Why Should I Care?

Recently several voters have told me “I don’t really care about the local school board. I don’t have children in school.”

Why should you care?

43% of your property tax dollars go directly to Guilford County Schools. Another 9% goes to educaGon debt.

The quality of life in your community hinges on the educaGon of those in your community.

There is a correlaGon between the level of educaGon and crime.

Economic development is dependent upon an educated ciGzenry.

Companies considering Guilford County for relocaGon or further development want their employees’ children to be well educated.

The quality of local government is impacted by the quality of local educaGon.

Your day-to-day interacGon with businesses is impacted by the quality of educaGon of their employees.

The primary indicator of poverty is educaGon.

The number of social services required by a community is related to the quality of educaGon in that community.

The decisions made by the local Board of EducaGon range from days and Gmes students are in school to the number of buses on the road. In many cases, the decisions made by the local Board of EducaGon are the single most influenGal parameters that govern the lives of families with school aged children. That reverberates through almost every acGvity a person engages in from going to the grocery store to geRng medical care to visiGng the DMV.

In essence, the elecGon of representaGves to the local Board of EducaGon has both an immediate and ulGmate impact on the quality of a community. Choosing Board of Educa G on representaGon is an important decision to be made by an informed voter. Informed voters pave the way for freedoms in our country. Be a catalyst for quality of life and freedom in Guilford County and be an informed voter on November 8.

New arch at the cemetery looks amazing!!

Save the date for Field of Honor, November 11-13

The Asheboro Rotary Club and the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce are joining together again to present the Field of Honor during Veteran’s Day weekend this year. From Friday, November 11, through Sunday, November 13, the baseball field at South Asheboro Middle School will be transformed into the Field of Honor with U.S. flags posted in perfect rows and columns in tribute of heroes. The public will be able to sponsor flags in recognition of their heroes, including veterans, active duty service men and women, fi rst responders, and any personal heroes. More information about buying flags, the opening and closing ceremonies, and sponsorships will be provided in the coming weeks.

1 Million Transplants Milestone Surpassed with Help from DMV Partners

September 20, 2022, (Winston-Salem, NC) – On Friday, September 9th, the United States organ donaGon system surpassed 1 million organ transplants, the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) has announced. HonorBridge, a member of the naGonwide organ donaGon and transplant system responsible for reaching the historic landmark, credits the collaboraGon, innovaGon, and passion of its fellow members for making it possible. This milestone was reached during NaGonal DMV AppreciaGon Month when DMV staff are recognized as vital partners in saving and healing lives. It is due to the commitment of DMV staff asking all customers, age 16 and up, the donor registraGon quesGon every day that achievements like this are possible.

The vast majority of donor registraGons in the US and NC come through DMV transacGons. DMV offices and their employees have an invaluable role in increasing the number of registered organ, eye and Gssue donors.

“This is an historical achievement for saving lives and the DMV is a crucial link helping nearly 13 million North Carolinians register their decisions to be deceased organ, eye and Gssue donors,” said Chuck Heald, Director of CommunicaGons at HonorBridge. “Through their dedicaGon to the Donate Life mission, DMV leadership and staff bring hope to the 100,000 plus men, women and children waiGng for lifesaving transplants each Gme they ask a customer if they would like to register as a donor.”

There are state donor registries and the NaGonal Donate Life Registry. When you register at the NC DMV, you are registering in your state donor registry. Both your state donor registry and the NaGonal Donate Life Registry are checked by HonorBridge donaGon professionals at the Gme of your death. Your most recent decision is honored as the legal document of gih. You can register online at the NaGonal Donate Life Registry anyGme at RegisterMe.org/NC.

Many common services, such as driver license and vehicle registraGon renewal, ordering a duplicate license or ID, and vehicle registraGon can be done online at any Gme. If you need to visit the NC DMV in person, try to make an appointment, bring needed documentaGon, and make your decision about registering as an organ, eye and Gssue donor. This will make your visit easier for you and the DMV staff.
