Local Resident and Business Owner Nominated for the 2013 Emerging Leader of the Year Award As her local business expands, 27 year old owner Rachael Pagano has been nominated for the 2013 Emerging Leader of the Year Award by the Southern New Jersey Chapter of the eWomenNetwork. On the heels of the grand opening of her newly expanded spa and salon, Escape Beauty Boutique, Rachael prepares to travel to Dallas Texas for the international eWomenNetwork Conference where she will go up against other nominated women for the prestigious eWomenNetwork Foundation Award ‘Emerging Leader of the Year.’ The eWomenNetwork Foundation Emerging Leader Program reaches out to young women between the ages of 22-29 who are already demonstrating excellence in the areas of academics, entrepreneurship and philanthropy. Each year, the eWomenNetwork solicits nominations and the finalists participate in a program designed especially for them during the annual eWomenNetwork International Conference and Business Expo. While working to improve and expand her spa and salon, Rachael actively participates in the local chapter of the eWomenNetwork and was honored by her nomination earlier this winter. Ever mindful of the awesome responsibility of her role as Owner of Escape Beauty Boutique and Licensed Esthetician, Rachael, never one to shy away from a challenge, chose to engage herself in the eWomenNetwork community while running and working at her shop on Route 9 in Galloway. Her hard work and diligence was rewarded with this nomination and during the conference, Rachael, along with other nominees from across the country and Canada, will participate in four days of workshops on developing skills, building relationships and networking with established female business owners, known as “femtors,” who eWomenNetwork define as “a wise and trusted woman providing knowledge, inspiration and practical information to other women.” The eWomenNetwork stretches across America and into Canada and boasts over 500,000 members. In many circles it is said to be considered the largest and fastest growing business network in North America. Mentoring is a big part of the network’s outreach, and when Rachael joined in March of 2012; her hope was to introduce herself and her growing business to some of the most successful, knowledgeable and influential women in Southern New Jersey. “I wanted to learn from these women, my seniors in business and professional experience, and hear from them how to run, operate, and eventually expand a business…” Rachael says, “…I wanted to learn how to make my dream come true…EwomenNetwork has been a wonderful network to help my business grow. Not only is it nurturing to my business, but the speakers who they bring in at their events are quality. It’s a well-rounded organization that helps put me in the correct mind-set to help my business grow.” If Rachael wins this international selection, she will have earned the title 2013 Emerging Leader of the Year and will win $16,000 worth of training and prizes. Visit Rachael Pagano for the Grand Opening of her business, Escape Beauty Boutique July 11th with a Ribbon Cutting form the Greater Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce starting at 4:30 to 8pm. RSVP to 609.464.2313 and visit their website at www.EscapeBeautyBoutique.com.

Two New Obstacles at Magnus Mud Run We have added two more obstacles to the Magnus Mud Run, the “Battling Bridge” and the “Stunt Man’s Wall”. Both obstacles give children the opportunity to climb. We have found that these are the favorite type of obstacle. The Stunt Man’s Wall is designed so that children climb up one side and after cresting the top, they drop onto an air mattress just like stunt men. The drop is only about two feet but should be enough to cause many smiles. The obstacles will be set up for the first time after we go to print so please check GallowayPatriot.com for photos. To register children for the event go to GallowayPatriot.com and click un the Mud Run links.

