KNOX BASKETBALL GAMES COMMISSIONER: MICHAEL CAMERON
NEXT HOME GAMES
Melbourne will play Sunbury on Saturday. The Tigers sit on top of the competition ladder, with nine wins and two losses. They defeated the Southern Sabres last week 65-55. On the other hand, Sunbury lost both of their games in the last round, 58-74 to Hawthorn and 80-74 to Nunawading. Knox host Kilsyth at the State Basketball Centre on Saturday. Both teams won their games last week, with the Raiders defeating Ballarat 55-79 and the Cobras beating Altona 71-75. Both sides will look to build on this. Dandenong face Nunawading on Saturday evening. The Rangers demolished the Boomers last week, defeating them by 79 points. They currently sit fourth in their division, with five wins to their name. The Spectres won against the Jets last week, 80-74. That was their eighth win for the season, putting them second in their league. Bendigo and Bulleen battle each other on Saturday. The Braves defeated the Eagles by 22 points last weekend, winning their sixth game of the season. Bulleen have had a horror start to the season, losing 11 games. Waverley host Diamond Valley in Waverley on Saturday at 6.30pm. The Falcons were victorious last week, after they beat the Hawthorn Magic 51-72. That was their first win of the season. The Eagles currently sit fifth in their division, after winning only three of their first nine games. The Sunbury Jets face the Southern Sabres on Sunday morning. The Jets have lost eight of the 11 games they have played this season, two of those occurring last weekend. The Sabres come into this game holding on to second place in their division, after winning seven of their 11 games. Kilsyth and Waverley play each other on Sunday at noon. This will be the second game of the round for both sides. Kilsyth have won seven of their first 10 games, whilst Waverley sits last in their division. Ringwood and Altona battle each other on Sunday at The Rings. The Hawks are currently undefeated, after winning all nine games they have played in. Altona have a mixed record of four wins and four losses. Nunawading face Ballarat in Nunawading on Sunday afternoon. The Spectres have started their season much better than the Rush, with eight wins to their name. The Rush have only won two games out of eight. Hawthorn play Hume in the final game of the round. Both sides sit sixth in their respective conferences, so the game should be a tight encounter. NBL1 Round 6 Preview KNOX RAIDERS VS. BASKETBALL AUST. COE
The youngest teams in NBL1 make the trip into the State Basketball Centre this Saturday night as the Raiders host Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence. A group of high school athletes who are some of the brightest stars we will have over the next few years. The COE women have struggled to start this season, currently sitting without a win. Given their youth, teams have been able to take advantageon the boards and inside the paint. Opponents are averaging eight more rebounds per game, and over 15 more points per game inside the paint. If Lauren Scherf can bring last weeks form, she could be in for a huge game. Last week the Raiders struggled with controlling the ball, allowing Nunawading 24 points from turnovers. They need to control the ball against the COE, as the young group would love nothing more than getting into an up and down speed contest. For the Raiders men, their confidence will be sky high after a dominant win last week. However, the COE men have proved a challenge so far this season, currently sitting at 4-3 (equal 4th on record). Alex Ducas has been a measuring stick for them so far, averaging a team high 21ppg while nailing almost half of his three’s (49% 3PT). Mojave King also looks like an incredible talent on the rise, providing a number of highlights so far this season. An athletic team, the COE are able to match their opponents on the boards despite carrying a little less bulk. This athleticism also helps in the open court, where they can finish with force and stlye. However, the Raiders have shown they can be an elite shooting team, and this is a matchup where they’ll need to execute and knock down those open shots. Adam Thoseby is shooting well from deep, but only attempting 4.6 3-PT attempts per game. It would be great to see that number rise. Damon Heuir might have got himself going last week, picking up over 20 points while also getting his teammates involved. An elite talent in this league, that could have been the spark he needed. Look for another strong showing from him.
