague, mimicking the courtyards hidden amongst the historic architecture. These courtyards provide opportunity for green space to exist within the dense city scape. The design draws from the defining features of a courtyard: enclosed on four sides, open to the sky, exposed

historic architecture, water feature, vegetation and hidden entrances. By creating a courtyard within the hotel, it allows plant life to exist indoors and provides opportunity to teach visitors about the importance of sustainability in their every day lives. Within the courtyard, a water feature encompasses both aesthetics and functionality, serving as a rainwater catchment and purification system and an interactive installation. By showing beauty in the processes of sustainability,

I hope to inspire visitors to live sustainable lifestyles.

LINKED Student Innovation Center 7 weeks - Spring 2018 - 15,850 SF Angelo Donghia Foundation Interior Design Scholarship - National Winner DIRTT Environmental Solutions Studio Award - 2nd Place

Linked Student Innovation Center is an extension of the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, located in the Historic District of Roanoke VA. The space houses advanced active learning environments, design and creation

work areas that foster interdisciplinary

opportunities for faculty, students, industry partners and the community. The design focuses on creating meaningful and lasting connections by bridging the gap engagement

I explored the idea of both visual and physical connections by introducing varying degrees of openness within the architecture that encourage communication and provide glimpses of student collaboration to the community. The design features a large kitchen and event space that opens up to an indoor “green space” with a living wall that provides the perfect setting for student research fundraising events, bringing community and university together under one roof.

FRILUFTSLIV Multiple Sclerosis Day Spa 2 weeks - Fall 2018 - 4,600 SF Bienenstock Interior Design Competition - 2nd Place Nation Winner

Friluftsliv, a holistic day spa for patients with multiple sclerosis, focuses on the healing qualities of human - nature interaction. The Norwegian phrase Friluftsliv literally translates as “openair living” and is used to describe the value of spending time with nature for spiritual and physical wellbeing.

The spa is located in Fusa, Norway, a town famous for its natural attractions including mountains and fjords narrow inlets in the mountains formed by glacial erosion with steep sides or cliffs. At the base of a fjord, the large scale mountains surround the city on all sides invoking feelings of protection

In contrast, at the top of a fjord, one can see miles of rolling landscapes encouraging exploration and personal discovery. Focusing on the idea of prospect and refuge, the exercise area and pool provide opportunity for growth and encourage a positive outlook as patients work alongside others who share their same struggles, while the massage and therapy rooms serve as a place to retreat for one on one treatment with a doctor. The use of slanted walls throughout the space supports the design concept creating moments of compression and release as one moves through the space.

and security.

The kitchen uses an easy to read, contrasting material palette. Following universal design standards, the kitchen features counter-tops at 30”, 36”, and 42” and appliances located at or below counter-height making them easily accessible to someone in a wheelchair. In the master bathroom

the vanity is designed with clear knee-space for a wheelchair and a universal single lever faucet. The bathroom also features a barrier free shower with a zero-step threshold. The apartment uses a minimal material palette allowing nature to take the forefront. 18

NEXT Real Estate Office 6 weeks - Fall 2018 - 12,550 SF Steelcase Next Interior Design Competition - National Submission

NEXT is a global commercial real estate and project management firm

that is headquartered in Dallas, Texas and has 100 offices throughout the world. They recently expanded to a brand new location in Denver. The new space not only reflects their overall company brand and culture but also draws inspiration from the local region by focusing on the culture and walkability of the Denver community. The majority of existing circulation in the city runs orthogonally, however in the LoDo District where the office is located, the circulation pattern shifts diagonally establishing a connection and its significance as the heart of the city.

DENVER, CO MAP

The floor plan mimics the contrasting grid lines of the city, with angled circulation in Suite 100 and orthogonal circulation in Suite 150. This shift in circulation establishes visual and implied connection between the two spaces promoting collaboration and interaction. The pedestrian culture of the city is expressed in the interior of the NEXT office by incorporating materials and finishes that speak to the local, handmade culture of Denver bringing feelings of warmth, familiarity and security.

(I.D.E.A.S.) INTERIOR DESIGNERS FOR EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABILITY This organization leads a weekly lecture series with industry professionals and hosts networking and professional development events for students in the College of Architecture. In a friendly competition among members we were tasked to design a logo for the club encompassing its brand qualities. My logo was selected by my peers from a pool of 10+ designs to represent our organization and appear on prints, digital communication and merchandise including clothing, coffee mugs etc. When designing this logo I included a house icon as a nod to the built environment with the silhouette of a light bulb inside, portraying a thought or an “idea.” The filament of the bulb is a sprout, signifying their focus on sustainability and the “E” of IDEAS acts as the threads of the bulb.

EMPTY BOWLS FUNDRAISER The photo above features select handmade bowls I created using the “slip cast technique” that were donated to the Empty Bowls Event. Empty Bowls is a student led fundraising event that partner’s with a local nonprofit organization, Micah’s Backpack, to fight against children’s hunger in the New River Valley. At this event guests purchase a ticket with which they can select a handmade ceramic bowl (above), donated by students of the School of Architecture + Design, to fill with soup and then take home with them to keep. 27

HARRISON HALL Higher Education Lobby + Student Lounge Client: James Madison University - Harrisonburg, VA Interior Designer: Blueline My Role: Lead Interior Designer + Project Manager 2,500 SF - Under Construction ( Expected Completion Fall 2022)

Founded in 1908, James Madison University is a public university located in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. Over the past 10+ years our firm has fostered a close working relationship with JMU and has worked on a diverse collection of projects including New Construction, Renovation, and Historic Preservation. This project located on the Historic Quad, includes an interior renovation of an existing lobby space and conference room. The client wanted the space to feel more inviting for students by providing a variety of lounge and study spaces.

Through the design process, we identified underutilized spaces within the existing floor plan., and used flooring patterns to create defined lounge zones. We also designed custom millwork providing a range of seating options, including built-in benches and high-top seating with integrated power, as well as a wood ceiling canopy with an integrated tv monitor and soft seating below. This diverse arrangement of study spaces can accommodate a variety learning styles and foster collaboration among students.
