WEEK 3 READING: KRAUSS_LEGER-LECORBUSIER-AND-PURISM

Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier is a place that cannot be hindered. It is created by viewing from a afar and elevation point of view (side). That is why it always looks as if objects in the picture are stacked. Also, it has the composition of the front view without lateral movement.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against? Two properties that are attributable for the Flatness of Le Crobusier’s painting are pure extension and continuity of edges. Pure extension is the drawing of the objects as flat shapes. Continutiy of edges is the placement of the objects by wedging them together or puting them side by side. They are pitted against blackness (not the color black), texture and contrast. This allows Le Crobusier to create perfect pictorial space of the objects for him.

MARIO’S WORLD

1ST MARIO’S WORLD

Despite the scanner being great, for some reason, however I adjust the levels, it always comes out dotted. Also, two pages were done instead one because there were too many things on one paper already. It was the best way for me to keep things clean.

COMBINED MARIO’S WORLD

This is the pen drawing of my mario world. It went beyond the size of A3 paper as one can see with the top. The sides were used to it utmost potentinal as I chose to do staircases rather than just flat wall everywhere. Again, it comes out dotted no matter what I do.

WEEK 4 READING: ALLEN_AXONOMETRIC-PROJECTION

Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection?

Pictorial space: 1. It has vanishing point thus it is finite and closed. 2. It is illusory represtnation where depth and distance is prioritezd. 3. Dimensions and shapes may not be the same as the object being drawn. Projection: 1. It doesn’t have vanishing point thus it is infinite with lines being able to run parellel. 2. It is an accurate representation of the object with correct dimensions and shapes of the object.

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? Axonometric projection first began in 20th century with avant-garde artists. They wanted to create a new way of interpreting the world that is capable of creating different worlds. More importantly, it would be able represent abstract information and to show things that does not exist.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD

After hours, illustrated mario’s new world is accomplished. Trying my best, my aim was to make the world dynamic with the given objects and without adding any new ones.

APPENDIX

The picture of the left is the layering of the tracing papers. Each tracing paper show the steps I took to get to the drawing of my mario’s world. The picture on the right upper corner is the my set up of how I draw. The picture on the right bottom corner is of me drawing and using the equiment while standing up.
