I have acquired an enthusiasm for design and developed an affinity for the act of making. As a craftsman, I have extensive experience in a range of crafts from pencil and paper, to carpentry and metalwork. Through process, I become an extension of my work, and ultimately create architecture that is a reflection of craft by the human hand. It is the display of making that moves people; the understanding that architecture is not merely for humanity but by humanity. I endeavor to create architecture that is based entirely on details. During the last five years of my architectural education I have experienced the value of making, constructing, and speculating in assemblies. I believe that the aesthetics and details of the architecture affects the quality of life of the people who experience them on a daily basis.

C h a p e l : V e r t i c a l V e s s e l design eight On the surface of Lake Alice, a vertical wooden vessel can be found. The Pagan Chapel is conceal for the necessity of the God of the Sea (Poseidon) and the God of the Sun (Apollo) to dialog. The result is a Vessel that through form and tectonic expression connects and creates a transition between the water and the sky.

Seeking Form

form

A series of sketches start to seek the sociological form of a temple. Thought multiple iterations, the result start to yield the idea of a “Vessel”. Plus the idea of “Verticality” through tectonics + reflections + form.

The Vessel contains two spaces: the lower floor is a place for the connection of water, it provides views only into Lake Alice and an internal fountain. The upper floor is about the connection of the Sun. Therefore it is flooded with skylights and light shafts that continue down into the lower floor. Both spaces are connected by a physical element (stair) and an ethereal element (light shaft).

Axonometric Assembly The construction of the Chapel seeks the expression of verticality. Wrapping the vessel with the use of vertical metal structure and vertical wood panels. The exterior and interior image of the chapel is a connection from the water to the sky.

Wall: Versatile Unit design eight

Moving beyond program, form, or site, this project aims toward the purpose of making a modular unit. The starting point was to find a component that can associated with it else. Using techniques such as mirror, repetition, and rotation. As a final result, the single unit disappears within the rest and establish new patterns.

weaving / overlap + joint

duplication + mirror / rotation The idiosyncratic of the single unit is remove by the duplication of the unit. New patterns come to emerge. Three result were found by repeating the unit four times, establishing a new whole. Finally, by interlocking the new whole, a weaving pattern arises.

P e l i c u l a : d i r e c t o r s & a c t o r s r e s i d e n c e design seven partner: Felipe Hernandez The neighborhood of Tribeca, Manhattan, has become occupied by a new community. Once a run down sector of post-industrial buildings in New York. Tribeca is now the home of many actors, directors, and dancers. With the growth of the of community. Historically a run down industrial sector of the island of New York. Now; Actors, Directors and Dancers have begun to make

their home in the left off post industrial buildings. As the community grows, a need to create urban notes; which are tailor to a film orientated community; raises. Pelicula, seek to response to this social hunger for space. With the help of Canal Park as a vanish point and housing multiple spaces for the industry of films.

Canal Park is surround and trap by high velocity vehicles. Making it an undesirable location to visit or gather. Taking this parameter into notion, a need to slow down the movement of the site is required before anything. The incision of a white facade where films can be projected will start creating a focus point to pause or slow down. Plus, it will be orientated toward Canal Park. Introducing, a function to the park.

Inside Pelicula, two in-house theaters can be rented out to the community. The lower theater, is capable of projecting and showcasing digital films. While the upper theater is suited for performance spaces. Using Manhattan as a background, and a light shaft as a natural spot light. Addition pots of spaces will be tide in with a control public circulation system. It will begin at canal park with a bridged. From there a multiple of slow and medium speed ramps and stair will capitalizes in the notion of transition of spaces or scenes. Moving beyond program, form, or site, this project aims toward the sole expression of making. The design is driven by its construction and the association of its components. Using the tectonic character of a “finger, the project began by determining the hierarchy of organization of its construction.

(3) the stone panels are hinged and hung into the primary structure and roof system. (4) to address weather condition (wind & rain), screen were added to the to the stone system. These provide protection from the outside without restricting visual access from the interior. (5) Finally, wood panels were added to provide for sitting in the exterior.

Charleston Fashion Institute and Performance Runway will become the manifestation of memory through the vehicle and method of construction of fabrics. The program is going to be thread together by circulatory movements. The wrinkles in clothes are going to represent the different hard and soft edges in the facade and it slips in and out by its users. Finally the selection of materials and mechanics will try to accommodate the expansion and contraction of programs, just like a piece of clothing with a range of possible fits.

charleston section diagrams Charleston at the section scope, can be broken down into two major edge condition. In one hand, the commercial tries to absorb the user by imposing it architecture into the public round. Theater, Churches and commercial venues spill into the sidewalks of charleston with overhangs, stairs and columns. This strategy begins to absorb the public. In the other hand,

24

the residential tries to separate it self to the public. Vegetation, fences and level shifts are the architectural tools to create these divisions. These studies create a typology of ways how to engage or ignore the public, while keeping a respectful scale to the city of charleston.

55th + 8th - West Chelsea + Highline While the components of cultural and historical identity exist, the community of West Chelsea lacks a developed visual architectural expression. Gentrification speculates about this visual absence, with the High Line being the most prominent rendition. The abandoned elevated railroad infrastructure that was used historically as a form of transportation of goods within the meat packing districts. Now, it has evolved into a living thread of botanical gardens in West Chelsea. By capturing the essence of the High Line, a visual language can be abstracted and translated into architectural tectonics + a strategy for the organization of space.
