SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AT THE WINDRIFT It seems that Windrift in Avalon just keeps getting better every year. Windrift’s General Manager, Pete Compare, has a lot to be excited about this year as he unveils refurbished hotel rooms, new outdoor spaces, and quite possibly the grandest banquet room on the beach in New Jersey. Last Friday, Jaime and I visited Windrift. We enjoyed a great dinner in Windrift’s fine dining restaurant. Not only is the food an epicurean delight but the wine list is extensive. Windrift is unique. In addition to a fine dining restaurant, there is brick oven pizza, sushi bars, multiple beverage bars placed though-out, live entertainment, a truly spa like swimming pool with waterfall, and of course very well designed and appointed hotel rooms. Pete took us on a tour of the new second floor. We were simply awestruck by the expansive design and soaring ceilings. The views of the beach and ocean only added to the beauty of this room. Pete tells us that this room will also be used for weddings. Anyone lucky enough to have their reception in this room will surely have a memorable one. A new outside bar on the second level presents great panoramic views of the beach, ocean, and Avalon. The renovated rooms are very well designed. We stayed in a suite that had two rooms, two full baths, a full kitchen, and two balconies. The bath connected to the main bedroom was huge with a very large tiled shower that had a bench and two shower heads. I am not normally a fan of modern design but The Windrift designers have won me over. The design is clean, elegant, and roomy. Windrift offers us the ability to treat ourselves very well without going very far at all. If you want a truly refined but still warm and friendly beach weekend or vacation, Windrift is “Cooler By A Mile” Story By Chuck Knutson

South Jersey Car Shows & Cruises Beer CraZy by Contributing Writer, Nick Gaudio This week we will explore the world of the Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont, Colorado. Oskar Blues offers six different beers including their most famous, Dave’s Pale Ale, G’Night Ale (formerly Gordon’s Ale) an Imperial Red and a Double IPA. Their beers are only offered in cans and kegs, and hearing this made me pause with flashbacks to my early days of drinking yellow fizzy stuff. However, Matt assured me that the cans are all made with a water-based lining that prevents the beer from taking on any metal flavor. After all, a keg is just a giant metal can, isn’t it? Plus, the beer stays fresher longer because the can does not port any light which is known to damage beer. The idea is to pour the beer from the can into a glass to emulate the on-tap experience, anyway, so I decided to give it a try. I tested out a Dale’s Pale Ale poured into a glass (or, rather, a 2oz plastic Beerfest tasting cup) and confirmed that there was no way I would ever have known that it came out of an aluminum can. So whenever you need a great on-the-go beer in a can, turn to Oskar Blues and start trying out some of their craft selections!
