Meet Our New Staff Member “Mail Chimp”! Here at Liberty Leader we have heard the numerous replies we need a weekly newspaper in our communities. I wish I could move the magic want and generate enough advertising business and hours to produce a paper copy to hit newsstands each week. That is our goal one day. However in the mean time, starting in January, each Friday an electronic newsletter will be coming out. In this you will find obituaries for the last week, upcoming event reminders for the upcoming week, breaking new stories and general interest stories our of area. You can also advertise in this online electric newsletter. We hope this helps keep our communities connected even more. This brings us to Mail Chimp. His job is to get you these stories. You can visit our website at www.libertynewspaper.org and click on home page and sign up to receive this email each week with the new newsletter. Also this will be a place we send out special event reminders for our area. This is just another new way we are trying to improve our community. So you ask, I do not have an email or I missed a newsletter (or even a past paper issue ), what can I do. Well on our website you can click on ISSUES and there will be links for past issues of all. Keep the ideas coming folks. Also keep the news, stories and events coming. Most of all support all the local business that advertise in the paper. ! They are what cover all the cost to keep this great paper going. Happy New Year and look forward to another great year.

PLEASANT HILL CHRISTIAN CHURCH!

Saturday, January 18th 2014 At 5pm!

! The apostle Paul wrote, “… but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Galatians 5:13-14! As we look to live by biblical principles, it is our desire to serve the community in which we live. Over the last couple of years it has been our burden to seek out those who simply need a friend. At this time of year especially, we are all too often guilty of neglecting people who may need companionship or may be going through a rough time. Unfortunately, we take for granite the simple things in life, such as having a multitude of friends, or being inundated with countless family gatherings or social events this time of year requires of us.! ! It is our desire that you be our guest as we host this community friendship dinner. Please be seeking out others who may need companionship: a co-worker, a neighbor, a stranger…Whoever they are, it would be our distinct pleasure to meet you both as we fulfill the Lord’s command to, “love one another; as I have loved you…”John 13:34! For more information, directions or to RSVP you may call us at 336-376-9653 or visit us at www.pleasanthillchristian.com ! RSVP requested, but not required.! Zero Hour In Review!

I didn't know it at the time, but when God gave myself and the other organizing youth pastors the phrase "next level" to incorporate into the second annual "Zero Hour" New Year's Eve bash, it was actually the perfect description of how things would go down! Our vision was realized in a spectacular way this year, as teens from surrounding schools and youth groups piled into Miracle Valley to celebrate 2013 and ring in 2014 on a firm foundation. Our goal was to show the teens in attendance that living for God gives us the best reason to party! And boy did we! We were blessed with great live music from the Gray's Chapel UMC Praise Band as well as Christian Hip Hop artist Mr. GP from Winston-Salem. We had a dance contest, photo booth, video games, and hilarious crowd competitions, all leading up to our Playstation 4 give away and an epic balloon drop at midnight! Best of all, the Good News of Jesus Christ was communicated clearly and we had a handful of teens who were able to start of 2014 as brand new followers of Jesus! Thanks to all that came out to help and attend; especially the Youth Ministries of First Christian Church in Ramseur, Oakley Baptist Church in Siler City, and Tyson's Creek Baptist Church in Bear Creek, who along with Freedom Family Church were supporting and serving from the beginning. Zero Hour is a product of a few like-minded youth pastors who have a desire to see lost teens know Jesus and God's Kingdom to be built wherever possible. If you're a minister or have a heart for reaching teens for God, we would love for you to join our group. Call Ben Suggs @ 919-548-0350. ! Story By:Ben Suggs,Owner/DJ,Southern Entertainment!

Date Set For 2014 Gala!

Mark the date for Saturday, April 12 ! ! Randolph County Partnership has set the date for this years Gala fundraiser. Click your heels together three times and be transported to an elegant social evening at Adaumont Farm. The Partnership's annual Gala for the Children is set for Saturday, April 12. Last year, the sold-out event generated nearly $52,000 for the Partnership's programs and services, a new record. Over 100 volunteers worked to make the evening happen. More than 140 individuals and businesses donated beautiful objects, valuable services, and unique experiences to the auctions. And 200 children received the gift of literacy through donations to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. We are excited about building on that success. Tickets to the Gala will be available in late January. If you are interested in volunteering for the Gala, would like to become a sponsor, or would like to donate an auction item, please contact Jill Jackson at 629-2128, ext. 12 or jjackson@randolphkids.org.!

