I have acquired an enthusiasm for design and developed an affinity for the act of making. As a craftsman, I have extensive experience in a range of crafts from pencil and paper, to carpentry and metalwork. Through process, I become an extension of my work, and ultimately create architecture that is a reflection of craft by the human hand. It is the display of making that moves people; the understanding that architecture is not merely for humanity but by humanity. I endeavor to create architecture that is based entirely on details. During the last five years of my architectural education I have experienced the value of making, constructing, and speculating in assemblies. I believe that the aesthetics and details of the architecture affects the quality of life of the people who experience them on a daily basis.

The following is a documentation on the iterative and reiterative study of metal and the possibilities that emerge through manipulation. The study seeks to develop an understanding of how to work with metal using nonconventional methods. We are manually folding sheet metal and defining the conditions and efficiencies that are produced.

Anthropological Container: Moving beyond program, form, or site, this project aims toward the sole expression of making. The design is driven by its construction and the association of its components. Using the tectonic character of a “finger, the project began by determining the hierarchy of organization of its construction.

(3) the stone panels are hinged and hung into the primary structure and roof system. (4) to address weather condition (wind & rain), screen were added to the to the stone system. These provide protection from the outside without restricting visual access from the interior. (5) Finally, wood panels were added to provide for sitting in the exterior.

Seeking Form

Vessel

form

A series of sketches start to seek the sociological form of a temple. Thought multiple iterations, the result start to yield the idea of a “Vessel”. Plus the idea of “Verticality” through tectonics + reflections + form.

The Vessel contains two spaces: the lower floor is a place for the connection of water, it provides views only into Lake Alice and an internal fountain. The upper floor is about the connection of the Sun. Therefore it is flooded with skylights and light shafts that continue down into the lower floor. Both spaces are connected by a physical element (stair) and an ethereal element (light shaft).

Sustainability Strategies Located in the vast open landscape of the everglades; a park for cyclist to engage in a 15 miles loop across the swamp terrain. A gatehouse is introduce at the starting point. The isolation of the infrastructure from the grid system, require the gatehouse to be self sufficient. Multiple environmental system are applied to the infrastructure. The collection of water was further specs.

While the components of cultural and historical identity exist, the community of West Chelsea lacks a developed visual architectural expression. Gentrification speculates about this visual absence, with the High Line being the most prominent rendition. The abandoned elevated railroad infrastructure that was used historically as a form of transportation of goods within the meat packing districts. Now, it has evolved into a living thread of botanical gardens in West Chelsea. By capturing the essence of the High Line, a visual language can be abstracted and translated into architectural tectonics + a strategy for the organization of space.

P e r f o r m a n c e To w e r : partner: Felipe Hernandez Historically a run down industrial sector of the island of New York. Now; Actors, Directors and Dancers have begun to make their home in the left off post industrial buildings. As the community grows, a need to create urban notes; which are tailor

to a film orientated community; raises. The Performance Tower seek to response to this social hunger for spaces with the use of Canal Park as a vanish point for film displays and multiple performances spaces inside for the industry of films.

canal park

Canal Park is surrounded by high velocity vehicles. Making it an undesirable location to visit or gather. Taking this parameter into notion, a need to slow down the movement of the site is required before anything. The incision of a white facade where films can be projected will start creating a focus point to pause or slow down. Plus, it will be orientated toward Canal Park. Introducing, a function to the park.
