Local Eric King Gets Eagle Scout Mayor Fil York presented Eric Preston King with his proclamation from the Town Of Liberty and told the council and audience how he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. Showing support for Eric were his father Preston King and grandfather Oscar King. Eric Preston King of Liberty was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on Feb 13 at his Court Of Honor Ceremony held at First United Methodist Church in Liberty. Eric completed the requirements for the Eagle rank on Nov 11, 2015. To earn the rank of Eagle, a Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle project. Eric earned 35 merit badges and for his project he partnered with the 100 Man Project, a non-profit organization in Liberty, to replace or add visible reflective address house numbers signs in the area. As a second part of his project, he helped to raise awareness of the importance and need for clear visible address signs, to ensure the promptness of emergency vehicles. Story Continued Page 4

Scott Kidd Storied Continued From Page 1 I got to sit down with Scott one afternoon and loved our conversation and his passions for his field. I asked Scott what led him in to this field and Liberty. Scott replied, “My love for sports and community was the biggest reason I moved into this field. As far as Liberty, I wanted to get back to a small community again. Growing up in a small town, I have love for that. Also living just down the road in Siler City, I can be closer to my family, which is very important to me. That at the end of the day is what makes my day more than anything, spending time with my family.” Scott's love for God radiated out of his conversation. That is very refreshing, to see people talk and live for God . I asked Scott if he had a role model to share. Scott grinned and shared, “My Pastor, he always put God first in his life and always has faith no matter what the situation he is going through.” Well, this showed. I asked Scott if he had a great piece of advice to share. He said that was easy, “Always follow your heart and Trust God in all you do!” I was curious if Scott had a great memory while being with Parks and Rec. He told me it was hosting the 2011 Dixie Baseball World Series for 2 different age groups. Wow, that was impressive. I asked Scott if he had anything he wanted to share with the readers. Scott shared, “Well, I am excited to be part of this town. I am even more excited for the future. I was part of the town management planning session in February and we all talked about the future and direction. Just looking forward 5 years down the road is exciting. You see, recreation is more than just sports. Recreation is many things to many people. I am looking forward to seeing new avenues of recreation come to Liberty. I would also like the community to know I am here to hear the good and the bad. I encourage suggestions for the future. I have an open door policy and I encourage for people to reach out to me via email skidd@rtelco.net Also we have added a page on FaceBook for Parks and Recreation. I will be keeping it and the town webpage updated for you to follow. www.liberty-nc.com " I am excited to see what the future holds. Tell Scott hi when you see him.
Erick King Storied Continued From Page 1 Eric is a member of Boy Scout Troop 502, chartered to Liberty Rotary Club. He is a sophomore at Providence Grove High School and a member of the FFA Hunter Safety Team. Eric is the son of Preston and Kim King and grandson of Darlene Moore and Oscar King, all of Liberty. To get to know this young man better, I enlisted one of his close friends, Logan Bray, also student at PGHS to do an interview with him. Logan asked, “Out of all the things you had to do to get to become an Eagle Scout, what was the hardest?” Eric replied, “Trying to get all the paperwork done in a timely manner.” Logan asked ,”Out of the experiences, what was your favorite one?” Eric had a big smile and shared, “Going to far away places, traveling with the Scouts to get my awards and badges.” Logan was curious and asked a great question, “How did being in Scouts and becoming an Eagle Scout affect your everyday life?” Eric quickly replied, “It helped me put my best foot forward, put others first, and makes me appreciate what I have and what I give to others.” Eric continued, “Getting my Eagle Scout means alot to me because when I started Scouts a lot of the older ones were Eagle Scouts and I always said I wanted to be one.” Logan asked, “What advice would you give to someone who wants to achieve the same position as you are?” “Keep working and don't give up, it takes a while however it is worth the extra effort,” replied Eric. Logan asked Eric to sum up his experience with scouting and his future goals since he got his Eagle Scout. Eric replied, “My goals are to help my fellow, younger Scouts achieve the same position and also to get the remaining Eagle Palms. I also have to thank my dad, Pres King, he encouraged me to go the extra mile. I've been in Scouts since the 1st grade. I pretty much grew up in it.” Logan was curious and inquired to Eric, “Does being in Scouts help you in school, and how?” Without hesitation Eric said, “Yes,it helps. Certain merit badges you have to know certain things which I can add to what I learn in school." In conclusion Logan asked, “What is the most helpful thing you learned in Scouts?” Eric thought for a while and replied, “First Aid, It helped me get my job as a life guard for Asheboro City Pools.”

