Grafting: a technique that vineyards use to create a unique variety of grapes, done by joining the tissues of two plants together so they grow as one
Masculine vs. Feminine Wines
Masculine Wine: strong bodied wine with intense flavors that takes well to oak an aging; can be described as a gentleman’s dressing room
Feminine Wine: lighter wine with floral notes, silk tannins, and a roundness to them; described as aromatic fireworks or a peacock’s tail

“United Winery was inspired by the grafting technique vineyards use to create a unique variety of grapes, joining the tissues of the two plants together so they continue to grow as one.
This three-generation, family owned winery was founded on the importance of joining different people together in Sonoma CA to enjoy a common interest in wine. The winery was designed with the goal of grafting the characteristics of masculine and feminine wines together, working separately and individually.
As visitors move throughout each space they experience the contrasting spaces – those with abundant natural light and softer, rounder forms contrasted against darker, moodier, orthogonal spaces, each socially intimate in their atmosphere. By pushing services towards the exterior, the public spaces bloom outwards creating a central exterior space for large social gatherings.”