Happy New Year! Today I wish you a year of health, happiness, and good fortune, all year long. As I reflect on the past twelve months, I am thankful for the many ways that 4H has been important in the lives of our many participants. We have had youth attend camp for the first time, we have had children experience our school enrichment classes with great excitement and we plan to offer more in 2014!! 4-H members are working on putting the finishing touches on their recordbooks. The 4-H record is a list of accomplishments that a 4-H member has experienced in the previous year! 4-H members may submit any number of records. Once the records are collected, we will exchange our books with another county for judging. When the books are returned, the awards will be recorded and presented to our members at our annual Honors Night celebration to be held on Thursday evening, February 13 at the newly renovated Sunset Theater in downtown Asheboro. We will meet beginning at 6:30 PM and following a lively selection of entertaining acts, we will commence with the awards program. ! If you are interested in joining a 4-H club, Ms. Amy Kidd is organizing a new club in the North East Corner of Randolph County, meeting at Providence Grove High School. An interest meeting is planned for Thursday evening, January 16 beginning at 6:00 PM at the High School room G213. Elementary, middle and high school youth are welcome to attend, along with parents, to learn about the benefits of 4-H!! Ms. Heidi Mitchell is organizing the canine club and is ready to have a group of youth to work alongside! The club is open to all kids in Randolph County. Meetings will be held at 3382 Greeson Country Road, Climax NC. According to Heidi, “We have big plans for NC's Canine program and invite everyone, youth and adult volunteers to join in! The canine program is similar to the horse and livestock programs in that you do NOT need a dog to participate. There will be discussion meetings and hands on "bring your dog" meetings. For those without a dog, they can borrow one of our five demo dogs for activities. Kids will learn about dog care and health, canine development, careers relating to dogs, training, showmanship and safety as well as responsibility, leadership skills, organization, and more!” If you have a child between the ages of 5 and 18 that would like to participate in Canine 4H club and would like to come to our first meeting in January, please email me at simplypawsitivetraining@gmail.com ! As you can see, the 4-H program is always changing to meet the needs of youth in our community. If you would like to learn more about the new clubs organizing, or if you should like to organize a club in Liberty give us a call at: Liberty 218-4000; Archdale / Trinity, 819-3000, and Asheboro, 318-6000. 4H is open to girls and boys ages 519 without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability. 4-H is a United Way Agency.

Norfork/Southern has submitted conceptual designs for extending rail to various locations on the 300 acre site. With the division of streams and variation of elevation the Master Plan Design consist of more than one site for development. Another improvement in consideration is extending W. With the passing of Shane Isley while serving on Town Council, plans are under way to establish a memorial at Town Hall in remembrance. Dedicated to service, Shane brought his own style of leadership and humor to council meetings. He always stood for what he believed, never wavering. Merry Christmas from the Liberty Chamber of Commerce!!

!