Local Event Planner Honors Mom With Awesome New Year Music Event / Benefit
Local Lakisha D Farrar (known by her promoting name Lakisha D), did an outstanding job on the music event that was called “New Years Explosion”. It was held at Church Of God Of Prophecy, which is located at 902 W Swannanoa Ave in Liberty. Plates were sold starting at 3pm with chicken, fish, pork chop, hotdogs, and chitterlings. The event doors opened at 4pm with praise and worship starting at 4:45. The tickets were $12 @ the door. They had numerous great groups from all around. I caught up with Lakisha and asked her how this all came about. Lakisha shared, “I started planning Oct of 2015 to just have a gospel quartet singing in my hometown.” She added, “I do them everywhere else so I wanted to bring a concert to Liberty.” This is when the real magic started as her eyes sparkled. “You see, two weeks before Christmas we found out mom had breast cancer. I thought about canceling the program but I prayed about it and decided to make it a benefit for my mom. It was a huge success for her. “ I told her that was a terrific thing to do for her mom. She went on to explain to me, “Mom has taken care of me and has been there for me all my life. So now it's my turn to take care of her. “ Wow Mom, you did a great job raising this girl. I love seeing and hearing stories like this. Lakisha wanted everyone to know this: "I want to say Thank You to the community for the love and support shown to us. Faith is the key and has kept and is keeping us!” What a great word to share. She also told me that on June 10, at the same location, Church Of God in Liberty, she will be bringing another event “Legacy In Liberty”. Which will be hosted by J-RU and featuring groups like The C a n t o n S p i r i t u a l s o f Canton, Mississippi, The Swannee Quintet of Georgia, Reverence of Spartanburg,SC, Justified of Sumter, SC, Perkins and Envision of Greensboro, Brothers In Christ of Dillon, SC and more. Tickers are $15 in advance or $20 day of event. Call her at 336-233-6621 to order your tickets.

By Kevin Bowman I am so excited to be sharing all the great things on point for the 2106 Festival. This year the team (Liberty Redevelopment Committee) is working on adding a color run to the event. The current planning stage is to have a run before the event that morning. The event will end in downtown and red, white and blue colors to be tossed. Can you not imagine all those color left on the street for the day of the festival. More details to follow as a planning group coordinate the details. I am so excited to see a total of 12 people have stepped up to help plan this portion of the event. Many hands make light work . This is where we hope to have other volunteers to help. We have already booked three of the four bands. They are the Castaways, Kieth Bartell and the Mighty Shelltones. The team has already started receiving request for applications for vendors. This year we have locations for vendors that want to leave by 6pm and the rest are in place until 10pm. The bands will play longer and only one stage. Between the bands we will be bringing back the free kids contest and games that went so great last year. We are making a call out to community, churches and individuals to help be part of the KIDS ZONE. The Kids Zone will all be FREE again, parents do not need to worry about paying, each kid will get to have FUN for FREE this day. If you would like to see how you can be part of this us know. You can visit and learn more and follow the details at www.celebrateliberty.org and can reach us by email at celebrateliberty@gmail.com

Cub Pack/ Scout troop 502 of Liberty collected, sorted and made ready for stock 668 items for the local food pantry here in Liberty at the LAC Food Pantry during their Feb Food Drive. Nice job guys!
With great sadness I have to write about another business in Liberty that is closing its door. The same day my paper hits the stores is the same day this business will be closing its doors. That would be Gracies Veggie Box in downtown Liberty on S Greensboro St. This business took over Randy’s Produce that was struggling and grew from its small location next to Dollar General to a larger business location on S Greensboro St. She brought numerous additions to make it a vibrant business. By adding U Haul to bill pay. She support locally owned business and farmers. But it takes local to shop and visit her business. She gave greatly to the community by giving vouchers to the Liberty Assoc Of Churches Food Pantry. Gracies Veggie Box Shared, “To all my customers and friends and family as of Friday March 4, the Veggie Box will be closed! We had a good run thank you Liberty, I meet a lot of good people and made alot of great friends. God be with you all! Folks we need to support our local ….shop local… eat local … play local.

