STALEY, Randolph County North Carolina I visited this small town yesterday that is found south of the Greensboro area and spotted this old house that Lori Staley Truzy had posted before. This is the home of the founder of the small community, Col. John W. Staley and it was built in 1883 and has eight replaces. John Staley gave land to the railroad when it came through the area and the trains hauled a good amount of soap stone from here that was mined nearby. Staley has a population of less than 400 people and still has a railroad running through it and a great place to stop and get a meal is the Main Street Grill. I had a cheese dog, a large sweet tea, and took home six fried apples pies which quickly disappeared when I got home as my grandkids where at the house. Two other towns in the states of Washington and Missouri are named for Staley brothers from this family. Enlarge the photo to check out my friend looking back at me More info JOHN W. STALE FAN 18 191 Added by Jaso For his new family of ve children Colonel John STALEY built in 1883 a large two story frame hous including green shutters around all windows on whit clapboards with four chimneys supplying heat at eigh replaces on both rst and second oors of thi massive structure on the eastern edge of his father lan that he had inherited A Post Of ce was established there in 1883 a Staleyville. It was incorporated in 1901 as Staley i eastern Randolph County, North Carolina. The tow was named for its founder Colonel John W. Staley because he donated land for the railroad to have righ away through the town and to build a "Stale Passenger Depot". This would enable passenger servic north to Liberty, Mount Pleasant and Greensboro i Guilford County. This railroad enabled rai transportation of crushed soap stone for making o talcum at a nearby processing plant just north o Staley. The silky soft soap stone was dug from a larg open pit mine known as the Soap Stone Mountai northwest of Staley that was owned by the Staley a McMaster familie