Living Will and Healthcare Power of Attorney: Don’t Wait! I was stopped at a traffic light in Atlantic City and was rear ended by another vehicle. I pulled out my insurance policy and have no idea of what any of it means. Can you please explain this to me? The key phrases to look for on you auto insurance declaration page are as follows: Personal Injury Protection Coverage: Also referred to as “PIP” or “no-fault” coverage, pays your reasonable and necessary medical expenses, if you are injured in a car crash, regardless of who is at fault for the accident. PIP has two parts (1) coverage for the cost of hospitals, doctors and other medical providers and any medical equipment that may be needed to treat your injuries and (2) reimbursement for certain other expenses you may have because you are hurt, such as lost wages and the need to hire someone to take care of your home or family. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage: Uninsured Motorist Coverage pays your damages (both bodily injuries and property damage), if you are injured in a car crash caused by a driver who does not have liability insurance. Underinsured Motorist Coverage pays your damages (both bodily injuries and property damage), if you are injured in a car crash when the person responsible for the accident has insufficient liability insurance to fully compensate you for the injury. You should carefully review the coverage you have for Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage, as nationwide studies indicate drivers without insurance are on the rise and are causing significant auto accidents. Law Suit Option: Also known as “Tort Threshold” and “Verbal Threshold”. By choosing the Limitation on Lawsuit Option, you agree not to sue the person who caused an auto accident for your bodily injury including pain and suffering unless you sustain one of the following permanent injuries: (1) loss of body part; (2) significant disfigurement or significant scarring; (3) a displaced fracture; (4) loss of a fetus; (4) a permanent injury (Any injury shall be considered permanent when the body part or organ, or both, has not healed to function normally and will not heal to function normally with further medical treatment based on objective medical proof); or (5) death. Liability Coverage: Pays damages for bodily injury to others and damage to property that result from a wreck that is caused by someone insured under your policy. Also pays for other costs including legal defense and court fees in the event you are sued because of a car wreck. Collision Coverage: Pays for damage to your vehicle, after a deductible is met, to your own car when it strikes, or is struck by, another vehicle or object.

I prepared a living will and assigned my husband to be my healthcare representative prior to delivering my first child (approximately 2 years ago). Although a somewhat morbid matter, I wanted to make sure that if something happened to me where I could not make decisions for myself, that my husband and family clearly understood my wishes with regards to life prolonging treatments. I wanted to avoid any conflicts among my family, doctors, or nurses by making my treatment preferences known. What is a living will? A legal document that informs your health care providers and family about your wishes regarding medical treatments in the event that you are not able to speak for yourself or a physician has determined that you are unable to understand your diagnosis and therapeutic options. It also allows you to include a description of your beliefs, values, and general care and treatment preferences in the event that your living will does not specifically cover a particular situation. A living will can also be referred to as an advance directive or health care directive. What is a proxy directive? Also known as a durable power of attorney for healthcare, it is a legal document that allows you to appoint a person (healthcare representative) to make healthcare decisions for you based upon your wishes in the event that you are not able to speak for yourself. In the event that they are unsure of what you want in a specific situation, they would base their decision on what they believe is in your best interest. What is the difference between a living will and a proxy directive? A living will expresses an individual’s wishes regarding medical treatment. These wishes are to be followed if the individual is unable to provide instructions at the time medical decisions need to be made. The health care proxy gives the authority to another person (the healthcare representative) to make medical decisions in the event that the patient cannot do so. It is often beneficial to utilize both a living will and a health care proxy because you may be in a specific situation where the treating physician cannot interpret your living will. Is it expensive to complete these forms? An attorney can assist with preparing the documents, and it is often included when estate planning documents are drawn up.

Comprehensive Coverage: Pays for damage to your car that was not caused by a collision. Some examples include damage caused fire, wind, hail, flood, vandalism, theft, or impact with an animal. There may or may not be a deductible for this coverage.

However, it is a little known fact that you can attain the forms from the State of New Jersey Department of Health and complete them for FREE. The form can either be notarized OR be signed and dated by you in front of two witnesses who must also sign and date the form. Neither of the witnesses can be the healthcare representative. (http://www.nj.gov/health/advancedirective/ forms_faqs.shtml).

I hope the information above enables everyone to review and understand their auto insurance declaration page. If you are still having difficulty understanding your automobile insurance coverage options, please feel free to call me.

Who should have a copy of these documents? Copies should be provided to your healthcare representative, family members and physicians. Anytime you are admitted to a hospital you will also have the opportunity to provide a copy.

