South Jersey Wines, A Family Legacy Stone Temple Pilots Aug 24, 2012 9:00 pm (Friday) Revel Ovation Hall 500 Boardwalk Atlantic City, NJ 08401 While the critics have never liked them , STP (Stone Temple Pilots), have always been loved by their fans. In fact, in 1994, Rolling Stone Magazine’s critics labeled STP the worst new band while their readers voted them best new band. It didn’t seem to matter what the critics said, by 1994 STP had won a Grammy for their performance of “Plush”. They also won Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist and Heavy Metal/Hard Rock New Artist at the American Music Awards. The band was originally known as “Mighty Joe Young” and performed at many notable California clubs. Believe it or not, the band took its new name from the motor oil STP and its iconic stickers which were seen everywhere in the 70’s and 80’s. Using just the initials form the sticker they finally agreed on the name, Stone Temple Pilots. I was an early adopter and promoter of the band’s music. As a radio station owner/operator in the early 90’s, my partner and I decided that the “Modern Rock/Alternative Rock” format was the right one for us. We loved the new music and had grown tired of the same old thing on the FM dial. In the early 90’s, many of the bands that are staples of today were new and unheard of. STP was one of those, along with No Doubt, Rage Against The Machine, and many more. Much of it was termed “grunge rock” but I think it was just backlash against all those overdone and over-processed 80’s bands. I guess guys just got tired of spending all that time doing their hair. Stone Temple Pilots most well-known songs are, Interstate Love Song, Sex Type Thing, Plush, Creep, and Wicked Garden. Before their dissolution in 2003, the band has had 16 top ten singles on the Billboard rock charts, eight of which peaked at No. 1 and one No. 1 album for Purple in 1994. STP split for a time but is now back together and touring regularly. They have many hits and well known songs that many people love. This weekend STP will be performing in Atlantic City at Revel Hotel Casino. If you are an STP fan, you should take this opportunity to see them. Front man Scott Weiland who also plays with Velvet Revolver is known to be controversial and may change bands again soon. Seeing the band will also give you the opportunity to check out Atlantic City’s newest casino. Story By Chuck Knutson

Alter the amount of rum to your taste. Sorry about the inexact measurements -- that's the way we do it down in de islans mon!

2 3/4Cups All-Purpose Flour, extra for rolling out the dough 1/2 CupSpent Grain 1 CupWort or Beer* 1 TSPKosher Salt Directions: Preheat oven to 350째 In the bowl of a standing mixer, or bowl, add the flour, spent grains from a batch of beer, Wort or Beer* and salt (1). Mix until dough comes together and firm, not to dry. If the dough is to wet, add more flour (1/4 cup at a time) or too dry (add a TBSP of Wort or Beer*) (2). Roll into a ball and wrap the bowl with a damp towel or plastic wrap and let sit for 30 minutes. Unwrap the bowl and remove the cracker dough to a cutting board. Sprinkle some extra flour onto the cutting board and some onto a rolling pin. Cut the dough into 4 equal portions. Working with one portion at a time (3), roll out to a thin sheet, approximately 1/8 to 1/16 of an inch thick. Wipe off any residual flour and place onto a half sheet pan/cookie sheet with either a piece of parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet. Optional: If you wish to add texture and flavor to this base recipe, you can use a pastry rub to apply a very thin coat of olive oil to the top of the rolled out dough. Then spread evenly either caraway seeds, coriander seeds and orange zest, or preserved lemon pieces to the top of the dough.

South Jersey Car Shows & Cruises Beer CraZy by Contributing Writer, Nick Gaudio I finally decided to break out this bottle of Faithfull Ale brewed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Delaware. This is a Belgian-style Golden Ale made to celebrate Pearl Jam's 20th anniversary of their TEN album. That is a great album too! On theme, the beer has 20 IBU and has had TEN additions of black currants. I was doing a bit of celebrating myself, as I crowned today #BelgianStyleGoldenAleWithCurrantsDay over on Twitter! Pretty coincidental, right? Party on! The label on my wine bottle has block letters that say PEARL JAM TWENTY with little pictures cut into the TWENTY. It's a little hard to make some of them out, but I think they are just a bunch of scenes from the band playing. A little story on the side sets your expectations about the beer.

