Blended learning strategies
Computer Power pioneered a unique ‘student-centred learning’ model which is used at all our institutes. Our self-directed learning style has been continuously proven over forty-two years by more than 31,000 graduates and our highly successful industry placement with employers.
Self-directed learning The self-directed learning style offered by Computer Power allows you to take control of your own learning. You will attend the institute on a personalised schedule agreed at enrolment. All the resources you require are supplied for you and instructors are on hand to support you in working through your qualification. Unlike a traditional school, you will not be learning in a classroom with one teacher, taking you through a topic at a time. Instead you will be working on an open training floor at your own work station. This means that you can study at your own direction and not be held back by students who are learning more slowly. Most students find that there are topics that they find much easier than others. This means that you have the opportunity to fast-track through easier courseware and spend more time on more challenging courseware. Studying full time within our business environment reflects a normal work day on the job. This is based on a campus study shift of five hours with another two hours either at home or the library each day.
Our blended learning strategies - Theory and ‘hands-on’ practice on/off campus
‘Head Start’ is a structured orientation program for new international students arriving at our campuses. This program is designed to assist all international students to settle comfortably into the institute and prepare them for a successful learning and living experience in New Zealand. We recognise that there will be many differences in studying and living in New Zealand to those you experienced in your home country. Topics covered include culture, accommodation, transport, shopping, money matters, NZ law, safety, health, recreation, campus guidelines and essential study skills that you will need to be successful in our self-directed IT learning environment. It is our goal to settle you into your new environment as quickly as possible before commencing your qualification study and learning.
In today’s competitive climate, graduates want to gain employment upon completion of their qualifications. To assist you with this, we have developed a leading Professional Development Program to help our graduates obtain their ideal graduate role. Computer Power has the experience and intricate knowledge of the ICT industry worldwide to develop students into becoming the IT professionals employers demand. With dedication, students graduate from Computer Power technically proficient, and able to work as a dynamic team member. At Computer Power, our expert Placement Consultants have already helped to place thousands of graduates in employment and now it’s your turn! Our Professional Development Program will assist you to: ■ Build self-management skills ■ Learn people skills, such as communication and teamwork ■ Write powerful resumes and know who to send them to for maximum impact ■ Become familiar with interview skills and techniques
“Not pressured by instructors, rather than teach, they allow you to understand it with their support. A nice experience.”
■ Access the hidden job market ■ Benefit from our individual mentoring and support services
Our Professional Development Program can give you the power to succeed!
