South Jersey Car Shows & Cruises Beer CraZy by Contributing Writer, Nick Gaudio Today I'm drinking HI.P.A. brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company in South Burlington, Vermont. This is one of their IPA on Tour series beers, and it was provided to me by the brewery. The label artwork is interesting. There is a woman that seems to have the galaxy for a hairdo, a modern day Jetsons chick perhaps. Orange and lemony citrus aroma with an equal dose of bread dough. Biting lemon flavor start things off and carry all the way through to the finish. It's really a harsh rind and unpleasant bathroom cleanser type flavor. Light pine, grass. I'm still searching for any sweetness in the balance. Bitter, yet not really hoppy, and astringent. Carbonation is good. Dry finish with a touch of the 6.7% alcohol. Not horrible but keep walking.

2013 VR1200 Twin Turbo Coupe – Hennessy Builds a Beast Author: George Chopek Staff Writer See More at ExoticCarResource.com ECR Exclusive – It is in full swing; the world auto show circuit is fired up and opening its doors once again to reveal the newest and latest in transportation choices. The big manufacturers and the small are rolling out the red carpet to show us all what their “skunkworks” have been putting together. While we all sit and wait to see what will emerge, the question begs to be answered; what is the future doing to the automobile, particularly to the exotic, sports and luxury car? Is the future brighter or are we heading towards a path of self-destruction where the driver will no longer be needed? I have owned and driven nearly every type of exotic, sports and luxury car on the planet over the past 20 plus years. From older Ferrari’s that tested your bravery to modern ones that fix your problems as you go. I have taken air cooled Porsches to the very edge of death and hammered brand new ones while enjoying ice cold air conditioning and never having to take my hands off the wheel. The old vs. the new…an evolution or a revolution….either way you look at it, I have loved them all. There are so many purists that will go to their grave saying we are killing the automobile. They will say you have no right to claim you can drive when the car drives for you. If you don’t know heal to toe, you are nothing more than a poser, pretending to be something you are not. The new age enthusiast will say that these thoughts are nothing more than excuses from people afraid of the new. People that either don’t want to let the past go or don’t want to admit they can’t understand the tech that goes in to these modern super machines. The fact is, the diehard believers of either school of thought will never come to terms with the other side. But, let’s try to take a look at this from a neutral position and really see what the future of technology will really mean to the “driver” enthusiast. I have to admit, I was one of those from the “old school” thought system. I had a pretty strong opinion that a sports car without a stick between the seats was nothing more than a Halloween costume, pretending to be something that it is not. I did not need a computer to tell me how to drive because I was the master of my domain and I would make the decisions. These new age cars were killing the thrill and not allowing me to kill myself. That somewhat changed when I drove my first “modern” super car. It was fast and had flappy paddle shifters. It had more driver modes than the space shuttle and, to my surprise, ice cold air conditioning. What I found was I could drive it harder, shift faster and my old bones were not as sore when I got out of the driver seat. I silently walked away realizing my old thoughts may have been slightly misplaced. I immediately went home and fired up my “older” exotic and tried to do what I had just done in a modern version. The fact was…I couldn’t. The car was even scarier now that the driver’s aides were gone. I also realized I could not shift for crap and what I once thought were pretty killer driving skills were mediocre at best. The newer car was not only faster and more comfortable, but made me a better driver. OK, so you must be thinking I am totally sold on the new and the old is dead. Well….not really. What I also found was that I was more “connected” with the older and felt a little more in touch with the car. Sure, I was slower and my left leg was numb, but I almost feel a bond with the older cars. The newer can be a little sterile at times. The fact is, they both have their goods and bads…..but how far will it go. The future is an exciting prospect for our cars that is for sure, but as manufacturers look to outdo the next guy, they may go too far and totally take the driver out of the equitation. It has already gotten to the point where you need an engineering degree to drive some of these cars. Push this, pull that and hold the brake down…..you are now in “desert when it rains and a possible hail storm is coming mode”. Crazy and overkill? If you ask me….yes!!! The older cars have charm and character while leaving the entire equation in your hands. The newer cars have their own charm and character, are faster and have computers that make us better than we could ever be. We have gotten to the point where technology is working and we are still enjoying the drive. The other problem we face as our cars become more advance is repair. As these new models become old ones, these technologies will become worn out parts that need repair. These repairs will be difficult at best for the home mechanic that likes to tinker with their ride. As we move forward we need to plead to the car makers that enough is enough. We appreciate the comfort amenities and drivers aides, but stop there. Focus the future on better safety, style and speed. Make the stereo nicer (if any of us ever use them anyway) and find finer leather and carbon. But, leave the driving to us. No More Computer Help. I am not saying eliminate the ones we have….I like them. Just no more!!!! The day that Ferrari outdoes Lamborghini because the all new Ferrari 787 can corner while you surf the internet is the day the “drivers” are dead. I am a driver….I am not ready to die…not just yet.