Ferrari Club of America Turns 50 and Celebrates in Style Author: George Chopek, ECR Staff Writer See More at ExoticCarResource.com

The Ferrari Club of America will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary by way of grand design. The North American tour will span nearly an entire year and will travel to 50 different locations throughout the United States and Canada. Featuring a custom designed Ferrari 599 (see ECR article for details), the tour will travel to each location, accompanied with a custom made Scadoni scroll. Members from the various regional chapters of the FCA will have the opportunity to travel with the tour as it makes its rounds. As stated by the Ferrari Club of America’s press release: In commemoration of our 50th Anniversary, the Ferrari Club of America (FCA) is launching a 20,000 mile cross-country relay tour that will visit over 50 cities across North America. We’re calling it the “50 Anni di Passione” tour (50 years of Passion) and it will kick off on August 17, 2012, at Concorso Italiano in Monterey. Leading the “Passione” tour will be the star of the show – a specially “wrapped” 599 GTB-HGTE belonging to Jim Taylor, fellow member and Patron of the FCA 50th Anniversary. Along the way, the tour will stop in every FCA Region and Chapter, every Ferrari dealer, and many major automotive events in the USA and Canada. And as thrilling as that sounds, there’s more exciting news – you and your personal Ferrari can participate in the tour when it reaches your region. In each city, a local “Lead Relay Ferrari”, decorated with similar graphics to our Passione 599, will head up the tour and you are invited to join in the parades, track tours and parties with your Ferrari. Stops will include the 2012 Annual meet in Palm Springs, the Formula 1 Grand Prix events in Texas, Montreal and New Jersey, Cavallino in Florida, The Rolex 24 at Daytona, IndyCar in Toronto and many more stops throughout the year. In keeping with our club’s passion for charity and giving back to our community, FCA has designated Ronald McDonald House Charities and the SeriousFun Children’s Network as beneficiaries of Passione. Support for the tour comes from the generous assistance of Pirelli Tire, the Official Partner of the Ferrari Club of America and our Supporting Sponsors, Horseless Carriage, SkinzWraps, Schedoni and Miller Motorcars. The tour will finish in 2013 at the FCA’s annual meet, scheduled to be held at the legendary Road America race track on August 1 to 4, 2013. For daily updates and tour details, visit www.ferrariclubofamerica.com. Hope to see you on the road as we crisscross North America, celebrating our 50th Anniversary. President of the FCA, Al Delauro, told ECR that the future of the FCA looks brighter than ever. The tour will celebrate the history of the club, but the vision is toward the future. “The club has grown to nearly 5,000 members. We are seeing more and more younger members which will continue to help us grow.” The best part is you do not have to own a Ferrari to be part of the FCA. “The club is about the people and the cars are the common glue that brings them together. We have great members and regional chapters.” said President Delauro. President Delauro added that the close relationship the FCA has with the Ferrari factory (the FCA is the largest Ferrari factory recognized club in the world) has helped make the 50th anniversary celebration possible and will continue to make the FCA the best it can be. “This celebration is a means to celebrate all the FCA has been and all it will be in the future” added Delauro. As stated in the FCA press release, the FCA continues its tradition of giving back to the community by designating the Ronald McDonald House Charities and the SeriousFun Children’s Network as charitable organizations that will benefit from the tour. Each stop will provide fund raising opportunities for these wonderful causes. Just another example of the great things being part of the FCA brings. So, check out the schedule and make sure you stop by and visit as the FCA travels to a region near you. See the cars, meet the people, contribute to the cause and remember…. Forza Ferrari!!!!