Fight Cancer with Your Fork Healthy eating and exercise can sometimes seem like a burden, but it doesn’t have to be. It can be as simple as choosing an apple over a cupcake or walking for 10 minutes instead of sitting. Besides helping manage weight, healthy eating and exercise can also help lower your risk for diabetes, high blood pressure and even cancer. Karen Pfohl, RD, LDN, clinical dietitian with Randolph Cancer Center, will host a community seminar called Fight Cancer with Your Fork. The event will be held on Thursday, March 31st, 2016 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the Private Dining Room at Randolph Hospital. Participants are invited to learn about healthy, balanced, diets, which focus on heart-healthy eating by incorporating fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. During her presentation, Pfohl will conduct a healthy and delicious meal demonstration and participants will have a chance to taste and take the recipe home with them. Fight Cancer with Your Fork is a free event that is open to the community. It is one of several community events offered throughout the year. Please register for this event by logging on to www.randolphhospital.org and clicking the “Events” tab, or by calling (336) 633-7788.

A Christian speaker and Bible teacher, Jean Padgett uses this four-story miniature house in presentations to church groups across the Southeast. The house demonstrates the concept that our heart is Christ's home. Hebrews 3:6a tells us that "We are his (God's) house." Just as there are many rooms in a house, so are there many areas of our lives. Jean compares the rooms of the house to different aspects of our lives. During the program Jean shares personal experiences from her own spiritual journey. She also shares many beautiful Scripture verses that have encouraged, comforted, challenged, and corrected her. Her husband, David Padgett, wrote and recorded the theme song for the program. BRUNCH WILL BE SERVED

The children’s play will be performed by UNCG’s North Carolina Theatre for Young People. Just like the book, the play is driven by its delightfully distinctive personalities. Due to an unfortunate accident with a rhino in London, resulting in the loss of both his parents, James is sent to live with his cruel aunts, Spiker and Sponge. Fear not, hope arrives in an unexpected magical gift, saving James from their grasp. This gift provides escape into a giant peach inhabited by a group of quirky bugs. Craving a little adventure, these new friends sail that giant peach into the treacherous ocean waves. This production is suitable for all ages with an approximate running time of 60 minutes. To get your free tickets, go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/unc-g-little-theatre-productionof-james-and-the-giant-peach-tickets-18892246217. Seating is limited. RCC’s Asheboro Campus is located at 629 Industrial Park Avenue. Take the McDowell Road exit off of U.S. 220 Bypass/I73-I74 and follow the signs.

Obstacles Rolled Away By: Andy Clapp As the sun rose that Resurrection morning, they gathered what they would need to prepare the body of Jesus. The women set out on their journey to the tomb and pondered aloud as to how they would be able to do what needed to be done. They had prepared bodies before, but this time would be much more difficult. In an attempt to stop anyone from stealing the body of Jesus, a large stone had been rolled in front of the tomb’s opening to secure the grave. A seal had been placed on top of the stone. The tomb was as secure as man could possibly make it. Mark records their discussion along the path in this way, “And they said among themselves, ‘Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?’” (Mark 16:3 NKJV) As they went to do what they needed to do, they focused on the obstacle that stood in the way. The stone was huge. There was absolutely no possibility that they could move such a stone. They neglected to reflect on the promise Jesus had made that He would rise again. They failed to think about the power of God they had witnessed on display in the One whose tomb they were visiting. Their thoughts were only on what stood in the way. Arriving at the tomb, they would once again see the power of God and the Lord’s ability to overcome obstacles. Mark continues, “But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away – for it was very large.” (Mark 16:4 NKJV) What stood in their way had been rolled away, not through the strength or the power of man but by the power of God! So often, we have a mindset similar to the mindset the women had that day. Yes, we have seen the power of God. We have experienced the power of God. Unfortunately, though, we continue to focus on the obstacles that stand in the way of us reaching the place God has called us to be, the place where He wants us. Every time we are called to do something, there will be obstacles. Those obstacles will come in a wide variety of shapes and forms. Our hope is this – we believe in and rely on a God who can remove and overcome any obstacle that stands in the way! Rather than being timid or even frozen by a fear of what may stand in the distance, we can push forward each day in confidence because we know Who it is that goes before us! The One who spoke the world into motion, the One who parted the Red Sea, the One who calmed the storm, the One who overcame the grave and rolled the stone away is the One who will help us push beyond all that seeks to stop us from fulfilling His will!

