Oncological Prevention Center(2/2)
diploma thesis
This diploma project is a design for a Cancer Prevention Center and an extension of the Department of Radiation Oncology of the Masaryk Institute of Oncology in Brno. There are no adequate spatial reserves in the existing hospital campus, or inside its buildings. New technology and modernisation require increased capacity of the Masaryk Institute of Oncology and improvement of the area by new development offering services like cancer prevention or proton therapy facilities.
Oncological Prevention Center(1/2)
prediploma thesis
The design of the oncology prevention center replaces non-functional buildings that are part of the Oncology Hospital on Žlutý kopec in Brno. The concept strictly adhered to the disposition record, with several basic parameters: convenient parking, pleasant waiting rooms, a café not only for visitors/staff and offer a view towards the gardening colony and Špilberk, as the bedrooms in the current hospital are oriented more to the south ).
The shape of the design is divided into three masses. On the 3rd floor, the building is connected by a classic tunnel corridor which leads to the sleeping area. Bedrooms are meant for patients who are not bedridden and undergo treatment once a day. In the western part, there is also an ambulance, an dispaly center(MRI,roentgen, CT=computed tomography,..) and a multi-purpose gym, which should serve as an auditorium. The eastern part is used more for public use. In addition to apartments primarily serving staff includes rentable offices and surgeries. These parts are connected by one hall, which tries to provide visitors with pleasant waiting areas, instead of closed waiting rooms. The design envisages the second phase, when the gazebo is connected to the garden (western part of the design).

“I’m not afraid of death; I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”
- Woody AllenWhat it means to live a content life is a question we pondered while designing the nursing home for the elderly. Have you ever thought about how would you like to die? Movie industry proposes ideal picture: Spacious illuminated room with family surrounding you and you contentedly passing away.
The area of interest is located in Baťa hospital in Zlin area. Considering the planned moving of Baťa hospital, the future of the area is unclear and because of that we did not consider the surroundings important. The main areas of importance were self-sufficiency of the nursing home building and preserving its outdoor spaces. Mass consists of two buildings that converge and thus create a half atrium between them. Next important element was the room and social spaces. We tried to give a man a opportunity to choose. Rooms are spaces where one can spend time alone. At the same time one can at any time walk out to the corridor, which does not only functions as a communication, but mainly as a common living space for meeting and spending of free time. Long glazed corridors get plenty of daylight, a view to greenery and overview of what is happening in the second house. Both houses are in contact not only visually, but also spatially as in each floor there is a connecting bridge between the houses.

MANUFACTORY +housing
The area of interest is located in the center of Zlín, adjacent to the theater, currently it is grassy and unused. The area bisects by the brook, which is exposed and forms the basic idea of the division of objects. In the northern part there is a manufactory connected by two corridor tunnels above the stream, in the southern part there is an apartment building, which should serve as housing for the manufacturer’s employees and thus connect work and living in the city center.
Manufactory
The manufacturer produces gloves from the Holík company. On the 1st floor of the left building there are warehouses for materials and finished products. The material travels by elevator to the 2nd floor, where they are processed for printing. They are brought through the tunnel corridor to the right building where the sewing machines are, after making the gloves, they return through the second northern tunnel corridor, where they are ironed and wrapped. This creates a processing cycle. It is then stored in a warehouse on the mezzanine floor of the 1st floor and exported from there. In the administrative part, the layout is concentrated around a gallery with a staircase. The 3rd floor is the development headquarters with sewing, cutting workshops, a handy warehouse and a laboratory. The showroom is accessible only from the street side and at the level of the 1st floor. The stream is lined on one side by a wooden pier and on the other bank there are residential stairs.
Apartment building
There is underground parking for the apartment building, which also serves the manufactory. It is entered from Potoky Street under the right building of the manufactory, in which it also has a staircase core. You then drive out the building under the apartment building to Divadelní Street.

The surroundings of Provazníkova Street and Tomkova square have lost their urban character over time, and the existing transport solutions as well as the preparation for its modification have made the place a desurbanized space. The project deals with the question of whether it is possible to live near a large transport structure, which makes the place unattractive at first glance.

Chapel
The assignment was a student chapel, so the building is located in a place surrounded by four other faculties.
Chapel as a treasure inside the garden. It arouses curiosity, but at the same time it does not draw attention to itself. The interior of the chapel is solved with residential stairs, which are shaped like parabolas. These form a common sitting in a circle, ie the principle of a round table, where everyone is equal. They agree, they unite. Circle as a symbol of the Earth, the universe. The most basic and at the same time the most perfect shape. The garden as liberation, breaking free from the noisy world. As reassurance and preparation for a meeting.

competition & workshop
Vzhledem ke kvalitám a významu původní budovy staré hasičky volíme cestu rekonstrukce. Z původního objektu zachováváme základy se sklepy a obvodové stěny do ulice Hlavní a Dolního náměstí se všemi prvky původního tvarosloví. Návrh pretváří hlavní vstup a zadní fasádu. Budova obsahuje 5 hlavních prostorů/sálů navzájem propojitelných do 2 velkých celků. Mezi špalíčkem a restaurací U Dvořáků vzniká náměstí menšího měřítka. Je koncipováno jako volná plocha umožnující variabilní využití.

Reconstruction of old Fire Station competition
supervisor: Ing. arch. Jaromír Walter cooperation: Ing. arch. David Zatloukal, Bc. Šimon Doubrava
The subject of the competition was the design of the cultural and social center Stará hasička (the building of a former fire station). Part of the proposal was also the modification of the adjacent public space in the scope of the solved area, where social events of the city district are held (feasts, Christmas celebrations, concerts, etc.). The designs were elaborated in the details of the architectural study.
The current condition of the Old Fire Brigade is already unsatisfactory and should be modernized. The building of the cultural and social center should have a multifunctional space, club rooms with adequate facilities and should serve the inhabitants of the city district.

The workshop took place by the river Svitava, which aimed to activate the locality, which could be a poetic part of Brno. The workshop helped a little. We created 3 furniture that used old tracks, which can be used to drive to the old industrial part of Brno.

Lamp originated from a freestyle of ideas. The story begins in craftsman shop Řempo, where we found a box of scraps. Plastic coils of various sizes make up a translucent tube as a lighting base. Discs on both sides are covered with cork to cover the switch opening, which is in the middle of the disk. The lamp is mobile, durable and can even withstand multiple impacts. It needs an AA battery to run. Upcycling of useless scraps is the main idea behind the design of our lamp.
