Local Family Wins Farm Family Of Year" Rockin’ B Farm of Staley, won the 2014 North Carolina Outstanding Conservation Farm Family Award. Rockin’ B Farm is owned and operated by an awesome family in the community and that would be Mickey and Shelly Bowman. Rockin' B Farm raised and sells pastured pork products and home grown Santa Gertrudis Beef. They received there award on Sept 25 at the Randolph County Soil and Water Celebration. Congress Woman Renee Ellmers and Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxel was in attendance for recognizing this great family. As you can see from the group shot, this farm is a proud family farm. They have a great family and family values that makes this a working farm great. They truly have a special thing going on at this farm. We loose so much in our society today from running and hustling that we miss the things that made this community, that we call home, great. Farms get taken for granted. Some of my own personal memories I cherish to this day is the times spend on my grandparents farms. The Conservation Farm Family Program, what is it exactly? The North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, in partnership with the NC State Grange, announces the conservation Farm Family Program for 2014. The program recognizes farmers/farm families who have achieved a high level of natural resource stewardship by applying and maintaining innovative and cost effective conservation practices, are actively involved in conservation education, and have demonstrated strong community involvement. Participant Eligibility: Each soil and water conservation district is eligible to nominate one individual or group of individuals involved in a single farming operation. This program is open to all farmers, including district supervisors. Nominees must derive a substantial portion of their income from their farm business.“Substantial” is defined as more than 50%. You can find products from Rockin’ B Farm at Sportsman Supply on Hwy 49 Between Liberty and Staley.

Local Dentist Office Gives Back ! It's golfing time again, and for local dentist, Dr. Chip Butler and Assistant Renee Brady, that means volunteering for Christina's Smile Dental Outreach. For the past eight years, both Dr. Butler and Renee have been using their time and talents to give back to the community as wellas a few from the west coast of Africa. The clinic is held in conjunction with the PGA Tour and Wyndham Golf Tournament at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. This week-long event relies on dentists and volunteers to staff and run a full service dental outreach clinic for needy children. Dr. Butler's first patient was from the Sudan and he also treated children from the Congo, Mexico, and the U.S. Forty children were treated daily and the event is sponsored by the PGA golfing professionals. Christina's Smile is a non-profit children's dental clinic named after Christina Garza, a 12 year old girl from Texas. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the clinic. "Volunteering is so very rewarding but giving back locally has been so much more rewarding than volunteering in Third World countries" remarked Dr. Butler. (Dr. Butler has volunteered in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, St. Lucia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and Belize).! Thanks to Dr. Butler and his excellent dental staff for volunteering to help make a difference in the lives of children.!

2015 Medicare Open Enrollment will be here soon!

!Medicare Open Enrollment for

2015 Advantage plans and Part D plans is around the corner. From October 15-December 7 is the time to compare plans to see if staying in your current plan will best fit your needs. Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) Counselors can help you determine if enrolling in a different plan for 2015 will save you money and/or give you better coverage. !

!In order to help you, SHIIP

Counselors will need your Medicare card, a list of your medications including dosage and a list of your doctors. Due to the volume of people we serve we cannot make appointments, however, if you are unable to come in and wait for assistance you can pick up a Plan Finder Tool form at our office or one can be mailed or emailed to you for you to complete and return. We will then contact you with the results and let you know if you should keep your current plan or switch to a different one. If a different plan is better, we can enroll you so you will have a plan for 2015 that will best fit your needs. To receive a Plan Finder Tool form, call Margie DiDona or Lisa Alley, SHIIP Coordinators at 336-625-3389 and leave a message with your name and address or email us at rcsaa2@senioradults.org or rcsaa@senioradults.org.!

Something Spooky This Way Comes!

!Raleigh St. in Liberty is a quiet neighborhood

street, but that will change a little bit as Halloween gets closer. You see, there is a Halloween enthusiast on that street who prepares year round for the month of October. Trish Redding has a unique hobby of building her own Halloween props. She builds tombstones, skeletons, scarecrows, and countless other creepy things. "Just call me the Halloween Queen!" she laughs.! She built Bucky, her first corpse prop, last year. Everyone loved Bucky so much it just inspired her to build a whole herd of spooky props this year. "I love getting creative and using different materials. It's not unusual to find my hands covered in paint, glue, or even spray foam. Some of these techniques I learned online and others came from my imagination" she says. Trish hopes to share her love of Halloween with the community. Her haunted display will be available for tours on October 28-30 from 7:30 to 8:30. Halloween night there will be a few monsters lurking around a haunted trail. Feel free to take pictures. Everything is free, but she is asking for can food donations to support the LAC food bank. "This is my chance to do what I love and help the community at the same time. Halloween is a time to have fun and be spooked a little. It's my time of year!"! Want to go? She is at 361 E. Raleigh St. in Liberty. It will take about three weeks to get the full display ready by October 28.!

Local Eagle Scout Project! Jacob Barbre from Scout 518 in Grays Chapel, NC built 3 picnic tables for his Eagle Scout Project with the help of his dad, Neal Barbre, for the Deep River Nature Trail in Randleman, NC. They were placed on Aug 16 in 3 different beautiful locations along the trail for all ages to enjoy. The Scouts in attendance for the tables to be placed were, Simon Barbre, Clae Houle, Trevor and Spencer Hinshaw, Christian and Gabriel Kirkpatrick and Shay. The Scout leaders that were there supervising were Don Hinshaw and Neal Barbre. ! His family is very proud of him for all that he has accomplished in the 3 short years that he has been a Scout. The family would like to thank the City Of Randleman for allowing Jacob to carry out this Eagle project at the nature trail. ! You can follow the progress from him digging his first hole, to the level finish table, to the boys clowing around because they were calling it a day well done to them receiving recognition at Randleman Town Meeting for this achievement at the trail.