Written by: Teresa Bruchon! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas ...in Liberty. We could be on the front of a Christmas card! Liberty is a quintessential example of Christmas in small town USA. All that was missing on Saturday was the snow. With a chill in the air, people from near and far lined the streets to see the Annual Christmas Parade coordinated by the Liberty Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Cary McMasters was the Grand Marshall of this year's parade. The chamber banner, highlighting all of the businesses that sponsored the 2013 Christmas festivities held a prominent place at the beginning of the parade. THANK YOU local businesses for supporting this annual Liberty tradition. The Liberty Christmas Parade officially kicks off the holiday shopping season for local businesses. We ask that the community support the businesses that are right here in your own neighborhood. All of these featured businesses generously opened their hearts and wallets to support this holiday event. Please show your appreciation by patronizing them this Christmas season and into the new year. Let them know how much you appreciate them supporting this annual event. Without their support, the community events like the Christmas Parade, July Celebration etc. would not be possible for us all to enjoy. The business names of all sponsors are featured on a banner at the corner by the Chamber Caboose office. ! We hope everyone enjoyed the festivities of this year's Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting. We wish we could do a better job at predicting the weather. Sorry, we had to cancel the vending and street festival that was scheduled during the day. This would have included several bands and choral groups, as well as artisan and craftsmen from locations all over the state. Unfortunately, with the threat of rain, in an opened air venue, we had to make a decision the day before the festivities. Musicians, understandably, will not risk damage to their musical equipment with the chance of precipitation. Nor is it fair to expect craft vendors to bring out their handiwork to try to sell their wares, in a cold wet rain. As it turned out, the rain held off and we were able to have a wonderful and fun filled parade, and the annual tree lighting that followed.! Thank you Liberty, for all the Christmas Spirit the community showed. We had awesome parade participation, with many floats, antique cars, emergency vehicles, walking units, elected officials and local church groups. Thank you for following the safe distribution of candy guidelines. We certainly appreciate your cooperation. As always, the Liberty Police department did an outstanding job during the parade. We also want to thank the Providence Grove cheerleaders for being “Santa's helpers” and distributing candy that was sponsored through the chamber. The marching bands were represented by Providence Grove and Randleman High Schools. We wanted to thank them for their school and holiday spirit. Although, invited by the chamber, Eastern Randolph declined to participate this year. We missed the green and gold representation. The float entries were judged by: Bishop Larry Daye, Patty Kerns; manager of Walmart Express, and Pastor Calvin Stokes. ! 1st place winner, went to scout troop #502 for their “camp out” float. 2Nd place was taken by Freedom Family Church Kid's float for their enthusiastic renditions of favorite Christmas Carols. 3Rd place winner was the “Tea Cup” from the Randolph County Tea Party. Honorable Mention went to Pleasant Christian Church for their live nativity featuring adorable children portraying barnyard animals. ! The Christmas Tree Lighting Festival went on as planned from 4-6 pm. Several churches endured the cold to serve and show love to the community by offering free “gifts”; Bibles, hot chocolate, cider, cookies and candy. Mike Bruchon kept his promise to God again this year by returning the favor of helping someone in need. He and his family have faithfully served hot dogs to the community at the Liberty Christmas Tree Lighting for 10 years. Dr. Blake has opened his physicality every year for this event and continues paid the power bill for the Christmas tree. Christmas Carols played courtesy of Southern Entertainments. Free pictures with Santa were offered inside Dr. Blake's Chiropractic Center. They were sponsored by Republic Services. To bring the festivities to a close, the chamber members gathered near the Christmas Tree to thank the community and local businesses for continuing to support this annual Liberty Tradition and sang “We wish you a Merry Christmas.” Brian Harrington of First Baptist Church gave a message of the True meaning of Christmas and the importance of sharing the love of Jesus to everyone.! The grand finale came as the children sang, cheered and danced for the lights to be lit on the Christmas Tree. As we pass by the Liberty Christmas Tree each evening this Christmas season let's be reminded of the important message of the Christmas Tree represents. The tree is evergreen. Green is the eternal color...a symbol of eternity and our everlasting life in Christ. The tree points to God. The shape of the Christmas tree draws our eyes heavenward, and reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father. The star is the uppermost decoration on the Christmas tree. It is a symbol of the miraculous light that led the three wise men to Jesus. Wise men still seek Him! Lights illuminate the tree. Christians are to be a shining link, spreading the Good News throughout the world, of the true light of Jesus Christ. The gifts that will adorn the base of your Christmas tree are reminders of Christ's sacrificial gift of forgiveness and eternal life to all who receive Him as Savior and Lord.! Thank you and Merry Christmas from the Liberty Chamber of Commerce! Ron Johnson, Debbie Adams, Teresa Bruchon, Gail Morgan, Carol Wall, Kevin Bowman, Stephanie Gee, Gwen Daye, Tabitha Schenkel, Tommy Haithcox, Ray Hudson, and Cheryl Wells.!

Tips for insulin dependent diabetics from Dr. Don!

!

Dear Dr. Don, I am a 64 insulin dependent diabetic. I’m not sure what is going on with my meter, but I think it is broken. Every time I test my sugar, the reading comes back, “error-high”. It was working when I went to the doctor yesterday for a chest infection and he gave me shots of an antibiotic and steroid.!

!

NEW IP RSH E N OW NEW S UCT D O PR Look w e N

Dear Leader Readers: That is a phone call I received from a patient last year. Her being sick and the medicine her doctor gave her caused her sugar to spike to dangerous levels and she ended up in the intensive care unit for several days. Here are a few things I believe every insulin dependent diabetic (or patients who take a pill that helps your body produce insulin) should know and prepare for to prevent emergencies. As I’ve mentioned before, my son is a diabetic and I have learned these things over the years. If you are diabetic and not on insulin or a pill that helps your body produce insulin, you should still know some of these things.!

