FREE EVENTS FOR EVERYONE It’s a good year for free things to do. I am surprised by how many townships in Southern New Jersey are putting together “movie nights” and festivals at little or no cost for admission. With many people feeling the pressure from the bad economy, it is tougher than ever to find things to do. We must remember that spending time with our loved ones, friends, and families is the most important and rewarding thing we can do. Take advantage of the many free events available. Take a date, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, or wife to the free jazz concerts on the beach in Atlantic City. Stroll through the farmer’s markets in Atlantic City or the Camden Waterfront. Many of Southern New Jersey wineries have free tastings and will let you walk through the vineyards. Check with your township to see what free events they are hosting or planning. Many have free movie nights with an emphasis on family movies. In this issue of the Society Page we have listed some in Atlantic City. Galloway Township also has movie nights and even offers discounted tickets to theme parks for residents of Galloway. In August, almost every town hosts its “National Night Out”. In many towns this is a big event with a large assortment of vendors and things for the kids to do. Of course, as a car nut, I have to mention that if you like cars, most car shows are free to spectators and display many great antique cars, muscle cars, and hot rods. Even some townships host car shows. Some of those are Hammonton, Burlington, and Merchantville. Merchantville’s car show is this Saturday, July 14, with hundreds of cars, 9 DJ’s, and an Elvis show. They also have a rock-wall, moon-bounce, hula hoop & limbo contest, and petting zoo. That’s a big car show. It’s also a great way to draw business to their business district but you don’t have to spend any money to have a great time. Times are tough for a lot of people but luckily, there are quite a few people working hard to make sure there are still things that you can do for free. Make a plan to take your family out to one of these events and share some quality time together.

South Jersey Car Shows & Cruises Beer CraZy by Contributing Writer, Nick Gaudio This week’s beer is Allagash White. From Portland, Maine, this Belgian Witbier is one of the best of its category for domestically brewed beer. It pours a cloudy yellow, due to the unfiltered wheat, with a white, foamy head. It has an extremely drinkable sweet citrus, clove, and coriander flavor that goes down just as smoothly as it hits the tongue. For those unaccustomed to unfiltered wheat beer, do not shy away from Allagash because of the cloudiness. On a warm day, one of these served with a lemon wedge can be the most refreshing beverage choice. The Society Page Best Dressed

Gentleman…Start Your Engines!!!!! Author: George Chopek, ECR Staff Writer Photos: Erik Delbuono, ECR Photographer See More at ExoticCarResource.com
What goes best with Porsches, Ferrari’s, Aston Martins, Lamborghini’s, Corvettes, Vipers, AMG’s and a host of other exotic cars? Well…..fine wine of course! And the newest premier exotic car rally on the east coast of the United States brings them together like nowhere else. It began as an idea to bring the charm and class of legendary car events, like those from the Italian Countryside and the South of France, to the shores of the United States. This idea grew from a thought and dream to a reality because of the vision of one man and his wife. Chuck Knutson, of Knutson Publication fame, with the help of his wife and partner, Jamie Knutson, took their passion for exotic cars and fine wines and set out on a mission. “The East Coast of the US, particularly the growing wine industry in Southern New Jersey, has so much to offer, why can’t we have a premier event just like they have in Europe? The answer is we can!!!!” Chuck Knutson means what he says and says what he means. Welcome to the Vigneto Rally. When Exotic Car Resource heard about the Vigneto Rally, we jumped at the chance to be part of the inaugural event. So, ECR entered the rally as a participant to fully appreciate what this new premier rally would be like from the driver’s seat. Piloting a classic Ferrari, I was in the mix while other not so lucky ECR staffers had to tag along to take photos and get the outside perspective. For me, as the pilot of the ECR Ferrari, I had to suffer along for the sake of good journalism. Sometimes this job is very hard. Arriving at the start of the rally, the New Jersey Motorsports Park, I was greeted by the fleet of attendee exotics, which included nearly every type of exotic car you could drool over. Italy, Germany and America were all well represented. It was a sight to be seen as they all lined up and let the morning sun glisten off their perfect finishes. After admiring each other’s cars and getting to know one another, all the attendees were summoned to the NJMP Officers Club area for a greeting and introduction. At this time, Chuck Knutson welcomed the group and set the stage for the day’s event. Soon thereafter, the Mayor of Millville (NJMP’s home city) Tim Shannon helped us get ready to “start our engines”. A Champagne toast, and off we went to the cars. The next phase of the Rally led us on a five lap trip around the Thunderbolt Raceway at NJMP. Seeing so many exotic pieces of art lap the professional course was a dream that could not be broken with any size pinch. This was a great start to a great day. After making our racetrack debut, it was out of the park and on to the road. Once on the road, the drive was awesome. A convoy of exotic cars made their way along some of the most beautiful roads Southern New Jersey has to offer. The first twenty minute driving leg was fantastic and all the drivers were clearly enjoying sharing the road with other rolling works of art. When we arrived at our first stop, the Coda Rossa Winery in Franklinville, NJ, we were greeted by a wonderful vineyard set in the countryside of southern New Jersey. This quint vineyard welcomed the rally with open arms and wine tastings that showed off the quality of their hard work. The attendees got full access to all the vineyard had to offer while enjoying conversation with new friends. After about an hour of living the life of relaxation, it was back to the cars for some more spirited driving through the countryside and on to the next stop. Arriving at the Bellview Winery we find another beautiful vineyard reminiscent of the California wineries, minus the mountains. More of the same….relax, meet wonderful people and enjoy the view of the vineyard and exotic cars. After another hour or so, off we went. Once again following the route which leads us through the beautiful town of Hammonton, NJ where Main Street was lined with people awaiting the arrival of the exotic car rally. As we passed through Hammonton, the people cheered on the drivers and snapped pictures of the rare hardware. After the “parade”, another scenic ride leads us to the rallies next stop, the Valanzano Winery. This sprawling winery is beset by waterfalls and a rustic old school style dining hall. All rally attendees once again got to taste the wine and tour the facility, which was impressive to say the least. A short while later, it was off to the final stop of the day….the Renault Winery located In Galloway Township, NJ. The drive to Renault was the best driving leg of the Rally which brought us through Southern New Jersey’s finest country side. Lakes, Blueberry Fields and open plains of farm land only interrupted by a winding piece of roadway, custom made for a Sunday drive in a fine automobile. What a blast!!! When we arrived at our final stop at Renault Winery, all the cars were given VIP parking for an end of the day car show. Spectators got to see these beautiful machines with the backdrop of Renault; which can only be described as stunning. While the cars relaxed, the owners did the same in the Renault Grand Ball Room where a chef prepared six course meal was offered up and enjoyed by all. At the end of the day, the rally participants were called up to the stage to receive a gift basket filled to the top with wonderful mementos. Once everyone was full on great food, it was time to head for home to put the car to bed and re-live the day’s events. I know that I spent many hours afterwards enjoying the memories of the day and looking forward to the next Vigneto Rally. Events such as this are rare in our neck of the woods. Bringing the exotic car community together for such a fine event is a site to behold and one to remember for a lifetime. So, If you are an exotic car lover and have ever dreamed of experiencing the historic rallies and concourse events we all read about in Europe; dream no longer. Come to the Vigneto Rally and experience it first hand, right here in the good ole’ U.S of A. Chuck Knutson made the dream a reality for all of us. Thanks Chuck…..I look forward to seeing you there next year. For more information and photos about the Vigneto Rally, visit: www.vignetorally.com.
