knit for pleasure I’m always surprised, how the things I see around me find their way into my work. A film, a shell found on the beach or a fleeting impression as I walk past a store front, triggers a new direction or idea and makes life rich and interesting. This issue of Knit is made particularly rich and interesting by the introduction of two stunning new Alpaca yarn collections incorporating the finest and best fibre from Australian Alpaca fleece growers. The colour palettes for these two yarns are dazzling and delicious and can be viewed on page 5. There is usually something new and almost always challenging going on at our design studio and recently it has been the exploration of the detail that gives a garment beautiful fit. After experimenting with the allowance of overall ease (that's the additional measurement each design is given to produce a tight, snug or loose fit) our research resulted in the creation of new benchmarks for fit and comfort. Page 58 explains the new system of sizing and will help you to choose the fit you’re most comfortable with. Knitwear can do much more than just keep you warm. Colours can remind you of another time in your life and a favourite sweater that fits you well is like a trusted friend. This issue of Knit combines luxury yarn with simple knitting designs that allow you to focus on the enjoyment of your craft. I invite you to brew a pot of green tea, find a comfy corner in your kitchen and settle in for a good long browse before deciding which project will bring you the most knitting pleasure this winter. JO SHARP

Alpaca Yarn Enjoy the comfort of these sensational new yarns.I Featured in this magazine are two fabulous new alpaca hand knitting yarns. Both are luxuriously soft and a joy to knit. During the development of these yarns, our studio collaborated with the alpaca growers of Australia to find the most ideal grades of fibre for softness and performance, both for knitting and for wearing.

Alpaca Kid Lustre is another highly successful blend, capturing the super softness of alpaca, the bright lustre of fine kid mohair and the loftiness of super soft merino. This lustrous yarn works well in men's and women's garments, or homewares such as cushions and throws, as you will see inside this magazine.

Alpaca Silk Georgette yarn is made from super fine alpaca blended with silk and very fine merino wool to produce a delicately grained flat fabric with excellent ability to reshape after washing and wearing. This yarn is the finest in our collection to date and wonderful for use in classic vintage knits with lots of intricate stitch patterning and also for babywear.

Both these yarns drape very softly and mould easily to fit the body snugly. The resulting garments are lightweight and express a sensual aesthetic. Jo Sharp