!

Tip 1: If you don’t trust the reading on your meter, test it on a family member or friend. As meter prices come down (some companies are giving them away now), have a backup meter to get a second reading. You may know another diabetic that you could borrow their meter to get a reading on and compare against yours. If your meter is not accurate, you could be over dosing or under dosing your medicine.! Tip 2: When you are sick, whether you are able to eat or not, test your blood sugar. A common misconception is that if you don’t eat or drink, your blood sugar will not increase. This is not true. It is common when we get sick for our blood sugar to go high even if we don’t eat. ! Tip 3: Some medicine can make your blood sugar go higher than normal, especially corticosteroids (prednisone, prednisolone, methylprednisolone). This time of year, cold and flu season, steroids are commonly prescribed by doctors. I have seen some patients hospitalized because their blood sugar went too high due to corticosteroid use and not dosing their insulin accordingly. If your doctor prescribes a steroid for you, make sure he or she is aware you are diabetic and you have a plan.! Tip 4: Always keep some form of sugar or quick carbohydrate source close by in case your blood sugar drops too low.! Tip 5: Keep an up to date glucagon emergency injection kit with you. If your sugar drops so low that you lose consciousness, someone will need to inject you with this… whether a family member or emergency medical personnel. Glucagon quickly forces your body to release stores of sugar into your bloodstream. Make sure you and a family member or friend review how to use the device so when an emergency arises, they will be able to use it. MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS NEVER TO GIVE AN UNCONSCIOUS PATIENT ANY FORM OF FOOD OR DRINK TO BRING SUGAR LEVELS UP!! ! Tip 5: Regardless of what the marketing of your meter says, the fingertips are the most accurate place to test your sugar. To prevent callouses and nerve damage, switch fingers and sites on the fingers when testing sugar. For example: test the left sides of all 10 fingertips, then the middles of all finger tips then the right sides of all fingertips.! Tip 6: Keep individually wrapped urine ketone testing sticks. Bottles of ketone testing sticks that aren’t individually wrapped go bad quickly. Even though the individually wrapped sticks are more expensive, in the long run they are worth it. You want to use a ketone urine testing stick whenever you have a several consecutive high blood sugar readings. If you have ketones in your urine, your body is not receiving enough insulin. My son has a plan for what to do in such cases. You and your doctor need to have a plan too or at the very least, let him or her know you have ketones in your urine.! Tip 7: If you are low, have a predetermined and premeasured amount of carbohydrates or sugar to bring you to the level your doctor wants you to be. Also, if you take nighttime insulin, you should have a minimum blood! Tip 8: You and your doctor should have a predetermined plan of action in case you experience scenarios described in 2 and 6 above (high sugars due to sickness or whatever the reason).

"Wow… It’s Got To Be God!"

Story By Kevin Bowman

Well here it goes guys. I think over the past 10 years of doing the newspaper and living in Liberty now 46 years, most of all you know me. That would be Kevin Bowman, a local town person who happens to own the Liberty Leader. CONFESSION: I really need to get into shape and get healthier. I remember walking this summer in town and helped an Elderly Lady pull her trash can to the road. She asked me, who I was. I knew she already knew me... she has known me for over 20 years. I let her know my name and she replied: “Wow you got BIG, I remember you smaller!” Yep... OUCH! But sometimes you need that eye opener. I have tried numerous diets only to gain back my weight. So this brings me to the new concept that is not a diet, its a change of life. I know this has to be God moving on my heart for a number of reasons, so I am following God’s call and putting it out there. You see my Pastor was moved by Rick Warren’s new plan for a healthier you. Several of us over the years have seen another on his books: "Purpose-Driven Life" (40 Days to our Purpose on Earth) and how it has changed people. Now he has "The Daniel Plan" (40 Days to a Healthier Life). Well our church, Freedom Family Church, along with numerous other churches around the US is following this new plan to a healthier you. You are probably thinking: "So what is the big deal? Why is Kevin writing this article?" You know SUBWAY had Jared Fogle, who lost a lot of weight while eating Subway. He became the poster child for Subway. Well my Pastor said he felt God wanted me to be the poster child for "The Daniel Plan" in Liberty. I have been praying and felt led to do put myself out there for GOD. Each week I will be posting my success and my hiccups through this new change of life. As I have been reading the book, I see now why diets have failed. Its a change of life, not just a change in eating. My body is never mine, its GOD’S and I have failed in being a good manager of it. Well this 287 LB over-weight guy is going to let GOD do the changing, just as Daniel did in the Bible. So lets see where GOD will lead me to. I know numerous other of our locals want a better life and body and health. So why not pick up the book? (danielplan.com) If you want to learn more, Freedom Family Church is partnering with the Faith Community Nurse to offer a 6 week series every Tuesday night (starting January 28th) to help us learn together. Maybe you feel lead for your church to start a program. Lets see how much weight Liberty can loose for GOD and ourselves. The Faith Community Nurse has reviewed the book and is adapting recipes that fit our area, where you can buy foods at local stores.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