If you have a general legal question you would like discussed, in future please email your questions to legal@gallowaypatriot.com. This article is meant to be general in nature for informational purposes only, and is not legal advice. Opinions are solely the writer’s. No representations or warranties are made with regard to the accuracy or content of this information. Always contact an attorney before taking any legal action.

How should I choose my healthcare representative? The representative must be an adult. They can be a spouse, adult child, family member, friend, religious advisor, or domestic partner. A physician can be appointed as a healthcare representative as long as they are not actively treating you (to avoid any conflict of interest). Consider choosing someone who can understand your values and preferences and therefore make decisions that you would want them to make. You also need to talk with the representative and clearly express your wishes. Do not place them in a situation where they will feel guilty for making a decision that they are unsure of.

$100,000 Donated at Smithville Inn Continued ............ of the 100 year anniversary of Aston Martin. Aston Martin brought 3 of their new 2014 Rapide S sport sedans for guests to test drive. This was a very unique opportunity for people to drive a two hundred thousand dollar plus super car. The staff of the Smithville Inn impressed rally guests visiting Galloway with outstanding food in beautiful setting. Everything was deliciously

prepared. The Vigneto Rally also held a champagne brunch at Renault Winery. The Renault Winery put their best foot forward in dazzling rally guests with a signature Renault performance. Rally guests raved about these two Galloway jewels. Many said that they would be returning to enjoy these great restaurants again. Our final event was held at the Stockton Seaview. The Seaview has such a rich and storied history. Guests were very impressed with the Seaview’s grand building and property. The rally succeeded in drawing many new people to Galloway so that they may experience all

that our great town has to offer. We hope to grow this event each year to be even more beneficial to Galloway. National Left-Handed Golf Tournament has local connection. Story By Mike Richter My grandfather, Benny Richter, had a vision over 78 years ago and this past June, the tournament that he founded, came to New Jersey for the very first time. A Galloway resident, Michael Richter, had followed the NALG from time to time on their website. When I saw that it was going to be in New Jersey and in a neighboring town, I had to make sure I went to see what my grandfather started so many years ago. I didn’t know my grandfather, but knew about the contribution that he made to golf and the left handed community. I brought old pictures of him playing and articles related to him and this tournament. What a humbling and awesome experience I was given. The response from golfers and their spouses was overwhelming. I was so proud of my grandfather. In the early 1930’s, Benny Richter, a southpaw Professional at Triple A Golf Club of St. Louis (he later work as PGA pro at Bellerive Country Club), started building the ground work for an Association for Left-Handed golfers. Being the only left-handed professional, having more than 50,000 left-handed players in the country and as a measure of self-protection for the left-handed golfer in Missouri and throughout the country, Benny decided to organize them and to promote a tournament in which only southpaws would be allowed to participate. Since Benny felt you must crawl before you walk, he preferred to limit the association to the state of Missouri with great expectations to spread out and include all states in the country. Without e-mail blast and social media to promote such an event, Benny enlisted the aid of his friends of the press. A wire service release reporting the plan was published throughout

the country. Information regarding the plan was sent to every daily paper in Missouri, and every country club in the state was contacted for a list of their left-handed players, who were then sent an application. The response had been immediate and so hearty that Benny began making arrangements for the tournament, which was planned for the 1935 season. June 17th to 20th, 2013 golfers from all over the country came to New Jersey to play in the 78th National Left-handed Championship, sponsored by the New Jersey Left-Handed Golf Association. This tournament took place at Ballamor Golf Club, Egg Harbor. The four day event saw foursomes after foursomes of players playing from wrong side of the ball. Many that worked the event, had never seen so many left handed gofers playing at the same time. When play was completed, The National Open Champion was crowned, Robert Yurasovich of Wisconsin. Jon Flowers (OK), President of NALG, commended the staff at Ballamor, the great condition of the course and how this was one of the best courses and experiences that the organization had ever played. New Jersey represented herself well for all of us that call New Jersey Home.
