All you Need to Know about Biological Pest Controls Biological pest controls are the best ways through which you can rid your environment of pests without introducing toxic products into your environment. Biological methods are some of the oldest ways of pest control. They are quite effective ways of getting rid of pests since they use nature’s means to keep the environment free of pests. Biological pest control involves the introduction of predator organisms to prey on the pests in your environment. •

First of all, when it comes to introducing biological pest controls into your environment, you need to consider whether the new organism you introduce will be a nuisance over time as well or easy to eliminate after the pest problem has been solved. The best way to do this is by introducing an organism that solely relies on the pest organism as its main means of survival. Therefore, you can be sure that once the pest population will be depleted, the introduced organisms will either leave or be deleted as well.

It is also important to ensure that the introduced organism does not affect the biodiversity of the area. Biological pest controls should not affect the other organisms in the area and therefore the choice of natural predators to use should be very carefully made.

Effectively using biological pest controls can completely eliminate the need for chemically prepared products, which may be harmful to the environment.

When it comes to biological pest controls, there are generally three ways through which the pest control solution can be affected. This is usually with regards to the predator organism being added to the environment. •

Importation is the most classic means used in biological pest controls. This is the introduction of completely new organisms into the environment where the pest is. The organism could be from a completely different area or habitat but very effective in tackling the pest problem that you have.

Another method used in biological pest controls is referred to as augmentation. This is the process whereby other organisms of predators are added to supplement the naturally occurring ones in a bid to get rid of a particular type of pest. In most cases, it is usually used periodically. This usually depends on the seasons at which the pest problem is at a maximum.

Finally, conservation is a method of biological pest control through which conserving the natural enemies of the pest in the environment is the primary focal point in keeping the pest populations to a minimum. This is usually carried out for organisms that are already adapted to that environment, rather than focusing on killing the pest, you can focus on ensuring that the predator is always preset to keep the pests in check.

Biological pest control is not an issue that is completely out of reach, merely having a cat in the house hunting down mice is a biological pest control method. Choosing the right pest controls for the specific pest present in the environment is essential for the process to be effective.