"So what is 'THE DANIEL PLAN'?" "The Daniel Plan" (danielplan.com) is a groundbreaking healthy lifestyle program founded on biblical principles and focused on 'The Essentials': Faith, Food, Fitness, Focus and Friends. The program offers an innovative approach to achieving a healthy lifestyle where people get better together by optimizing their health in each of these life areas. Each essential supports and influences the others, offering a practical step-by-step approach for anyone to follow. The essentials of Faith and Friends are what we call the “secret sauce” that makes "The Daniel Plan" so effective. The program benefits are accelerated when done in a supportive community of friends because God designed us to thrive in relationships. We have learned that the process of getting healthy and staying healthy relies on the support and encouragement of friends. With the support of God and your group, you have far more than willpower helping you to make positive changes so you can be consistent and sustain your new healthy lifestyle. The overarching message of "The Daniel Plan" is about abundance, not deprivation, and this is why the plan is both transformational and sustainable. "The Daniel Plan" teaches a step-by-step approach and offers simple ways to incorporate healthy choices into your current lifestyle. Throughout the program you are encouraged to rely on God’s power, and the application of dependable biblical principles.

"So what Is Daniel's Story?"

"The Daniel Plan" is not just another "diet". It's a healthy lifestyle based on the biblical story of Daniel, who rejected the king's rich food in order to honor God's best for him and his friends. Daniel was a young Israelite carried into captivity when the Babylonians invaded Israel. The Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, decided to train the best and the brightest of these captives so they could be placed in positions of authority within the government. King Nebuchadnezzar instituted a three-year training program and while they were being trained, the young captives were to be fed the same food found on the royal table. But Daniel knew this wouldn’t be a healthy diet, so he asked that he and three of his friends be allowed to eat healthier, and at the end of ten days, they looked better and were more robust than those who ate the king’s menu (Daniel 1:1-21). Daniel’s request was not about a diet plan; rather, he understood God wanted him to live a healthy lifestyle so he could serve God no matter where he was located. Healthy living requires faith as the foundation, trusting that God’s way is the best way, while following his prescription for your health. ! 14

Since that time the Liberty area has been fortunate to have the FCN program providing these essential services. The goal of the FCN ministry has always been to provide services to individuals with challenging health concerns. Many of these individuals are either uninsured or under-insured. The FCN also assists senior citizens with the Medicare and prescription insurance plans. In 2013 the FCN has made 1,619 individual contacts. These contacts consist of visits, screenings and educational programs. All services provided by the FCN are completely free of charge.!

!

Lori Cobb has provided the services of the FCN ministry since its inception. Lori is a Registered Nurse that is a dedicated advocate for all individuals utilizing the services of the FCN. It was originally intended that the FCN ministry would be under the Liberty Association of Churches (LAC) but due to the structure of the initial funding this was not possible. Liberty Grove United Methodist Church became the sponsoring entity for this program. Recently the FCN ministry has been placed under the direction of the LAC so that the nurse could work more efficiently with the local clergy. The Health Cabinet and the Nurse are grateful and appreciative of the support the Liberty community has given to this ministry. !

!

We also invite you to join us in this ministry by offering your time, talents, and treasures. Please call the FCN at 336-622- 5844 to explore these far-reaching opportunities!!

Harvest Good Ministry Saves You Money! Story By J.C. Parrish, Harmony Baptist Church Host Site Director!

!

