When Love Came Down By: Andy Clapp A world transforms itself for a month as lights pierce the darkness, trees hold the weight of decorations, and kindness abounds. But January often presents a different story. Life returns to what was before as conditions changes and life moves on What is it that makes Christmas such a wonder? Is it just the giving of gifts? Are we captivated simply by the ashing lights and the beauty of storefronts? Could there be something more Fallen from the original design, God looked upon His creation. Sorrow, pain, and evil erupted as man slipped further away from what God designed. Could He have turned away? Absolutely. Discouraged by the decision of mankind to rebel, God had every right to give up on what He created, to abandon the plan as humanity careened further off track. But He didn’t As we celebrate Christmas, we celebrate one of the greatest acts of love ever known. Rather than turn away, He sent His Son to come and walk among us. Instead of giving up on us, He came to us. John wrote, “The Word became esh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14 HCSB) To a broken world, He stepped out of heaven, living to teach us, dying to save us From Jesus, we learn the nature of unconditional love. Love came down, knowing that He would be rejected. Love came to earth, teaching us how to love like the Father through the example of the Son. Love came in humility to a stable in Bethlehem, though He deserved a palace more royal than any the earth has seen. When logic said turn away, Jesus came I wrote a novel this year titled Midnight, Christmas Eve. In the book, I tried to imagine what unconditional love goes through in our times. What I learned through the writing is that love can hurt, love extends beyond the logic of man, and true love must endure great disappointments. What I discovered is that the only way we can understand unconditional love is to understand Jesus Himself. What I found is that unconditional love is rare and is priceless. But it does exist. And what we see is that, even when given every excuse to turn away and give up, unconditional love perseveres…and like it did in Bethlehem, it meets us where we are. Let Jesus show you a love that goes beyond the boundaries this Christmas and let Him teach you how to love in such a manner in your life. When Love came down, everything changed and for that, we are eternally thankful.

Bits’n’Pieces Presents Over the River and Through the Woods… A Christmas Song We know the words to this beloved song. We sang it through our youth and later. We sang it at Thanksgiving! Now we learn that this song, “Over the River and Through the Wood”, (just one WOOD, not WOODS as we say it) is from a Thanksgiving poem written in 1844 by Lydia Maria Child. Lydia’s poem was called “The New-England Boy’s Song about Thanksgiving Day”. Someone, no one knows who, set it to music, and it was sung as a Christmas Song, with words “Hurrah for Christmas Day!” instead of “Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day! Another change of some well-known words, was ‘to GrandMOTHER’S house we go’. Originally the poem read ‘to GrandFATHER’S house we go’. We wish Happy Thanksgiving! AND Merry Christmas! To all you folks According to Wikipedia, the original song has 12 verses Over the River and Through the Wood (Lyrics) Over the river and through the wood,
 to Grandmother's house we go;
 the horse knows the way to carry the sleigh
 through the white and drifted snow Over the river and through the wood—
 oh, how the wind does blow!
 It stings the toes and bites the nose,
 as over the ground we go Over the river and through the wood,
 with a clear blue winter sky.
 The dogs do bark and the children hark,
 as we go jingling by Over the river and through the wood,
 to have a day of play!
 Oh hear the bells ring, "Ting-a-ling,"
 Hurrah for Christmas Day Hurrah for Christmas Day! Thank you for spending these months with us as we explored many topics. We will be taking a pause from spending this time with you and will go Over the River and Through the Woods ourselves this winter. Take care of yourselves and each other, love your neighbor and remember your values until our paths cross again. bitsnpiecesliberty@gmail.com

Planning pays in retirement Personal savings are key to living comfortably Michael doesn’t see himself living on the beach when he retires, but he’d like to vacation there with his wife. He worries he isn’t saving enough in the 401(k) account he has at work, but he isn’t sure what more he can manage with two kids, a mortgage and credit cards. Michael faces two dilemmas: Saving enough money for a comfortable retirement, and making those savings last his lifetime. Like most Americans, having money in retirement may depend on part-time jobs, personal savings and tax-advantaged retirement savings accounts. A financial representative can help people like Michael understand their options, such as 401(k) and 403(b) plans, annuities, and individual retirement accounts (IRAs). The key is to set goals and get started. The longer you wait to start saving, the more you will have to save to reach those goals.

I can help you plan for life. J. B. Griffith, III, FIC, LUTCF, RICP, ChFC®, CLU® 147 S. Fayetteville Street PO Box 699 Liberty, NC 27298 B. 336-622-6020 C. 336-908-1748 j.b.griffith.3rd@mwarep.org
