More American Than Apple Pie, Car Shows Are back. Nothing is more American than custom cars. I bet custom cars get more attention than apple pie. Now that winter is over, the streets will fill with hot rods, muscle cars, and custom motorcycles. One of my favorite things about summer is all the car shows. Most car shows are free and provide hours of lazy day entertainment. As most of you know, I am car crazy. I’m also a big motorcycle fan with three custom Harleys taking up space in my garage. I could go to a car or motorcycle show every-day. This Thursday night, Collingswood starts their very popular “Collingswood Cruise Night”. I think it’s great when a township puts together a car or bike event. Burlington Township has a very successful bike night. Historic Smithville Village in Galloway puts together many car shows throughout the season. The Collingswood event starts April 19’th and continues every third Thursday throughout summer. There is live music, food, plenty of hot cars and motorcycles too. Admission is free so you can walk around and look at all the great cars without spending any money. If you are lucky enough to own a hot rod, muscle car, or exotic car, you can register to participate in the car show. At the end of the night trophies are awarded. You can get more information and see photos from previous cruise nights at Collingswood.com. This weekend you can check out a big collection of British Cars on Saturday at Historic Smithville Village in Galloway Township. Admission is free plus there are 60 shoppes and restaurants in the village. The weather is supposed to be great so take a drive to see the cars and walk around the village. The event is presented by The British Motor Club of Southern New Jersey. Starting this week, we will publish a list of area car shows in The Society Page. You can get an even bigger list at Cruisinnews.us . This site is run by Cliff Shield. He keeps the site updated and easy to navigate. If you want your show listed in The Society Page, just let us know. We hope to bring our Aston Martin to Collingswood Thursday night and will definitely have it at Smithville Village on Saturday. Hope to see you there. Story by Chuck Knutson

The Beer Calorie Conundrum I have been puzzled for years about the direction major beer brands marketing strategy has taken. Who told them the average beer drinker cares about calorie counting? Maybe I am completely wrong. Maybe I just don’t know enough people that care about calories in their beer. The fact is, everyone that I ask does not care at all about how many calories their favorite beer has. This is certianly supported by the sudden and significant boom in craft beer sales. Please let me know what your opinion is by votiing in our online poll at SPMag.co.

South Jersey Car Shows & Cruises Beer CraZy by Contributing Writer, Nick Gaudio This week’s beer is a special, limited edition release from Ommegang (Cooperstown, NY). Cup O Kyndnes is a Belgian Style Scottish Ale that is only sold in a 25.4oz buddy bottle, so pick it up wherever you can find it! This Scottish Ale pours an amber color with a tall, lightcolored head. It has an aroma fully of nutmeg, malt, and some other spices. It has a very thick and creamy mouthfeel due to its high carbonation. Its flavor is a combination of smokey and spicey with some yeastiness and a sour aftertaste, common for a Belgian style Ale. Ommegang does a great job with combining traditional elements of both Scottish and Belgian Ales into one beer. Enjoy it while you can still find it!