One Harvest Food Ministry is a non-profit, non-denominational, faithbased organization committed to helping families by offering affordable, pre-packaged, high quality food boxes delivered to partner churches on a monthly basis."Unfortunately," said J.C. Parrish, who oversees distribution at Harmony Baptist Church, "our orders have been low”. We average only about 13 boxes a month. We need to get the word out about the program (so others will participate)." After long battle with the Food Stamp Program we got approved to take EBT for the orders back in September of this year. It took almost a year to get the approval. Since September we have only had one EBT Card purchase. You take someone getting only a $100.00 a month on food stamps. With that hundred dollars they could purchase a few boxes from One Harvest and have more food then what that $100 would buy at the local Grocery Store. !

!

"We need to get people to understand that there are no requirements for the program; it is a way to save on your food bill so your money can be used elsewhere," .!

Saving Money in the New Year Starts at the Grocery Store! (StatePoint) An overly ambitious New Year’s resolution probably won’t stick. This year, ditch the desire for all-at-once dramatic transformation. Instead, consider simple, sustainable changes to your everyday routine that can make a big impact over time. For example, if you wish to get smarter about personal finances, start by cutting back on grocery expenses, which is our third largest expense, according to US government statistics. It’s a way to save thousands annually. “Saving money at the grocery store can seem tedious. But smart strategies can eliminate time-consuming coupon clipping and save you big at the store,” says Erin Chase, the "$5 Dinner Mom," author, blogger and frugal living expert. To help you kick off the year right, Chase is offering hassle-free tips for cutting expenses:! You can save up to 70 percent on groceries by comparing prices across stores, which adds up to hundreds, even thousands of dollars annually. But manual comparison shopping can be tricky and involve running all over town. Let technology do the work for you. Over half of all consumers currently use technology to grocery shop. Get on board the trend to save money and time. For example, with a new app called Favado, you can view sale prices from multiple stores to locate the best deals. With just a few clicks from your computer or smartphone, you can enjoy the satisfaction of having paid the lowest price possible. You can also use the app to create and share shopping lists. For more information or to download the app, visit www.Favado.com.!

Loyalty Programs! “Above is the picture of the food that I purchased last month for $150 that has filled my freezer and feed our family for entire month. The Kids Box, my granddaughter has loved.”, Kevin Bowman

The #1 Family Box contains the following this month .
(Perfect for a family of 4) 3 lb Split Chicken Breast (bone-in), 2 lb Kielbasa Sausage, 2 lb Chicken & Vegetable Stir Fry Blend, 1.4 lb Bacon & Cheese Hamburgers Patties (6pcs), 21 oz Salmon Fillets (7 pcs), 5 lb RTC Popcorn Style Chicken Breast Chunks, 2 lb RTC Chicken Breast Breaded Fillets, 4 Ind. Wrapped Fully Cooked Angus Beef w/ Cheese Sliders, 1 lb Premium Ground Beef, 1 lb Lee Breakfast Sausage, 1 lb Fresh Frozen Stir Fry Veggies, 1 lb Frozen Butternut Squash, 2 lb General Mills Quick Grits, 1 lb Spaghetti (dry), 1 lb Long Grain White Rice, 7 oz. Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix, 1 Dessert Item. This box is only $37.50 plus tax. If you went to the local grocery store you would spend on the average around $70.00 for all this food.!

Compare Prices!

!

It's easy enough: Families place their orders for any of several food boxes, ranging from a "Family Box" at $37.50 or a fresh veggie box (about 15 pounds of fresh frozen vegetables, fruits and biscuits) for $25.50, to a "Super Saver Grilling Special" of chicken breasts, pork chops and hamburger patties. The food is not free, but the cost is not formidable, either, considering the amount and quality. !

E

Harmony Baptist Church is located at 873 NC Hwy 22 South, Ramseur, N.C. 27316. Our One Harvest Office will be opened on Thursday January 9th, 2014 from 6pm to 7pm to take onsite orders. All EBT purchases has to be in person. All other times would be by appointment. We accept Checks, Cash, Credit or Debit Cards, and Money Orders. You can also view the Menu’s or place a order via Credit or Debit at www.oneharvest.com. If you would like a menu mailed out to you or for more information please call 336-824-3993.!

For additional savings, sign up for loyalty or club cards. Items on sale with loyalty cards change periodically, so stock up on things you buy regularly when prices are low. Make tracking sales easier with an app like Cardstar that stores all your loyalty, rewards and membership cards in one place. This can help you rid your wallet and keychain of all those loyalty cards from multiple stores.!