The Liberty Leader Newspaper March 2016 MEGA SITE/ What is an Elected Official? Get Out And Vote An elected official is someone selected to represent the people, the average tax paying individual. These officials must carefully use our tax dollars providing us with all possible amenities and have the fore site far into the future with consideration on our current needs. These officials must consider our current infrastructure and projected need for expansion based on forecast of expected change in population. WE pay our taxes to our towns, county, state and federal government. WE hear all the negatives about our leaders, but we seldom hear the positives our leaders have accomplished or the programs currently in consideration. Within this article we want to touch on Randolph County and the State of North Carolina. Everyone is the recipients of some type of benefit program put in place by our elected officials. The Town of Liberty has received 1.3 million from NC through grants to improve water and sewer infrastructure. Raleigh and Randolph County has worked hand and hand creating incentive packages to bring jobs to Randolph County. AS we look back we see Michael Thomas Furniture now Charter Furniture, Worcester Controls now Computer Concepts. Ultra Craft has been here since 1986 providing 300 plus jobs. Americhem continues to grow and expand. These industries have created many jobs thanks to creation of incentives by our elected officials. These incentives are tax dollars at work returning revenue to Randolph County and the state of North Carolina thereby eliminating necessary tax increases. We are in the shadows of 2 Mega Sites. Our County and State Officials are looking into the future hoping to attract a large manufacture by investing into land and infrastructure. It is a gamble, but land and infrastructure has always been a good investment, it isn’t going anywhere, unlike the lottery and other investments of chance. The Randleman Dam was a vision of elected officials many years ago, but look at it now, providing water to cities in two counties for many years into the future. With population in consideration, our elected officials have allocated tax dollars to build ambulance bases and new schools throughout the county providing education. We have elected officials in Randolph County and in Raleigh that believes to continue at our current growth in population, we must invest into our future by creating jobs. All states and counties are faced with the same challenges and have programs in place to attract good paying jobs. We don’t need to change course, we need to keep pounding forward with our current leaders. These leaders are tested to make decisions based on common sense of what it takes to prepare for the future. Don’t move us back in time by electing the wrong individual with an agenda to stop forward progress such as our Mega Site and eliminating incentives. Our elected officials have heard from the protesters; now let them hear from the supporters. Support our Mega Site by re-electing our incumbent elected officials. Ramseur author weaves emotional story about relationships, love, forgiveness in new Christian novel RAMSEUR, N.C. — Author Tracey Marley creates an intriguing, Christian romantic fiction, “Forgiveness for Yesterday.” This emotion-filled sequel of “Promise of Tomorrow” the first book of the “Heritage” series, is set for nationwide release this week. “Forgiveness for Yesterday” revolves around best friends Bret Sears and Chris Lanning. It is a story of a man with a past, another man with a secret and the women who love them both. The story starts with Bret and Karen McMasters, entering into a season of love with Chris and fighting the battle for his soul. The steps Chris has taken to turn his life around after the mysterious disappearance of his one true love, Laurie Callahan, sends him slipping further and further into a pit of despair that he doesn’t know how to get out of. Will Chris end it all or cry out to God for help? And what will happen when he finally comes face-to-face with the woman who started it all? On the other hand, will the secret sins Bret is entangled in destroy his and Karen’s relationship, or will it teach him a lesson he will never forget? Find out in “Forgiveness for Yesterday,” where God patiently reveals what it truly means to forgive and to be forgiven. Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, the book is available through bookstores nationwide, from the publisher at www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore, or by visiting barnesandnoble.com or amazon.com. Marley, who is an award-winning writer and graphic designer, resides in central North Carolina with her husband, Chad, and their two children.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when ...the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there." The little boy then understood how powerful his words were. He looked up at his father and said "I hope you can forgive me father for the holes I put in you." "Of course I can," said the father. It's not always anger, it is your actions in general. There are no "fresh starts" in life. There is no new beginning. Forgiveness comes easy for many people but the scars of the past, they never go away. Watch what you do today, because sometimes the price isn't worth the reward.
