THE VIGNETO RALLY Our Coolest Event Ever This is it, The Society Page’s biggest, coolest event ever, The Vigneto Rally. With only a few days left, the rally is a big success. We have assembled a great collection of exotic cars including, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, Maserati, Audi R8, Mercedes Gull-Wing SLS, Porsche, and more. The concept of the rally has been materializing for a few years. There are similar rallies in Italy and France that travel through the wine regions. Southern New Jersey has almost 35 wineries now. Many of them are producing world class wines. I am a huge fan of the rallies in Europe and always wanted to do one in our area. The production of a rally gave us the opportunity to bring attention to Southern New Jersey’s wine industry. The industry has become so important to Southern New Jersey that Stockton State College is opening a viticulture and enology campus in Hammonton in 2013. Jaime and I have enjoyed many of the wines produced in Southern New Jersey. We are excited to produce an event that promotes these wines. One of my greatest passions is exotic and vintage sports car racing. When the opportunity to put this rally together presented itself, I didn’t waste any time. I immediately contacted our friends at New Jersey Motorsports Park to discuss the idea. Brad and Liz as always were very accommodating and helpful. They too were very excited about the rally. The motorsport parks partnership with the rally is part of the foundation which makes the rally great. New Jersey Motorsports Park hosts two world class race tracks and while it is only a few years old, these tracks are destined to become legendary in the racing world. Many of the events held there are televised and determine championship standings. One of the greatest elements of the Motorsports Park is that just about anybody can race their car there. There are driver’s clubs, driver’s days, and even really fast go-carts that you can rent at the go-cart track. If you have not been to the Motorsports Park, you must take the time to see it. The Vigneto Rally starts at the race track where we will take five laps around the “Thunderbolt” track before touring the wineries. At the mid-point of the rally, the Hammonton Police department will lead us directly through the center of Hammonton for the Vigneto Rally parade. This will happen at about 2PM on Sunday, June 24. If you live in the Hammonton area, please come see the cars as they pass through. The rally will end at Renault Winery in Galloway at 5PM where the cars will be on display for all to see in the Vigneto Rally “Grand Concours” (exotic car show). The admission is free and there will be an outside wine bar set-up as well as displays. Continued on page 23

South Jersey Car Shows & Cruises Beer CraZy by Contributing Writer, Nick Gaudio This week’s beer is a celebratory treat, Southern Tier ’s Crème Brulée. Drinking this Imperial Milk Stout is the best way to enjoy a liquid dessert. It pours very dark and its crème colored head settles very quickly. The first and most obvious flavor is that of butterscotch with a perfect mix of caramel and vanilla. However, it still holds the overall flavor and mouthfeel of an imperial stout. By reading the description, many beer drinkers will shy away from this beer as too sweet and candy-like, but even the most hard core stout fan will appreciate the way the geniuses at Southern Tier were able to mask the 10% ABV into a delicious drink that can be enjoyed by all categories of beer drinkers. Ferrari will be addressing criticisms that its California convertible is just a little too soft by adopting a sharper and more focused design for the car’s replacement. The California has just undergone a mid-cycle update, receiving slightly more power and a new handling package, so its replacement is still a couple of years away from launch. However, Car and Driver has managed to pick up a few of the new car’s details. The big news is that the new car will feature a twin-turbocharged V-8. This new engine, which is being developed by Ferrari for use in the California replacement as well asseveral other Fiat Group models, should develop more than 500 horsepower, surpassing the 490 horsepower found in the latest version of the California. It is expected to be a thoroughly modern unit, complete with an F1inspired KERSthat will reportedly deliver an additional 100 horsepower when needed. Ferrari’s KERS recaptures energy under braking and uses this to charge a lithium-ion battery. This battery then powers an electric motor, which delivers the additional boost when necessary. The first production version of this system is set to debut in Ferrari’s Enzo replacement set for reveal later this year. It won’t just be about outright power, however. Ferrari’s engineers are said to be focusing on reducing the weight of the California replacement to well below the 4,123-pound curb mass of the California. More carbon fiber will be employed, as well as plenty of aluminum, to offset the weight of the hybrid system and ensure the new car remains light. The folding hard-top is also expected to remain. Some initial performance estimates are a 0-60 mph time of less than 3.5 seconds and a top speed of around 200 mph, making this new car almost as quick as the more expensive 458 Italia and even coming close to the performance of the F12 Berlinetta. In terms of styling, expect more retro cues and a much prettier shape overall. Leading the design is Flavio Manzoni, the head of Ferrari’s in-house design studio Centro Stile and the man in charge of designing the Enzo replacement. Unlike the new Enzo, which will be all Ferrari, Pininfarina will be helping with the design for the California replacement. The Ferrari California, despite its criticisms, is an important model for Ferrari. More than 8,000 examples have been sold since its launch, with 70 percent of those going to customers new to the brand. Getting the design right for its replacement will be crucial for Ferrari. TUNED ASTON DB German Luxury Tuner DMC has introduced the DMC Fakhuna, a concept design for the Aston Martin DBS. The official release follows after a series of teaser pictures released last week. Most significant change is an aggressive new front bumper fascia, which is equipped with larger air-intakes and a spoiler lip. Between the front and rear side, side skirt attachments render a lowered and more stretched look. In order to reduce the lifting forces at the back axle, DMC fitted a shapely spoiler which can be fitted on the rear lid and enhanced with a matching three-part rear diffuser. The latter optically extends the side skirts downwards and holds the two end pipes of the DMC sport exhaust system. Carbon fiber and real actual gold are the dominant colours in this styling package. The German fitted a new three-part DMC forged alloy wheel. The concave rims and the titanium bolting are combined with a highlypolished rim flange. DMC offers the wheel/tyre combination measuring 9.0Jx21 inches with 245/30ZR21 tyres at the front and 10.5Jx21 rims with tyres measuring 295/25ZR21. The new aluminium wheels are complemented with special chassis springs which lower the center of gravity of the Aston by 30mm at the front axle and by 20mm at the rear axle. As part of the performance upgrade, the Duesseldorf-based engineers developed sport catalysers and sport end mufflers. Clients that are interested to get the DMC look for one of their DBS’s may contact the tuner for more details. Courtesy of: www.worldnewscars.blogspot.com
