Sotdae Sacred poles from ancient Korea served as a conduit of people’s communication with the Heaven. Korean ancestors installed them in front of their villages or shrines to pray for a good luck or bumper crops. Attached on the top of the poles are birds carved out of wood.

Tiled Roof A symbolic representation of the roof of a Korean traditional house Han-ok. Regardless of the sweltering heat and bitter cold, the sturdy tiles over your head will keep you safe and sound for the New Year and beyond.

January Seopjikoji Point / UNESCO World Heritage Site “Seopji” means a place that produces many noble men and women. “Koji” means “point” or “cape.” Seopjikoji on Jeju Island is famous for enchanting vistas. In fact, the entire island is blessed with many coveted geological and ecological designations. Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.

Gangyang Harbor Gangyang Harbor is famous for a most beautiful sunrise in the mist. Location: Ulju-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do province.

February Jongmyo Shrine / UNESCO World Heritage Site Jongmyo is the most important royal shrine where spirit tablets of Joseon Dynasty kings are preserved. It is located in the heart of Seoul. (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Jaraseom Islet “Jara” means a soft-shelled turtle, and “Seom” an island. The island is so called as it is shaped like the sea animal. The islet, sometimes spelled “Jarasum,” is often submerged during the rainy season. Many healthconscious people frequent the thick woods and riverside paths there for hiking. Location: Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do province.

March Jusanji Pond Weeping willows of 150 years of age form luxuriant woods at Jusanji Pond. Location: Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do province.

All - In House All-In House is a soap-opera museum, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions. It took its name from a very famous Korean soap-opera series of its namesake, which deeply explored intense love and ambitions. Location: Seogwipo city, Jeju-do province.


April Mt. Hambaek Trees in Mt. Hambaek, one of the highest peaks of the Taebaek Mountain Range. The mountain is the home to Jeongamsa temple and Jeongamsa sumanotap stone pagoda, Silla era (57BCE-935CE) structures, designated as a Korea’s official Treasure.

Gyeongju , an Ancient Capital / UNESCO, World Heritage Site Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do province, was the capital of ancient Silla Dynasty (57BCE-935CE) for 992 years. In addition to its numerous historic sites and relics, it boasts of many spots of idyllic scenery. Gyeongju Historic Areas are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

May Gwanghwamun Gate Gwanhwamun is the main gate of Gyeongbokgung palace. (Korea’s official Historic Site No.117)

N Seoul Tower N Seoul Tower is the highest point to look over the entire capital city. It is situated on the top of Mt. Namsan in the heart of the Seoul city proper.

June Gwanghwamun Square Gwanghwamun Square is located on Sejongno, Seoul’s 600-year-old main street. Hidden in the photo between the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-shin and the mountain in the background are the Office of the President called Cheong Wa Dae, Gyeongbokgung palace and Gwanghwamun gate.

Riverside of the Han Yeouido /YO-EE-DOH/ district adjacent to Seoul’s Hangang /HAHN-GANG/ (Han River) is a major financial center. The National Assembly and 63-storied 63 /YOOK-SAHM/ City Building are located in the city’s southwest district.


July Gwakji-ri Village Gwakji-ri is a fishing village at the northwestern edge of Jeju-do, a southern island province.

Solseom Islet Solseom, or pine tree islet, is situated at an estuary of a river flowing into the East Sea. The island accentuates a panorama of the vast expanse of the heaven, land and sea. Location: Samcheok city, Gangwon-do province.

August Hwaseong Fortress / UNESCO World Heritage Site Hwaseong Fortress, which was constructed during Joseon Kingdom, has a floodgate called Hwahongmun shown in the photo. The fortress, Korea’s official Historic Site No.3, is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage. Location: Suwon city, Gyeonggi-do province.

Cheonggyecheon Stream Cheonggyecheon stream that runs through downtown Seoul was buried under the city pavement during Korea’s developmental years in the 20th century. But it was reborn as an eco-friendly brook at the beginning of the new millennium. It is a popular walking course running through urban skyscrapers.

September Upo Wetland Upo Wetland has been registered with the International Ramsar Agreement and designated as wetland protection area. The wetland began to form along with the Korean Peninsula itself 140 million years ago. Location: Gyeongsangbuk-do province.

Seohae Grand Bridge Seohae, or the West Coast, Grand Bridge is a 7,310-meter long cable-stayed bridge and is one of the longest in Korea. It connects Gyeonggi-do with Chungcheongnam-do province. It passes through a tiny island that houses dining facilities and commands a nice vista of the West Sea.


October Mt. Mudeung Mt. Mudeung, which is located in the southwestern province of Jeollanam-do, is loved for its gentle slopes and distinctly changing colors each season. Clusters of rocks of fabulous shapes that are found here and there were an object of worship by many people seeking peace of mind in old days.

Dinosaur Ridge of Mt. Seorak Dinosaur Ridge or Gongnyong Neungseon is a trekking course of breathtaking beauty of Mt. Seorak National Park, Gangwon-do province. It got its name from the sharp series of peaks forming a curve that resembles the back of a dinosaur.

November Dokdo Island Dokdo refers to two volcanic islands located in Korea’s East Sea. The country’s easternmost island has rich fisheries resources in the nearby areas.

Suncheon Bay Ecological Park Suncheon Bay Ecological Park in Jeollanam-do province is a major wintering place for rare migrating birds. The ecosystem around the river mouth adjacent to South Sea coast has long been preserved in its original form.

December Winter at Sokcho Beach Sokcho Beach, one of the nation’s largest summer resorts, attracts tourists all year round with its changing seasonal colors and pristine waters of the East Sea. Location: Gangwon-do province.

Sunset at Busan Beach Busan, the biggest port in Korea, has many scenic spots along its coastline. It is a homeport of many international passenger lines and cargo carriers. The beach often becomes the venue for international film festivals and other cultural and sport events. Time-honored fish markets are still thriving. Location: Gyeongsangnam-do province.
