Silverdale Grand Opening new library, new stories April 2, 2022

2

The Realization of a Decades-Long Dream Kitsap libraries are born from the passion of our communities. They hold a foundational place, inspiring learning and creativity and connecting people. The first library in Silverdale opened in 1945. Since then, Silverdale has grown into a regional marketplace, consistently demanding more from its library. In 1946, the library filled a 16-by-16-foot Army surplus building and by 1958, volunteers rolled up their sleeves to remodel and expand. Then, in 1970, the Friends of the Silverdale Library successfully raised funds to build a new 1,000-square-foot library. In 1980, the final expansion of that building gave us our “Old Town” Silverdale library... a place that many have known and loved for a lifetime. On April 2, 2022, it’s time for the next chapter with a new library in Silverdale! At 12,000 square feet, the new library is more than double the size and seating, offering more places for people to come together or find a tranquil place to sit and read. The physical collection has expanded by 25%, with more books, movies and music to peruse. In Kitsap, the Library is the number one place for computer use and training. The new library empowers us to serve even more people daily by offering 60% more computers to the public. This spacious, flexible building offers seven meeting and study areas, creating places to learn and work or simply take a phone call or jump into a virtual meeting. There is even a room with beautiful Dyes Inlet views, large enough to host events for as many as 125 people. And don’t worry about parking! The new library boasts more than 100 parking spaces, ensuring you can drop by, even on the busiest afternoons. While you visit, enjoy the Central Kitsap School District Campus walking trails, sports fields and easy access to the YMCA and community playground. We can’t wait for you to see it. To everyone who has been a part of our story, thank you. This new library is a gift from our community, for our community. Together we’ve written an exciting new chapter in Kitsap Regional Library’s story. Read more at KRL.org/newsilverdale.