Follow the Cycles! Most groceries you purchase regularly will eventually go on sale. In fact, most items go on sale every eight to 12 weeks. The key is to buy as much of the item as you need while it’s on sale to last you until the next cycle.!

Buy In-Season! In-season fruits and vegetables tend to be more affordable. Find out what is in season in your local area and purchase accordingly. A new app called Seasons can tell you what's in season locally. With 214 entries that include an image, description and seasonal stats, users can easily decide what to buy.!

Buy One, Get One! Many grocers offer buy-one, get-one free sales. This is a great way to save without clipping coupons. You can easily uncover these sales on a shopping app like Favado.! Don’t waste money paying more for groceries than necessary. With a little planning, you can score great deals on the things your family needs and wants.

2014 CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP DRIVE! by: Teresa Bruchon! There has probably been a time, while driving through Liberty, you may have noticed “The Little Red Caboose” on the corner and asked yourself “What exactly is the Chamber of Commerce?” “What do they do?” and “Why do they have an office in a train car?”! Let's clarify....FYI: ! What is the Chamber of Commerce?! The Chamber of Commerce is a business and community association. We operate on the premise that “people working together can achieve more than any of us can individually.” The Liberty Chamber was established in 1969. We are not a department of the “Town of Liberty”. We are not part of any local, state, or federal government. We are a non-profit organization. We are not financially supported by any government entities. The chamber is funded strictly by membership dues, and generates revenue through event sponsorships.! What does the Chamber of Commerce do?! The Chamber works to promote an enhanced business atmosphere for all businesses here in Liberty. We engage in the community. We get involved. We provide networking opportunities for local businesses. We offered input from the local business perspective, to the NC STEP program. We organize community events throughout the year for your businesses to take part in. We offer promotional opportunities for your business. Although we are not a department of the town of Liberty, we do partner with the town to establish a working relationship for community events such as the July Celebration and the Christmas Parade. Where as the Christmas Parade is completely a chamber organized event that requests the support of the town of Liberty. The July Celebration is a town of Liberty organized event that requests the support of the chamber.! Why do we have our office in a train car?! Our office is currently housed in the “red caboose” on the corner of S. Greensboro St. and Swannannoa Ave. The caboose was purchased by the town of Liberty form the Southern Railway. The caboose sits on town owned property. Liberty is a railroad town. It was once a hub of commerce that was provided through the railway. Merchandise not only was shipped into town, but merchandise manufactured here was also exported out of town via the train. What better icon to represent the Liberty Chamber of Commerce than a “Little Red Caboose!” ! Here is a dozen reasons why you / your business should join the Liberty Chamber of Commerce? ! 1) To increase visibility within the community! 2) To increase customer awareness! 3) To increase customer favorability ! 4) To establish creditability! 5) To improve local reputation! 6) To increase likelihood of future patronage! 7) It's affordable ! 8) It's easily accessible! 9) Networking opportunities! 10) Establishes business contacts! 11) Provides customer referrals! 12) Offers promotional and publicity events and opportunities! Chamber membership offers value; via opportunities of professional development, networking, and new business prospects. We hope you decide to make a good business decision in 2014 by joining the Liberty Chamber of Commerce. To pick up your membership application or for more information please call (336) 622-4937!

2013 was ended with a great ONE CHURCH Music Night on Dec 29. A program of Liberty Association Of Churches when there is a fifth Sunday night all the local churches get together for a night of music, song and worship. This was a great night of so many talented people. From kids to adults, so many types of music was filling the air. This event was held this time at Freedom Family Church but is hosted at different churches each time. Just a few of the churches that was represented with Edwards Grove Baptist Church (youth and adult choir), Church Of God, Grace Lutheran Church, Freedom Family Church (youth and adult choir), local group Hour 3. Several other churches was in attendance. As usual they collected can food for the food bank in addition to a love offering to go to the LAC Food Ministry and Emergency Assistance Fund. I love the theme that has started in Liberty, the ONE CHURCH. In God’s eye we are ONE People with ONE God and have ONE Mission. Yes we have several Churches in our area, but we are all part of the ONE CHURCH in God’s eye. As Pastor Randy Hand stated that night, “You know how it is when you see all your children getting along and having fun together, you look out as a parent and it makes you so happy. I think GOD is happy tonight, for he loves it when all HIS children get together to have fun and worship together.” That is what has happened over the past several events hosted by the LAC. !
