RATIONALE My design practice has a main focus on print based design within the areas of branding, pattern design, print processes, illustration and type. I have also explored context throughout many of my briefs through digital methods and sourcing photographs online. I have expanded on existing skills and knowledge and also utilised new skills and applied this knowledge throughout the final production of my products.

Title and Brief Summary – include a short rationale for each brief identifying why you chose it, what was the focus of the brief and how long you spent on it.

BRIEF 1 Black and white print I wanted to create a repeat pattern using black and white that can be applied across a large range of stationary products because this would allow me to explore product range, capitalise on my hand rendering skills, and gain more knowledge of print processes.

I spent four weeks on this project.

BRIEF 2 Penguin Design Award 2013 ‘The Wind in the Willows’ I wanted to re-launch and promote ‘The Wind in the Willows’ with a new look book cover in order to reinvent this classic book to a new generation of readers because this will give me experience in a new area of design, publishing and editorial and allow me to capitalise on my image and layout skills.

I spent three weeks on this project.

BRIEF 3 Illustrative type ‘Off the Reel’ I wanted to create and brand a film memorabilia company that specialise in illustrative type based products. Come up with three different examples of illustrative typefaces based on popular films and apply them to various products in order to show the range the company will offer because this will allow me to capitalise on my hand rendering skills, explore branding and type conventions.

I spent three weeks on this project.

BRIEF 4 Coca Cola I wanted to design and promote a limited edition bottle range for Coca-Cola with the theme of christmas as this will allow me to explore branding, promotion and advertising as well as linking to my dissertation.

I spent a week and a half on this project.
